Welcome From the General Chair<br />
Since the first conference 90 years ago, ATCE has established itself as the<br />
foremost technical conference in oil and gas exploration and production. Over<br />
the years more than half a million senior executives, engineers, managers,<br />
and scientists have gathered to share technical knowledge, gain insights from<br />
industry experts, and network with colleagues from around the world.<br />
With activity levels within the industry at an all-time high, the need for a<br />
forum enabling the exchange <strong>of</strong> high quality technical information has never<br />
been more acute. ATCE represents the very best in technical know-how<br />
with more than 350 <strong>of</strong> the highest calibre peer-selected technical papers in<br />
the industry covering current applications and emerging technologies and<br />
practices within all phases <strong>of</strong> E&P. As with previous meetings, the technical<br />
programme <strong>of</strong> ATCE 2014 will embrace this tradition <strong>of</strong> excellence and<br />
draw on the expertise <strong>of</strong> leading international oil and gas pr<strong>of</strong>essionals. The<br />
conference will provide an unparalleled gathering for developing and sharing<br />
ideas supported by activities for students and young pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, training<br />
courses, and networking events.<br />
For only the second time in the event’s long and distinguished history, ATCE<br />
in 2014 will take place outside North America. I am delighted that Amsterdam<br />
will host the event at the RAI, a world-class convention centre located in<br />
the heart <strong>of</strong> the city. The venue will host the major exhibition that will take<br />
place concurrently with the conference showcasing the latest technologies,<br />
new product launches, and valuable industry services from more than 450<br />
exhibitors from around the world.<br />

The <strong>Society</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Petroleum</strong> <strong>Engineers</strong> is the largest individualmember<br />
organisation serving managers, engineers, scientists,<br />

Amsterdam’s RAI Centre is the largest conference centre in<br />
The Netherlands. The RAI is eight minutes from the city centre<br />
and 15 minutes from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The RAI has its<br />
own train and metro stations as well as a tram stop located outside.<br />
As demand for exhibition space at ATCE 2014 has been exceptionally<br />
high, we have opened two new exhibition halls and increased our<br />
exhibition capacity by 25%. Attendees will have plenty <strong>of</strong> free time<br />
