Jackie Collins has been called a “raunchy moralist” by the late director Louis Malle and dubbed
“Hollywood’s own Marcel Proust” by Vanity Fair magazine. With more than 500 million copies of her
books sold in more than 40 countries, Jackie Collins is one of the world’s top-selling novelists. She is
known for giving her readers an unrivaled insider’s knowledge of Hollywood and the glamorous lives
and loves of the rich, famous, and infamous!
Collins started writing as a teenager, making up steamy stories her schoolmates paid to devour. Her first
book, The World is Full of Married Men, became a sensational bestseller because of its open sexuality
and the way it dealt honestly with the double standard. After that came The Stud, Sinners, The Love
Killers, The World is Full of Divorced Women, The Bitch, Lovers And Gamblers, Chances, and then the
international sensation, Hollywood Wives — a #1 New York Times bestseller, which was made into one
of ABC’s highest-rated miniseries starring Anthony Hopkins and Candice Bergen.
In her own words, Collins now lives her life "like a cool bachelor.” The younger sister of famed actress
Joan Collins, she now resides in Beverly Hills in a mansion she designed herself. She adds: “I am
delighted to attend such a worthwhile event. AIDS is a blight on humanity and must be eradicated for
all time. Let's have fun, raise money, and dish!" Collins will also make a November appearance at Just
Fabulous in Palm Springs to sign copies of her latest blockbuster, The Power Trip.
Michael Childers is one of the entertainment industry's most renowned and highly respected portrait,
fashion and art photographers who began his career in the sixties and continues to influence the world
of art photography today. Instrumental in capturing the beauty and magnetism of such explosive young
stars as Mel Gibson, Demi Moore, richard Gere, John Travolta, Sissy Spacek and Michelle Pfeiffer, rock
Hudson, Natalie Wood, and Elton John. He brings a look and style to celebrity photography that is both
sensual and extremely stylish.
From his Melrose Avenue and Venice Beach studios, Childers photographed more than 200 magazine
covers including GQ, New York, TV Guide, Esquire, Los Angeles, Elle, Paris Match, Life, London Sunday
Times Magazine, and both English and Italian Vogue. He created more than 150 album covers and film
posters for major motion picture studios and worked as a special photographer on dozens of films
including Grease, Marathon Man, The Year of Living Dangerously, Coal Miner’s Daughter, Pennies from
Heaven, The Terminator, Urban Cowboy, Torch Song Trilogy, Endless Love, The Champ, and Oceans 12.
Childers lectures throughout the United States with two traveling exhibits: "Icons and Legends: the
Photography of Michael Childers” and “Author, Author/Michael Childers: A Photographic retrospective
of Authors, Playwrights & Screen Writers.”
Bruce Vilanch is a two-faced fella: Bearded, he is one of the most sought-after comedy writers in
Hollywood, winner of a bunch of Emmys, and noted as the “Hollywood Square” just to the left of
Whoopi Goldberg. Shaved, he spent two years as Edna Turnblad, Baltimore housewife and superstar, on
tour and on Broadway, in the smash musical adaptation of the John Waters film Hairspray.
Vilanch was seen on VH1’s popular fitness and nutrition reality-series, Celebrity Fit Club in the show’s
third season. Participating in a type of extreme-makeover-body-edition, the Celebrity Fit Clubbers went
through 100 days of Fit Club training.
In addition to Hairspray, he has appeared in such legendary epics as Ice Pirates, Mahogany, and The
Morning After. A frequent guest on talk shows, Vilanch won his Emmys for co-writing back-to-back
oscar shows with Billy Crystal. He was also nominated for an Emmy as a lyricist on Eartha Kitt’s goldselling
album Where Is My Man.
2010 marked Vilanch’s 21st year writing for the oscars, as well as a number of Tony, Grammy, and even
Emmy telecasts, although he never actually received an Emmy for writing an Emmy. His bizarre career
was documented in the film “Get Bruce!” released by Miramax and perpetually available on Buena Vista
Home Video. His one-man show, Almost Famous, tickled off-Broadway audiences around the country.
Evening Under the Stars, the 20th annual gala event to benefit AIDS Assistance Program (AAP), will
feature the music of the incomparable Cyndi Lauper. The ‘must see’ performance, along with cocktails,
dinner, and dancing, will take place Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 5:30 PM at the o’Donnell Golf Club in
Palm Springs.
Since its founding in 1991, AIDS Assistance Program remains dedicated to providing nutritional support
to improve the quality of the lives of those surviving HIV/AIDS. Initiated by a small group of concerned
citizens, led by the late Gloria Greene, Jeannette rockefeller, and Joanna Jakway, AAP provided meals
to members of the community with low incomes and suffering with HIV/AIDS. Since then, the AAP
client roster has grown from 20 to approximately 500 people. More than 8.5 million dollars has been
distributed to nearly 2,000 low-income clients in the Greater Palm Springs area.
