Welcome to the new sailing collections for SS14. 

Highlights for this season include; 

DYNAMIC 

Modern sailboat racing has evolved into a high adrenaline, highly active performance sport. Technology 

at the top level does not end at yacht design; it has driven the need for complimentary equipment 

to help the boat go faster. Equipment such as sails, ropes, deck hardware and now clothing has 

emerged which is technologically advanced, ultra-lightweight and innovative. Musto has recognised 

this need and developed a DYNAMIC Collection to meet the demands of the fast-paced professional 

sailing circuit. Discover more on page 10. 

EVOLUTION 

This season, the Evolution collection has gone through a thorough revamp. These garments have 

evolved beyond sailing and are now regularly used outside this sport - being highly versatile and 

suitable for many active outdoor pursuits. So, whilst building upon the pillars that have given the 

collection strength to date; technical innovation, outdoor essential & multi-sport functionality, MUSTO 

design & product development has taken a selection of garments and given them an extra dimension 

by incorporating elements from the new DYNAMIC direction. These garments will cross-merchandise 

into either the Evolution or Technical collections and in doing so, open up a new commercial product 

offering of highly technical everyday garments for the sports-lifestyle market. 

The Evolution collection is also showcasing a collection of exciting new technically advanced luggage, 

from the beautifully engineered solar-enabled bags, constructed without a single piece of thread to 

the striking yet highly practical waterproof Evolution luggage.

PHOTOLUMINESCENCE 

Musto incorporated photoluminescent reflectors on the some foul weather gear for testing in the 

2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race. Resounding feedback was positive with a strong recommendation from 

the crew that they should be included on more offshore garments. Authentic feedback from rigorous 

testing is invaluable to Musto in order to develop products which are not only innovative but truly fit for 

purpose. So for 2014, in addition to already being on the HPX pro SMOCK, photoluminescent technology 

reflectors will also feature on HPX OCEAN AND MPX OFFSHORE and the HPX Drysuit as a result 

and will certainly be a reason for consumers to upgrade. 

SURF & COLOUR BURST 

You will notice a burst of colour into BR1 Inshore and a new ‘surf’ colour-way into many favourite 

Musto technical styles. For the BR1 Inshore, a popular cross-purpose jacket which is not solely used 

in the marine environment, this offers consumers more choice across traditional and modern colour 

palettes. The new ‘surf’ colour-way has been selected from colour trends and suits both genders. 

This is the much requested injection of colour that our staple styles need to attract existing and new 

customers to buy Musto Jackets. 

COLLABORATION WITH CLARKS 

Musto has partnered the longstanding (188 years) British premium footwear manufacturer Clarks, to 

create a new collection of sailing shoes. The brief was to combine innovation, engineering excellence 

& authenticity to create footwear that is fit for active lifestyles that Musto consumers lead, both on and 

off the boat. Find out more on page 92.

WHAT IS 

GORE-TEX® FABRIC? 

GORE-TEX fabrics are created by laminating a 

100% waterproof GORE-TEX membrane between 

high performance textiles which provide high levels 

of breathable and waterproof protection. 

The GORE-TEX ® membrane is the heart of all 

GORE-TEX ® products. It is completely windproof and 

waterproof, but permeable for water vapour. 

The result: Water from the outside will never 

penetrate, cold winds cannot pass through and 

perspiration can escape easily. This is why your 

body always stays dry and comfortable with 

GORE-TEX products.

The Musto BR2 fabric 

is an innovative 2-layer

are too small for water to 

penetrate. 

BR2 fabric is waterproof 

to a minimum of 

15,000mm hydrostatic 

head and has a 

breathability of at least 

4,000 MVP (moisture 

vapour transfer) even 

after fi ve test washes in 

the Musto lab. 

Musto technical

Arctec high loft fl eece is a breakthrough 

in durable, personal insulation - trusted 

by our test team to preserve core body 

temperature and maintain optimum 

working muscle temperature, even in 

bitter Southern Ocean conditions. 

Arctec fl eece is soft, lightweight, warm 

and comfortable. Tiny air pockets in 

the super high loft fabric structure 

retain body heat whilst the lightweight 

breathable properties ensure rapid 

moisture transfer - keeping you dry, 

comfortable and warm with minimum 

bulk. It is hyrophobic, holding less than 

1% of it’s weight in water, it remains 

much of its insulating powers - even 

when wet - and highly breathable, 

allowing perspiration to readily pass 

through the fabric. These qualities make 

it ideal for making clothing intended to 

be used during extreme physical activity.

was evident during the 2011/12 Volvo

An innovative technology to 

waterproof garments where 

the standard manufacturing 

techniques based on seam-sealed 

waterproof fabrics cannot be 

utilised. The OutDry ® patented 

lamination process is such that the waterproof 

and breathable membrane is directly bonded to 

the external layer of the garment, perfectly 

sealing any possible water entry point. 

The WINDSTOPPER ® membrane is 

an ultra thin protective layer which 

is laminated to a lightweight textile 

layer, making it totally windproof. 

It is made of the versatile polymer 

PTFE (polytetrafl uorethylene) which is expanded to 

create a microporous structure. These micropores 

are 900 times larger than water vapor molecules, 

allowing perspiration to pass through unhindered. 

This means that the WINDSTOPPER ® membrane 

adds total windproofness to any textile without 

perceivably restricting its initial 

breathability or weight.

COOLMAX ® fabric is the 

performance fabric that 

includes an effective fi ber-based moisture 

management system. The system can move 

perspiration away from the body, and through 

the fabric, where it can evaporate quickly, 

allowing the wearer the feel cooler and 

more comfortable. 

Hollow-core fi bre technology 

provides the most warmth 

at the lightest weight. 

The larger the surface area allows for faster 

evaporation by speeding moisture away from 

the skin to the surface of the fabric 

where it can evaporate more quickly. 

A novel weave structure and denier 

produces sun protective properties. 

Fabrics have also been treated with 

chemicals effective at absorbing 

UV light during the manufacturing 

process. Care should be taken when 

washing this garment, to ensure 

detergents used boost UPF 

rating and increase
