Here at BB Genetics we have reached our goal of producing “Large framed, healthy
typical deer year-after-year”, but there is always room for improvement. Our main goal is to
keep improving our bucks so that we are able to supply the hunting preserves and other deer
farmers with deer that will produce what almost any hunter would want . . . a big framed buck.
In order to help other deer farmers, at BB Genetics, when we sell a doe you are guaranteed to
have what we have, because if there are twins or triplets, we keep one for ourselves. Sometimes
we have had to make tough decisions on whether to sell some of the does that we have, but we
can’t keep them all. So we are proud to be able to supply other deer farmers with some amazing
deer.
We have used our own line of pedigrees since day one with an occasional dose of another
line of pedigree to see if it would change things up a little, like more tines or width, etc. I
won’t sugarcoat this but sometimes it worked and sometimes it put us behind. It’s all a learning
curve. I will say that we had great results crossing our does with Thunder and Thunderstorm.
They produced BB Thunder Cloud, BB Hail Storm, BB Sleet Storm, just to name a few, that we
used as breeder bucks.
Comments: #231 is a daughter of BB Snaps and out of a Magnum doe. She is being bred to Rifle Man. Boys and
girls I am telling you this will be an opportunity of a life time, talk about long tines! BB Snaps had 17” tines, 24” wide
and Rifle Man has 14-15 1/2” tines, 24” inside and a big 8 point, 4x4, with 28” main beams. I’ll tell you if I can raise big
8’s scoring 180”-200” plus like we have been doing I’d like to sell 6 or 8 4x4’s every year and make a whole lot more
money on them than you will on any other deer. If you don’t think so just ask Mark Pierce or any preserve owner, they
get alot of requests. Don’t miss out!
Comments: #227 is a yearling doe we are breeding with BB Curly. This does mother is out of our best
Dane doe producer and Sleet Storm (Thunderstorm) son who we had AI’d to Shock N Awe (Palmer buck).
This yearling has alot of typical bloodlines in her on top and bottom. By matching her up with BB Curly
you are bound to get huge framed deer. BB Curly scored 300”+ @2 as a 7x10, 25” wide. BB Curly’s buck
fawns are looking very impressive with the way their spikes are looking-massive and good length.
Comments: R-SS2 is 4 1/2 years old. This doe has a bloodline that we keep using and using. Of course (Ruth, O-8)
is deceased, but we keep her offspring going. Sleet Storm was the twin brother to BB Hail Storm. They both were very
nice typical bucks with nice frames, and long tines. Look at the picture of bucks that have came out of these bloodlines:
BB Sleet Storm, BB Hail Storm (Thunderstrom/Thunder), BB HD, BB Snaps, BB Socks. Now take this doe, R-SS2 matched
up to BB Widowmaker a 3 year old Chopper son who is a 5x5, 25” wide, scoring 260”. What will you get? Big frame,
mass, long tines, long brows. What more could you ask for!!!
do the hands on feeding and caring for the deer. We started in the deer industry in 2008. We
bought 3 does and a breeder buck, Skyscraper, a PA Geronimo son. Yellow 81 one of our does
was bred to PH Doc, she gave us a single buck fawn.
In 2009, he went beyond our expectations and scored 190” + as a yearling, we named
him Lucky Strike. In 2010, he scored 248”+. In the 2010-2011 breeding season our doe herd
consists of 12 adult does and 7 doe fawns. Live cover sires are Big Guy, Goliath W-105, Lucky
Strike, and Bucko (he is our newest purchase a Marsh Milbo/Bucky cross). Big frames, long tines,
and the whitetail look is what we are striving for. With hopes of making enough money to keep
it interesting, but not so much that we forget our God and friends.
We bought our first deer in 2006. We have the priviledge of being near neighbors to
Hickory Hill Whitetails and Swamp Creek Whitetail farms. This is when our interest in deer farming
increased. An invite to join was extended to us, Swamp Creek Whitetails offered to furnish
pens and feed so Esther and I readily agreed. We invested in our first deer at John Yoder’s and
Jerry Campbell’s last auction together as partners. We wanted the typical look, with power to
produce. We chose to start with Redoy Bill, Flees and Thunderstorm as our foundation stock. We
have been crossing these genetics with the best the industry has to offer. We are excited with
what we are able to witness in these few short years.
The name Aviation Deer Farm is a child hood facination with aircraft and as an adult
who now can induldge in bringing the two together for a theme reflecting the deer industry!
The guts and determination to engineer something that works. After being told it can’t be
done! It also gives me a chance to honor all the dedicated people who didn’t give up on aviation
and deer farming until success beyond imagination was achieved!
Good luck and Blessing wished for all in the deer industry.
We at Ridgetop Acres, as a family, consist of only 4. My wife Marie, our only child Jeremy
and his wife Susan, and myself. We have a pallet shop and a 105 acre farm where we raise
alfalfa hay and whitetail deer!
We got our first deer in January,1999. 3 does and a button buck. The next morning
one doe was dead and that fall the button buck as a yearling got pneumonia and also died.
Discouraging, but we didnt give up. We bought more does and kept on breeding for
better genetics. Today, 10 years later, our herd consists of around 50 head with sons and daughters
of some of the best sires available. Our does are from Max, Maxbo, Maxbo Ranger, Rolex,
Marty Graw, Sundowner, Doc, Maximus DT, Flees Lucky, Maverick, Maxbo Dominator, and more.
Hope to see you all at the 2011 auctions and wishing you all a great New Year!
My wife and I own and operate Jordan’s Bear Den & Turkey Coop in Northpoint, PA.
We do wholesale turkey mounts and bear rugs. We have two daughters and five grandchildren,
ages 1-7.
We started raising deer for reference for our business, so I could study them to give
my customers a better quality mount, after raising the first two which we thoroughly enjoyed.
My wife wanted to raise deer so we went and purchased a buck fawn, which is now a 253 3/8”
three year old we call Cherokee.
We enjoyed raising deer so much that we named our farm “Just For Fun Whitetails”
and yes we are still having fun (well most days). We are breeding for large main frame typical.
What started out with 2 deer for fun and enjoyment has now grown to 15 acres and 36 deer.
In 2008, we partnered with some very good friends, Kevin and Wanda, they have 4
sons, 3 grandsons, and 1 granddaughter. Kevin and Tim keep busy feeding and maintaining.
Wanda does all the computer work, and come spring we are all busy with fawns. This year we
used GB Magic, Powerball, Bucky Boy, Patrick Jr., Sheriff in our AI program. These deer will be
backed up to our Cherokee, we have also sent a few out to other farms to be live bred. Were
really excited about this years fawns.
We invite you to stop in and check out our farm. Contact us anytime.
Bred Doe, 2 Years Old
We started raising deer in 1998. The boys and I started talking about raising deer for
about five years before we really got into it. Then Enos got cancer and started going through
treatments and we thought that raising deer would be a way to encourage him. We went and
bought 5 does, a few off of Dan Kuhns, and a few off of Ben Coblentz to get us started. Then
we went and bought 5 does from Dan Weaver, and more off of Dream Mountain, a big hunting
preserve in West Virginia. Dream Mountain raises a lot of 200”+ animals for their preserve. We
bought 3 daughters out of Dream Mountain’s Moose, scoring 245” @ 7. At 7 years old Dream
Mountain’s Moose was put on the preserve and shot. We bought 2 daughters out of a son of
Dream Mountain’s Moose that we called 190 does because he was a nice big typical. At 5 years
old the Moose son did not get any better so they put him on the preserve and shot him. I talked
them into selling me 2 J-44 daughters, he was about 230” non typical and 205” typical. Before
I had bought my does off of Dream Mountain, they had never sold any animals to anyone else
because they were only raising them for their preserve.
The reason I decided to cross the Dream Mountain’s Moose daughter’s with Omrey
was because Moose had a lot of mass and Omrey had a lot of width. We then put JPB on top of
that daughter and that’s how we ended up with FTW Moose.
The way he is bred I think he will really produce. He has mass with width and then put
JPB on top and he has all the splits. I think he will pass on his genetics.
Here at Schmucker’s Whitetails there is always something going
on. Between our herb business and whitetails, seems like we never quite
get caught up. This past fall was extra busy with building our new handling
system and also with TB testing. Seems like our hard work is paying
off as this past summer was a good antler year for us. We sold 16 bucks,
13 of the 16 averaged 218”, the best we ever had. This is not counting the
breeder bucks. Chancin is starting to show us what he can do for us. As we
had our best group of 1 year olds in 2010. We look forward to 2011 growing
season as we will have plenty of bucks to watch grow, 35 one year
olds, 32 two year olds, 20 three year olds plus Chancin 5 years old, and
Unique 4 years old.
Visitors are always a highlight at our place!
Buck Creek Whitetails got started 8 years ago when dad (Joe Stutzman) bought 3 bred
does from his brother-in-law, Glen Lambright. After 2 years of helping with his deer and going
to auctions, my interest grew to the point where I bought 2 bred does of my own. I had good
luck that first year with 4 live fawns, I was hooked. After that I bought some good quality doe
fawns with high hopes for that dream buck.
I am now looking forward for spring with several of my younger does having their first
sons growing out. It didn’t take long for us to realize deer multiply fast which keeps it interesting
and challenging. We are live breeding 20 + adult does on the farm this year. We feel it is
important to breed with deer that look like we want their offspring to look like. We are using
several new breeders this year, check them out on my ad. We are located approximately 12
miles southeast of Shipshewana, IN. Feel free to stop in if you get in the area, or if you have any
questions leave a message at 260-585-4029 Good luck to all!
Mary and I started raising deer in 1994. We started with 4 does from
Ervin Hostetler and 5 does from Roy Yoder. The first year we rented a buck from
Roy Yoder, and the second year one from Ervin. The third year we were able to
purchase a buck from Ervin. A couple of years later as our herd grew, we went to
Eddie Ray’s and bought a son of Thunder who we called Flash. We then added a
handling facility and built an observation towers. The towers sure made it easier
when the need to dart one deer comes up. In 2004 we bought a buck from Ernest
Tracey we named Big Gamble because of the money we spent. That was the last
breeder buck we bought because about then AI became popular and now we do
all AI’ing using our own bucks as cover bucks.
Mary and I both enjoy the deer business as there is no dull time. In the
spring is big bellied does and horns growing, summer babies arriving and horn
growing, fall brings fawn weaning, velvet shedding, then its doe breeding, later
horns dropping and then we start all over again.
The terminal market (the hunters arrow) defines the value of our genetics and is the
truthful jury of all genetics being bought, sold and bred. Until the antler gene is mapped, we
will breed with discipline to achieve our goal, and a pure bred sire with 20”+ G-2’s, 18”+ G-3’s
and 16”+ G-4’s, 36”+ main beams and a 24”-26” inside spread. We are beginning this discipline
by pasture breeding Thunderstrike to our best daughters of his half-brother AllStar. We do not
expect the unexpected. Thunderstrike has the most disciplined and balanced typical framed
sires directly behind him in his genetree of any sire we know of: Thunderstorm, Thunder, Buckwheat,
Buckwheat Jr. , and JB. These are his parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
None have G-2’s shorter than G-3’s. None have bifercated tines. None have sucker tines. Thunderstrike
doesn’t either. Fluke or Discipline?
Our 2010 main A-I sires were the following: Arty-363 lbs., 28” + inside, 30”+ main
beams, 5x5 frame over 245”.....Big Ben-over 400 lbs. 30” + inside, 30”+ mainbeams......Amos-over
I started raising deer in 2002 as a hobby and potential income. In 2004 I met
a great woman Sarah, and with God’s blessing we were married. Sarah and I evaluated
our business plan and decided to redo our doe genetics and eliminate eight of our
breeders to buy better genetics. We decided to breed with some of the best genetics
for a large and heavy typical frame. Our decision has been paying off.
We are a small operation which allows us to bottle feed all of our fawns including
bucks. We strive for tame does and 5 to 10 foot bucks. This is working and our
whole herd is very manageable. Our AI success rate for our bottle fed fawns is 100%.
We vaccinate all of our fawns and have a strong vaccinating and worming program for
our adults. Our herd is EHD vaccinated and over 60% DNA’d.
