ennessee Wesleyan College recently had four
baseball players sign professional contracts to
continue their career. Three Bulldogs were drafted
with the fourth signing as a free agent. Michael
Carballo, a TWC center fielder, was drafted by
the Chicago White Sox; AAC Player of the Year
Jake Stone, a TWC first baseman, by the St. Louis
Cardinals; and Justin Sprenger, a TWC right-handed
pitcher, by the Texas Rangers. Corey Rhoney, a
TWC right-handed pitcher, signed with the Kansas
City Royals as a free agent.
All four players helped to lead TWC to another
successful season. Carballo saw limited action,
appearing in 19 games and batting .167 with two
doubles, a home run, and seven RBIs.
Stone led the Bulldogs with a .361 average to go along
with his 20 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, and
51 RBIs. He scored 43 runs and had a .445 on-base
percentage. Stone was also named to the NAIA All-
America second team.
Sprenger was one of Tennessee Wesleyan’s top arms
out of the bullpen as he made 22 appearances with only
one start. He posted a 1-2 record with a 3.41 ERA. In
31.2 innings of work, he struck out 36.
Rhoney compiled 91 innings posting a 9-0 record with
an ERA of 2.67. He had 77 strikeouts.
“We lost some great players, but I’m proud of these
four and look forward to seeing their baseball careers
continue at the next level,” said TWC Head Baseball
Coach Billy Berry.
This year Tennessee Wesleyan won both the regularseason
and tournament championships and was the No.
1 seed in the NAIA National Championship Opening
