ITINERARY OVERVIEW<br />
Day 1: Depart Nelson, Christchurch <strong>to</strong> Singapore.<br />
Overnight at airport hotel whilst in transit.<br />
Day 2: Depart Singapore and arrive in Delhi. The capital<br />
of kingdoms and empires is now a sprawling metropolis with<br />
a fascinating blend of <strong>the</strong> past and <strong>the</strong> present. It is a perfect<br />
introduction <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> composite culture of an ancient land.<br />
Day 3: Delhi. We will cover both Old and New Delhi, taking in<br />
<strong>the</strong> narrow streets and sites by cycle rickshaw. Visit Rajghat, <strong>the</strong><br />
memorial <strong>to</strong> Mahatma Gandhi, Qutab Minar and Jama Masjid.<br />
Day 4: Delhi - Udaipur. “Most romantic city of Rajasthan”.<br />
This is <strong>the</strong> city where most Indian couples choose <strong>to</strong> get<br />
married. The city is a fascinating blend of sights and sounds.<br />
Day 5: Udaipur. Enjoy breakfast, <strong>the</strong>n visit City Palace and<br />
explore <strong>the</strong> bazaar down <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> palace in <strong>the</strong> afternoon.<br />
Day 6: Udaipur. After breakfast, explore Jagdish Temple and<br />
Saheliyon-Ki-Bari. Explore a local bazaar and end your evening<br />
with dinner and an overnight stay in Udaipur.<br />
Day 7: Udaipur - Jodhpur. Experience <strong>the</strong> feeling of travelling<br />
back in time while you catch a glimpse of this ancient Desert<br />
City built on <strong>the</strong> edge of <strong>the</strong> Thar Desert. His<strong>to</strong>ry oozes from<br />
<strong>the</strong> city’s magnificent forts, palaces and temples. Named <strong>the</strong><br />
Blue City, it still retains its medieval charm.<br />
Day 8: Jodhpur. Today we take our sightseeing <strong>to</strong>ur <strong>to</strong><br />
Mehrangarh Fort, one of <strong>the</strong> largest forts in India. The beauty<br />
and grandeur of numerous palaces inside, narrates a saga<br />
of hard sands<strong>to</strong>nes yielding <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> chisels of skilled Jodhpuri<br />
sculptures. Then, visit Jaswant Thada and Old city - surrounded<br />
by a 10km long wall that has 8 gates serving as entrances.<br />
Day 9: Jodhpur (Incredible Rural Experience). <strong>Travel</strong><br />
through <strong>the</strong> desert in 4X4 vehicles. Visit <strong>the</strong> homes of<br />
members of different communities such as <strong>the</strong> Bishnois,<br />
Rajputs and Raikas. Dinner will be at one of <strong>the</strong> village homes.<br />
Day 10: Jodhpur. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and <strong>the</strong>n you<br />
are free <strong>to</strong> explore local markets for shopping.<br />
Day 11: Jodhpur - Jaisalmer. <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> “Golden City”<br />
built in 1156AD and located deep in <strong>the</strong> heart of <strong>the</strong> Desert<br />
and famous for its Havellis and amber hued houses. The<br />
afternoon is free for you <strong>to</strong> stroll through <strong>the</strong> streets and get a<br />
glimpse of <strong>the</strong> lifestyle of <strong>the</strong> locals. Or, enjoy a <strong>the</strong>rapeutic spa<br />
treatment at our Hotel - an inexpensive treat for your body.<br />
Day 12: Jaisalmer. Visit <strong>the</strong> 15th century Jaisalmer Fort and<br />
palaces, Patwon Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Haveli. Conclude <strong>the</strong><br />
day with a camel safari on <strong>the</strong> sand dunes of <strong>the</strong> Thar Desert.<br />
Day 13: Jaisalmer. Today enjoy leisurely breakfast <strong>the</strong>n<br />
<strong>the</strong> day is kept free <strong>to</strong> explore local markets for shopping.<br />
Day 14: Jaisalmer - Gajner. Visit <strong>the</strong> Gajner Palace, used as<br />
a Hunting Resort by Maharajas. Built on <strong>the</strong> banks of Gajner<br />
Lake by Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh Ji of Bikaner in early 20th<br />
century. The afternoon is free for you <strong>to</strong> relax.<br />
Day 15: Gajner. Have a leisurely breakfast <strong>the</strong>n go by<br />
pushbike (optional) <strong>to</strong> visit a brick making fac<strong>to</strong>ry.<br />
Day 16: Gajner - Jaipur. We head <strong>to</strong>wards Jaipur, <strong>the</strong> first<br />
planned city of India. It’s a treasure-trove of culture, art and<br />
his<strong>to</strong>ry, famous for its colour, life style and Rajasthani cuisine.<br />
The his<strong>to</strong>ric pink-painted sands<strong>to</strong>ne architecture earned <strong>the</strong><br />
city <strong>the</strong> affectionate nickname of <strong>the</strong> ‘Pink City’.<br />
Day 17: Jaipur. We head off on a city <strong>to</strong>ur where we will<br />
visit Amber Fort, <strong>the</strong> ancient capital of Rajasthan We will ride<br />
elephants from <strong>the</strong> bot<strong>to</strong>m <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> actual Fort a<strong>to</strong>p <strong>the</strong> hill. We<br />
also visit <strong>the</strong> most amazing Jantar Mantar, one of <strong>the</strong> famed<br />
observa<strong>to</strong>ries built by Sawai Jai Singh.<br />
Day 18: Jaipur. We will go <strong>to</strong> Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace)<br />
after breakfast. This palace was built in 1799 by Maharaja<br />
Sawai Pratap Singh at a time when women of <strong>the</strong> royal family<br />
had <strong>to</strong> observe strict purdah. Later we will go <strong>to</strong> a “textile”<br />
village, <strong>the</strong>n in <strong>the</strong> evening proceed for a home style Indian<br />
Cooking class.<br />
Day 19: Jaipur - Agra. Drive <strong>to</strong> see <strong>the</strong> city of <strong>the</strong> TAJ.<br />
En-route we visit Fatehpur Sikri - a world heritage site. The<br />
construction was started in 1571 but this city was abandoned<br />
in 1884 due <strong>to</strong> scarcity of water. We <strong>the</strong>n continue our drive <strong>to</strong><br />
Agra and <strong>the</strong> remaining afternoon is free <strong>to</strong> relax at <strong>the</strong> hotel or<br />
explore <strong>the</strong> city.<br />
Day 20: Agra. Wake up early for an optional Yoga session. We<br />
<strong>the</strong>n proceed <strong>to</strong> see <strong>the</strong> monument of love - <strong>the</strong> Taj Mahal. This<br />
monument was created by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of<br />
his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is <strong>the</strong> most perfect marble<br />
built architectural monument in <strong>the</strong> world. We also visit a marble<br />
inlay workshop <strong>to</strong> understand <strong>the</strong> work of <strong>the</strong> artisans.<br />
Day 21: Agra - Delhi. <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>to</strong>wards Delhi. Afternoon and<br />
evening are free for any last minute shopping. Farewell dinner.<br />
Day 22: Depart Delhi for Singapore.<br />
Day 23: Arrive Singapore early morning. On arrival, transfer<br />
<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> hotel. The day is free <strong>to</strong> explore or relax as you wish.<br />
Day 24: Depart Singapore in <strong>the</strong> evening for NZ.<br />
Day 25: Arrive in Christchurch and <strong>the</strong>n Nelson.<br />
