1964
wurde die TFA von Heinz Dostmann als „Technische Fabrik für Armaturen” in
GRÜNDUNG einer Kreuzwertheimer Hinterhof-Waschküche gegründet.
Damals siedelten sich in der Region zahlreiche junge glasverarbeitende Unternehmen an, angezogen
vom Glaswerk Wertheim, das 1950 von Thüringer Glasfachleuten errichtet worden war.
Das allererste TFA-Produkt war ein Maxima-Minima-Thermometer, das Heinz Dostmann patentieren
ließ. In den Folgejahren wurde die Produktpalette ständig erweitert. Einfache Thermometer kamen
dazu, Barometer, Hygrometer und später elektronische Wetterinstrumente.
Wir haben mit unseren eigenen, innovativen Ideen Trends gesetzt und den Markt gestaltet. Viele TFA-
Produkte sind echte Klassiker geworden und werden heute noch nahezu unverändert produziert.
1964 foundation
In 1964, Heinz Dostmann founded the "Technische Fabrik für Armaturen” (Technical Plant for Controls and Instruments),
abbreviated as TFA, out of a backyard laundry room in Kreuzwertheim. During this period, the region saw an influx of
young glass-processing companies attracted to Glaswerk Wertheim, which had been founded by Thuringian glass work
specialists in 1950.
The very first TFA product was a maximum-minimum thermometer which was patented by Heinz Dostmann. In the
following years, the TFA product portfolio expanded at a constant rate, including simple thermometers as well as barometers,
hygrometers and later electronic weather instruments. We set the trends and shaped the market with our own innovative ideas.
Many TFA products have gone on to become genuine classics and continue to be produced today in a virtually unchanged format.

Inspiriert vom Six-Thermometer (nach James Six 1782), beginnt Heinz Dostmann 1964 mit
der Produktion von Maxima-Minima-Thermometern. Einfache Haushalts- und Werbethermometer
ergänzen in den 60er Jahren das Sortiment. 1970 folgen dann Barometer,
Hygrometer und Kompasse.
Inspired by the Six thermometer invented by James Six in 1782, Heinz Dostmann began the production of
maximum-minimum thermometers in 1964.
In the 1960s, simple household and commercial thermometers were added to the product portfolio, which
was further expanded in the 1970s to include barometers, hygrometers and compasses.

Mit zahlreichen Patenten und Produktideen qualifiziert sich die TFA als Wetterspezialist.
1977 wird ein Patent für die besonders präzisen Haar-Synthetik-Hygrometer angemeldet.
1982 launcht die TFA das Galileo-Galilei-Thermometer; die Glasröhre mit den farbigen
Kugeln wird in den 80er und 90er Jahren zum Kultobjekt.
With its multiple patents and product ideas, TFA qualified as a weather specialist. In 1977, a patent was
registered for a high-precision synthetic hair hygrometer. In 1982, TFA launched the Galileo Galilei thermometer
– this glass cylinder with its coloured bubbles would become a cult object in the 1980s and 1990s.
1985
Mitte der 80er Jahre kommen die ersten elektronischen Wetterinstrumente auf den
Markt und überzeugen durch Genauigkeit und die einfach ablesbare Digitalanzeige.
TFA wagt den Schritt und beginnt mit der Produktion von digitalen Thermometern am
Standort Reicholzheim.
In the mid-1980s, the first electronic weather instruments were introduced to the market and impressed with
their precision and easy-to-read digital display. TFA took the bold step and began production of digital thermometers
at the site in Reicholzheim.
1995
Innovative Funkthermometer mit kabelloser Übertragung der Temperatur werden zum
Bestseller. Intelligente Vorhersagesysteme machen die Wetterprognose immer besser.
Das erste digitale Fensterthermometer wird konzipiert und überzeugt am Markt.
TFA’s innovative radio controlled thermometers with wireless transmission of temperature readings have
become bestsellers. Intelligent forecasting systems further improve the accuracy of weather forecasts.
The first digital window thermometers were designed and well received on the market.

2007 entwickelt TFA die WETTERdirekt-Technologie:
Profi-Vorhersagen werden per Funk- und Satellitentechnik mehrmals täglich direkt auf die
Station gesendet. 2012 werden die Stationen noch durch amtliche Unwetterwarnungen
ergänzt.
TFA developed WETTERdirekt technology in 2007 (only for Germany):
Professional forecasts are transmitted directly to the weather station multiple times a day using radio and
satellite technology. In 2012, these stations were further developed to incorporate official weather warnings.
