Odessa Christiana modeling her own design<br />
Odessa Christiana is an unconventional fashion designer driven<br />
by her artistic nature. As a child she would amuse herself by harvesting<br />
scraps of fabric from her Mother's sewing room floor with which she created<br />
glamorous attire for her dolls. Years later Odessa attended art college<br />
where she gained the fundamentals of fashion design.<br />
Unsatisfied with building someone else's empire the aspiring designer knew<br />
she must embrace her unique personality and produce innovative, exclusive<br />
garments. Allowing her passion for art and color to take over she began silk<br />
painting and soon turned her artwork into clothing. Couture Funk was born!<br />
This has become an ongoing, ever-changing line reflecting Odessa's own<br />
edgy style, offering one of a kind and custom pieces to fashionable clientele<br />
around the world.<br />

Odessa spent the greater part of her life in the Pacific Northwest. Despite<br />
the pristine beauty of the area and the comfort of family and friends Odessa<br />
knew it was time to spread her wings and move elsewhere. Drawn to the<br />
history and vibrancy of Palm Springs during several vacations, Odessa<br />
found her new home. Though she misses her Washington people and<br />
tromps through the mossy forests, never has she regretted her move.<br />
"I have had the good fortune of meeting the people I was supposed to meet<br />
here and creating incredible new friendships that will last a lifetime."<br />
One of these friendships blossomed when Lani Garfield, local event<br />
photographer, asked Odessa to style a photo shoot for her last summer.<br />
The Orange Martini Project-Modernism Today was set into motion and<br />
Odessa became Lani's stylist for the entire project.<br />

"Helping Lani to bring her vision to reality was such an amazing adventure. I<br />
am mesmerized by the power of community we have here in Palm Springs."<br />
Within days of moving to the desert, Odessa met Daryn Hinton, a<br />
powerhouse of inspiration and truly one of the most fascinating women one<br />
could ever meet. Daryn soon introduced Odessa to Childhelp, a charity<br />
which addresses child abuse and runs a residential treatment facility in<br />
Beaumont CA called the Childhelp Merv Griffin Village. http://www.childhelp.<br />

Odessa was immediately inspired to help this cause the best way she knew<br />
how...through art! Currently, she travels to the Village monthly, teaching silk<br />
painting to the children. A new line of clothing, "Childhelp Couture", is now in<br />
production where Odessa creates one of a kind garments from the childrens<br />
artwork. Profits from sales go to the Village. There are many ways you can<br />

Odessa is also an active board member of the Indian Wells Childhelp<br />
Chapter. She recently facilitated the silent auction for the annual Celebrity<br />
Golf Invitational fundraiser. The children were so proud to hear that a piece<br />
of Childhelp Couture sold for $500.00!<br />
"I am absolutely drawn in by these children. Their creativity is magical.<br />
They are kind little souls with smiles that melt your heart. They deserve a<br />
Odessa Christiana and models in an exclusive event at the Daniel<br />

Somewhere between the design, styling and charity work Odessa found<br />
time to acquire her real estate license. Recognizing the value of our<br />
architecturally significant homes, she enjoys helping a few select clients<br />
achieve their dream of owning a piece of Palm Springs history.<br />
When Odessa is not making a mess of her studio, styling a photo shoot<br />
or perusing homes you will find her hiking the glorious mountain trails,<br />
energizing her spirit at Power Yoga Palm Springs or singing and dancing<br />
the night away at Streetbar.<br />

For those discerning diners on the hunt for delicious Italian fare,<br />
Mookie’s Pizza, Sandwiches and More is now open in the North end of<br />
Palm Springs. Mookie’s offers great food at reasonable prices, and will<br />
be open late night for those who like to have that “midnight snack” on<br />
weekends. Owners Stafford Fredericks and his partner, Chef Giuseppi<br />
Panetta, decided to name the restaurant after their beloved Yorkshire<br />
terrier.<br />
Chef Panetta has created recipes that are a blend of traditional familystyle<br />
meals, incorporating his unique interpretation of Southern Italian<br />
classics. Having trained in Italy, he last worked as Executive Chef at<br />
the restaurant Say Cheese in L.A.’s Silver Lake neighborhood. Panetta’s<br />
Calabrian specialties include pizza, calzones, and ravioli.<br />
Customers rave about the food, many claiming that Panetta’s signature<br />
calzones are the best they’ve ever had. Chef Guiseppi has added Tina's<br />
Calzone to the menu, so named after a customer with a special request.<br />
Mookie’s is located at 2100 N. Palm Canyon Drive, Suite B-104 in Palm<br />
Springs (next to Toucans). The restaurant is open from 11am to 10pm<br />
(closed Mondays). For the late night crowd, Mookie’s is open until 3<br />
am on Friday and Saturday nights, and until midnight on Sundays and<br />
Thursdays. Catering is also available for groups up to 75 persons.<br />

On a very rare occasion, a business comes into<br />

it better. Trio Restaurant is such a business. It<br />
is hard to remember a time when Trio was not<br />
one of the desert’s favorite “watering holes” and<br />

Palm Springs- Wang’s in the Desert had the Grand<br />
Opening of its new Wang’s After 10 in the Buddha<br />
Lounge last Saturday, featuring special guest DJs, a<br />
new late night small plate menu and an upbeat lounge<br />
scene.<br />
The continuing Saturday event is 10PM to close. There is no cover and<br />
reservations are not needed. Wang’s in the Desert is located at 424 S.<br />
Indian Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs.<br />
Wang’s After 10 features upbeat lounge selections by guest DJs. Guests<br />
can dance to the latest sounds or relax in the lush tropical surroundings<br />
of the Buddha Lounge, with its stone outdoor fireplace and giant red<br />
Buddha statue. For those looking for a late night bite there will also be<br />
a special Late Night Menu featuring Asian Fusion small plates.<br />

Hello all you FABULOUS people out there.<br />
I trust you are all doing well. What beautiful weather we are having,<br />
especially up here on the mountain. Spring has sprung and all my<br />
daffodils are blooming and the tulips are coming up, in fact Kevin and I<br />
just planted 60 more lily bulbs that will come up and bloom this summer.<br />
We planted 60 last year so there are well over a hundred lilies out there,<br />
so now comes the wait to see if they actually come up……if so it will be a<br />
beautiful, fragrant lily garden.<br />
Don’t forget that time is running down on the campaign to get the one and<br />
only Bella da Ball a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. No one is<br />
more deserving than my dear friend Bella. She does so so much for the<br />
community of Palm Springs and she deserves this honor, just visit www.<br />

Speaking of Spring it makes me think about all that is wonderful around<br />
us and gives us all a time to reflect. When we see something familiar<br />
like an old chair or a tree as if for the first time and we feel an incredible<br />
beauty, we know that somehow our inner perception has changed and<br />
we have been allowed a peek at the truth.<br />
If only we could always see clearly. Most of the time our vision is impaired.<br />
We miss the magic and everything looks dull. Usually what clouds our<br />
seeing is judgment. Before we ever look we’ve made a judgment. It covers<br />
our eyes and allows us to see only what it wants us to see.<br />
Prayer and meditation help clear away the judgments that cover our<br />
eyes. So do quite moments of reflection, spiritual reading, journal work,<br />
walks in nature. Our inner perception changes and the outer world looks<br />
more friendly, more beautiful Truth reappears and we love what we see,<br />
including ourselves.<br />

I was asked by my wonderful friend Rev.Jerry Troyer if I would MC a launch<br />
party for his new book “Coming Out to Ourselves” held at the LGBT Center.<br />
It was this event that I met the beautiful, fun and sweet women by the name<br />
of Marsha Starr. We hit it off the moment we met ( I loved everything about<br />
her) especially her kindness and personality. So it’s no wonder we became such fast friends.<br />
It was Marsha’s Dad who brought his family to San Diego from Chicago,<br />
in those days her Dad Bill Starr played baseball for the San Diego Padres<br />
(when it was apart of the Pacific Coast League). Loving the climate and<br />
then small town atmosphere, they decide to stay. Bill Starr eventually<br />
became the Padres owner in the 50’s.<br />
Growing up and loving her home town helped introduced her to a Naval<br />
Officer stationed right here in San Diego which she married after completing<br />
her final bit of education at SDSU as a psychology major. After raising her<br />
family, a daughter and two sons, Marsha wanted something fun to do. As<br />
a lark she signed up for her first hypnosis class and for something that she<br />
thought would just be a hoot to try, led her to taking numerous courses<br />
in Comedy Stage Hypnosis at the Marc Savard International School of<br />
Hypnosis. Marc Savard is a Planet Hollywood headliner in Las Vegas, were<br />
he has performed nightly for the past 20 years.<br />
Marsha will tell you as invaluable as the technical training is, absolutely<br />
nothing replaces the actual getting on stage and doing it. As a Comedy<br />
Hypnosis now for more years than she can count and an average 120<br />
shows a year, there are no two shows alike. Even if she uses the identical<br />
material it’s the performers interpretation of each show that makes it unique,<br />
thought the one commonality is that all the shows are HILARIOUS!<br />
Marsha Star or better known as “The Hypno Diva” has been enthralling and<br />
mesmerizing audiences of all ages all over California to as far as New York<br />
City where she was featured on BROADWAY. She has been introduced to<br />
viewers on FOX5, and has also performed at THE COMDEY STORE as well.<br />
As one of the only 5 full time professional female comedy hypnotist in the<br />
world, Marsha magically captivates and regales her audiences as she<br />
escorts the volunteer performers into believing they are famous celebrities,<br />
trailer park princess, opera singers, someone who has just won the lottery,<br />
that their favorite body part has been stolen, or are aliens visiting earth who<br />
only speaks Martian, and the list goes on and on.<br />
The Hypno Diva brings her expertise to the stage in a show that defined<br />
as a fast-paced, action-packed roller coaster ride of laugh a minute hilarity.<br />
Marsha ignites a frenzy of hypnotic comedy mayhem as the performers<br />

Besides performing for paid audiences she has been a huge supporter<br />
of giving back to countless charity organizations with her show. A huge<br />
believer in giving back to those who need help, it’s not a surprising to learn<br />
Marsha gladly has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars with her stage<br />
shows, the list is to long to try to name everyone of them. The exciting<br />
news is Marsha along with her son Josha Blue who is also a comedy<br />
hypnotist from Hawaii will be performing together as the only mother and<br />
son comedy hypnotists in the world,which makes them unique. This show<br />
will help raise money for the Imperial Court and the San Diego LGBT<br />
Center, on August 4, 2013 starting at 6 pm sharp. Hosted by Empress<br />

Late March, 1996. Silver Lake, CA. My Mobility Instructor, Diane, and I<br />
have just returned from a lesson on proper cane technique. We walk<br />
through the garage and through the outside door. I stand at the landing<br />
and poise my cane for climbing down 50 steps.<br />
I place my left hand on the railing and turn my head to the left and<br />
downward. I begin to visualize the terraces of gardening I planted over the<br />
years. All the huge Agabes I had transplanted and the beautiful colorful<br />
succulents that studded vacant patches. I also visualized the lavender<br />
Bougainville I had hoisted on a trellis and all the scratches on my arms and<br />
legs to prove it.<br />
“Michael? Are you ok?” Diane asks.<br />
“Oh, sorry, just visualizing the garden down to our left. It brought me great<br />
pleasure cultivating the terraces and working with the earth. I guess I miss<br />
that.”<br />
“I’m confident you’ll find a way back there again someday,” she says<br />
patting my shoulder.<br />
