Shipbuilders Create Label Plate Database
Shipbuilders from CVN 78 Design,
Engineering, Process Excellence, Planning,
Office Services, Design Integration,
Construction, and Trades recently created
the first shipyard “Label Plate Database.”
The database is capable of functioning
as both a database and a design tool
allowing users to visually check, edit,
configuration manage, and store label
plates.
“This new process will help to eliminate
the amount of recomposing and rework
required,” said George Riddick (O14). “In
the past, we were required to work from
engineering drawings and recompose
all verbiage, import information into
the correct size templates and then
manufacture the label plate.”
“Since all label plates for CVN 78 carriers are in the database, there is no need to create drawings for label
plates as we have done in the past,” said Trey Borum (E79). “The database creates not only all plates that are
standard for the CVN 78 program, but also has the ability to accept any graphically-created JPEG image as a
“non-standard” plate.”
Builder Graduate Recognized
The Apprentice School welcomed back alumni Bob Bolden,
California construction director, on Aug. 25 in honor of his
recent contributions to the successful delivery of California.
Bolden, a 1981 Builder graduate, is the first to be recognized
in a new series designed to highlight alumni who have made
significant contributions to NNS. The program seeks to reinforce
the core values of The Apprentice School and the level of
accomplishment that graduates continue to achieve across the
company. During his visit, Bolden was accompanied by Everett
Jordan, director of Apprentice School Education, Apprentice
School staff and Virginia-Class Submarine instructors and was
given a tour of the school, information about new and
expanded programs, and had the opportunity to reflect on
his days as an apprentice pipe fitter.
of Apprentice School Education.
“Everett Jordan and his staff do a great job in maintaining the history as well as projecting an exciting vision for
The Apprentice School,” said Bolden. “The school has several new and expanded programs that reinforce core
leadership values that will prepare apprentices to fill key leadership positions in our company. I am very excited
about the school’s future, its positive impact on the company going forward and am proud to be an alumnus
of this great school.”
