Regional Exchange
The number of traineeships filled by students
from non –European countries accounted for
37% of the number of students sent, a 5%
increase from 2003.
Europe continues to dominate the exchange.
Some 62.7% of all trainees were sent from EU
and other European countries and 67.5% of all
trainees were received in Europe, a decrease of
5% from 2003.
Figure 2b
indicates the training periods for 2004 with
48% of trainees on a 6-8 week placement with
just over 25% on placements lasting between 8-
12 weeks.
Figure 3. The number of trainees to benefit
from long-term placements represents just
under 25 % of total placements in 2004. This
aspect of the exchange has been in decline
since 1999, the first year to collect these figures.
The open international exchange is clearly
illustrated by the number of Members and Cooperating
Institutions that exchange with each
other. In 2004 each Member and Co-operating
Institution exchanged on average with 15 other
Members and Co-operating Institutions.
