Vice Chancellor’s Message I am very happy to learn that the students of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (DCIS) are taking the initiatives to bring out a placement brochure for the year 2011. I am sure this placement brochure will provide the necessary and essential interface between the Department and the Industries. The University of Hyderabad, a premier institution of post graduate teaching and research in the country, was established by an Act of Parliament on 2nd October, 1974 as a Central University, wholly financed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). UGC has identified a few Universities and granted them the status of Universities with Potential for Excellence. The objective of this initiative was to provide these select institutions with augmented inputs, including additional funds, to sustain and enhance quality of education and research. Based on the evaluation and recommendations of this committee, the UGC declared the University of Hyderabad a University with Potential for Excellence. Department of Computer and Information Sciences is amongst the leading academic departments on campus. Over the period of time, the department has earned the name not only in India but also at abroad. The team of young and dynamic faculty members are committed to provide high quality education and research in various branches of Computer Science and Information Technology. This department has always played a major role in the overall development of the University as well as introducing IT application in the University functioning. Our faculty has been providing quality service to many projects of National interest. I take this opportunity to invite you to our green and beautiful campus and offer my best wishes to the students of DCIS for their successful campus placement in the year.
