L.L. ⁄ You like to work on your classics yourself. What’s your greatest
achievement as a mechanic so far?
P.K. ⁄ I completely took my Jaguar SS 100, the one I drove at the
last arlberg Classic, apart, and I don’t mean against a rock, I
mean in my garage. I had specialists take care of the engine, the
transmission etc. but then I put the car back together myself. That
was really great. and I’ll never do something like this again because
it was also hell!
L.L. ⁄ How many classic cars do you possess at present? and which
one are you going to bring to this year’s arlberg Classic Carl Rally
in Lech?
P.K. ⁄ I hope it’s ok for you if I just tell you: I have enough to be sure
that there’s always one that actually works! I’d like to come with my
aC ace Bristol. It’s open, small, fast, compact, ideal for the wonderful
mountains.
L.L. ⁄ What is it that makes this event a highlight for classic car
aficionados?
P.K. ⁄ It’s great that the starting point is always Lech and that the
number of cars is not too big, that the routes are well chosen and
not too long. The wonderful surroundings and of course the perfect
organization. That and the great evening programme facilitate
a lot of contact between all the participants and they permit fuelheavy
conversations and beautiful moments.
L.L. ⁄ What is it that counts for you – simply the fun of participating
or a good result?
P.K. ⁄ I used to strive for a good result. Back then I was driving
with my good friend Heimo Reschreiter as a co-pilot. We trained
and wanted and did reach the top. Now I only take the mountain
race seriously. and in Lech I drive with my wife. Relaxed, enjoyable,
ideal for preserving domestic bliss.
