Pat Garrahan (Patrick)
As you probably recently heard, Skip and
Leigh Ann Severance walked into our
sponsors showroom, Ed Dena’s Auto Center
in Dinuba, and made a reservation for a
2014 C7 Corvette. Congratulations to both
of them! I had been thinking of doing one
of my monthly messages on the overall
collection of Corvettes within our CVC
family and since Skip and Leigh Ann are
getting rid of their 1998 and buying a new
one, it is now time to visit this topic before
my research becomes outdated.
According to unofficial numbers, CVC has a
total of 48 Corvettes amongst its 78
members. Keep in mind most members are
considered couples and have just one car.
The oldest car in the group is a Cascade
Green 1957 owned by Patrick and Patricia
Garrahan and the newest Corvette is a 2012
belonging to Mike and Diane Hayes. The
Garrahan’s have owned their Corvette the
longest as they purchased it from the
original owner way back in 1960. Needless
to say this car also has the most miles on it
than any car in the club with the odometer
creeping up on 800,000
All six generations of Corvettes are
represented including 2 C1’s (1953-1962), 4
C2’s (1963-1967), 4 C3’s (1968-1982), 5
C4’s (1984-1996), 18 C5’s (1997-2004) and
15 C6’s (2005-2013). What model year
does CVC have the most of? That would be
2007 and we have five of those in the club.
Six couples own at least two Corvettes and
Keith and Debbie Garrison lay claim to the
largest collection with three, including a
1958, a 1981 and a 1998.
Some people say there is not much
difference between average numbers and
median numbers. While that might be true
in some cases, that is not the story with
CVC. Average age is of course taking all
cars and adding them up and dividing by 48.
Median is the point where 24 cars are above
a certain number and 24 cars are below that
number. The average age or model year of a
Corvette in CVC is 1995, but the median
age or model year is 2001. In this case the
median number is more accurate simply
because 33 of our 48 cars (68%) are from
1997 to 2012.
If you combine last month’s article about the
age of the members, now you know the
typical CVC member is 65 years old, drives
a 2001 Corvette and is very likely retired.
At the root of every gray hair, there is a dead brain cell.
Someone had to remind me, so I'm reminding you, too. Don't laugh.... It is all true!
Perks of reaching 50 or being over 60 and heading towards 70 or beyond!
1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
2. In a hostage situation, you are likely to be released first.
3. No one expects you to run -- anywhere.
4. People call at 9 PM (or 9 AM) and ask, 'Did I wake you?'
5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
6. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
7. Things you buy now will never wear out.
8. You can eat supper at 4 PM.
9.You can live without sex but not your glasses.
10. You get into heated arguments about pension plans.
11. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
12. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the room.
13. You sing along with elevator music.
14. Your eyes won't get much worse.
15. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.
16. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service.
17. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can't remember them either.
18. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to a manageable size.
19. You can't remember who sent you this list.
And you notice these are all in big print for your convenience.
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING:
Never, NEVER, NEVER , take a sleeping pill, and a laxative on the same night!
PLEASE REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR BADGES TO ALL MEETINGS, CLUB
EVENTS AND RUNS. SUPPORT YOUR CLUB RAFFLE AND BRING A RAFFLE
After much prodding and schmoozing, I was
able to gather information from most of you –
and I thank you for shating.
1. Rumor has it that the Comers and the
Severances are taking a cruise to the
Panama Canal at the end of this month.
The Panama Canal is a place I have
always wanted tto see, so be sure and fill
me in when you come home!
2. It seems that Ed Kroecker has been
playing in the water in his backyard!
While cleaning his Koi pond, he felt a
little dizzy and accidentally fell in the
pool. Joycesays he has recovered and is
planning tto continue work in his back
yard.
3. Debbie Garrison tells me that Keith has
been under the weather. It seems he has
had a bout with the gout. (No pun
intended). He visited with the podiatrist
and learned tthat his uric levels were
double what they are supposed to be.
The doctor made a change in his diet and
he is doing much better…Keith decided
to clean his rain gutters and twisted his
knee in the process and is now walking
with a cane. So much for those fun
golden years.
4. Here is an interesting little tidbit from
Chuck and Sharon Hall. They went
dancing at the Silver Dollar last week
and “danced into” Paula and Freddie
Fam. The Halls had a very interesting
conversation with the Fams and learned
that when they left Egypt. On Saturday,
3/23, the two couples will meet at
APCAL Winery in Madera for more
dancin g to a local bank “Poor MMan’s
Poison”.
5. On Bebruary 23, Gary and I returned
from 10 days of vqacation to the
Western Caribbean where we visited the
island of Roatan, Belize, and Cozamel.
We had a wonderful ttrip that included
lots of rest!! The very best part of the
trip was when we swam with the
dolphins and enjoyed the manatees. We
traveled with Gary’s brother, Lee, and
his sister-in-law, Kris. They left
Minnesotta where it was 20 degrees
below; I have a feeling it was a bit of a
shock to go back into that weather after
being in 80 degree weather!
Thanks for all you informations – I look forward
to bringing you all the lastest news at the April
meeting.
Chukchansi Run
A total of 17 Corvettes and 33 energetic gamblers met at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday March 10 to
cruise to Coarsegold to the Chukchansi Casino. Even though we had a time change to daylight
saving time everyone was on time. This run had all the necessary elements for a good run;
beautiful scenery, wonderful food, entertainment, and good friends sharing a Sunday afternoon. I
hope some of you were winners or at least had a good time trying. I myself didn’t win enough
money to go on the Alaskan cruise. Oh well, we can’t have everything. Thank you all for
attending the run. A special thanks to Dick and Ruthie for being sweep and helping us with the
run.
See you at the next run,
