“Holi Ke Rang”- Kavi Goshti<br />

“Holi Ke Rang”, a poetic symposium <strong>of</strong> wit and humour, was impressively organized by the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Students Welfare in association with the Students Cultural Council, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Jammu</strong>, in connection with the Holi Festival.<br />

Sh. K.K. Shakir, a Veteran Poet & Prolific Writer, was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas Pr<strong>of</strong>.<br />

N.K. Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, presided over.<br />

In his presidential remarks Pr<strong>of</strong> Tripathi, said that Poetry is an imaginative awareness <strong>of</strong><br />

experience, expressed through memory, sound & rhythmic language choices so as to evoke an<br />

emotional response. He further congratulated the young poets for their creative presentations<br />

regarding Holi Festival as well as the issues and problems, prevalent in the society .He further said<br />

that Holi is a festival <strong>of</strong> love, brotherhood and co-existence and should be celebrated in its true<br />

spirit.<br />

The Scholars & Students who enthralled the audience with their poems included Manoj Heer,<br />

Sapna Narania, Bavita Kumari, Ritu Raj Sharma, Yash Brahmanu and Poonam Sharma.<br />

Sh. K.K. “Shakir”, Rakesh “Tript”, P.L. Parihar, Krishan Kumar and Vijay Atri, also recited their<br />

poems.<br />

Manoj Heer presented the poem entitled “SATRANGI PEENG” “Holi aie Paye Holi aie” and “SOCH”,<br />

Mann Karda Main Uddri Jan, Aisi Jagah Phi Pujji Jan”, Babita Kumari recited the poem “RANG” – “Oh<br />

Rang Doldaa Jaa Karda, aeh Khid-Khid Kardee Assa Di”, Sapna Narania in the poem “HOLI”<br />

described the holi festival as “Albeli ai Mastani ai, Holi Rangen di Rani aie”, Ritu Raj Sharma in his<br />

poem pointed towards the present scenario <strong>of</strong> our society where the minorities are unsafe “Ghatt<br />

Ginti Mehfooz Nayeen Jithen, Changi Koi News Nayeen Jithen”, Yash Brahmanu in his piece <strong>of</strong><br />

poetry reflected the mad race <strong>of</strong> the younger generation towards the western culture- “Loko<br />

fashion Dikkhiai Batoi Gaya”.<br />

K.K. Shakir regaled the listeners with his poem “Jo Keeta So Bharna Paunda, Phi Kaisa Pacchotaa<br />

Loko”. Sh. Krishan Kumars’ poem entitled “SITA AUR LAKSHMAN REKHA” was a clear message to<br />

the women folk that they have to cross the “LAKSHMAN REKHA”. If they want a change in the<br />

society, left an everlasting impact on one and all present. Sh. P.L. Parihar presented a satire- “Neele<br />

Peele Mor Saintri Nachde Sadko Sadka, Kul Tihadi Damde Soken, Hathen Phariae Radkan”, Sh.<br />

Rakesh Tript’s poem “MALHAR RANGEN DI” drenched everybody with the colours <strong>of</strong> holi – “Bura<br />

Nayen Manao Tus, Ajj Holi aie, Gale Kanney Mili Jaaoo, Dil Kholi aie” and Vijay Atri presented the<br />

poem “NAVJAAT SHISHUON PAR FILMON KA PRABHAV” depicting the impact <strong>of</strong> films on the newly<br />

born babies.<br />

Among others, Mr. Sunil Sharma, Nidhi Kaila, Secretary, Students Cultural Council, Anshu Bala, Joint<br />

Secretary, SCC, were present on this occasion. The programme was ably compeered by Divya<br />

Mahajan, Joint Secretary, Students Cultural Council.<br />

“OCTAVE-2013”<br />

A festival <strong>of</strong> Folk Dances from Eight North East States<br />

“OCTAVE-2013”, a colourful festival <strong>of</strong> Folk Dances from Eight North East States, unfolded<br />

with the verve & vitality at JU Campus .<br />

The festival was hosted by the Department <strong>of</strong> Students Welfare, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jammu</strong> in association<br />

with the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, and Border Security Force.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. M.P. Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jammu</strong>, presided over while Mrs. Lida Singh<br />

was the Special Guest <strong>of</strong> the function.<br />

Addressing the gathering Pr<strong>of</strong>. Ishar said that these folk artists deserve kudos for preserving and<br />

show casing the rich cultural heritage <strong>of</strong> India and we, the <strong>Jammu</strong>ites are lucky enough to have<br />

these performers in the city <strong>of</strong> Temples. These Artists have enlightened the younger generation<br />

about the Culture <strong>of</strong> lesser known North East States <strong>of</strong> India. He also eulogized the efforts <strong>of</strong> NZCC<br />

for bringing the artists to this part <strong>of</strong> the country.<br />

About one fifty artists from Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal<br />

Pradesh and Sikkim with flamboyant costumes and extensive traditional jewels, presented “Barat”,<br />

“Ka Shad Mastieh”, “Wangla”, “Thangta”, “Pung/Dhol Cholam”,” Solakia”, “Cheraw”, “Mungyanta”,<br />

“Juju Ja-ja” and “Ka-Kong Tokai”. These dances are performed to celebrate the arrival <strong>of</strong> Seasons,<br />

Festivals, Wedding, Birth <strong>of</strong> a Child and Community belief. The sounds <strong>of</strong> rhythmic instruments<br />

reverberated the Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium and each performance received accolades from<br />

the audience.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>. N.K. Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jammu</strong>, delivered the welcome address.<br />

Sharma, Head, Department <strong>of</strong> Zoology, Pr<strong>of</strong>. M.K.Dhar, Controller <strong>of</strong> Examination, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Neelu<br />

Rohmetra, Rector, Kathua Campus, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Dhian.S.Bhau, Director, Directorate <strong>of</strong> Sports and Physical<br />

Education, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Jasbir Singh, Provost Hostels (Boys) and Dr. Shailendra Singh Associate Dean (SW),<br />

Members Campus Cultural Committee, Faculty Members, Teachers, Scholars and Students, were<br />

also present.<br />
