Game Directions
Material needed:
- One 8 1/2” x 11” sheet per player with the 28 lines
of letter/vowel sounds
- 1 set of Look-Alike card strips
- 1 game board with stars (optional if students are
just reading or playing classroom Tic-Tac-Toe)
Tic-Tac-Toe (Classroom)
Draw a Tic-Tac-Toe grid on the blackboard or paper. Shuffle the
card strips and have the player/team with “X” start by reading the
top card strip. The player/players on the “O” team tell the “X”
team player if he/she is correct. If the player/team is correct, the
player puts an “X” in a square on the playing board. Play passes to
the other player/team whether or not the player is correct. Play
continues until the player/team has three “X”s or “O”s in a row
(horizontally, vertically, diagonally) or until all of the squares are
filled (cat’s game).
Using A Game Board (with stars)
Divide class into groups of 2-4 students per game board. The
players take turns rolling the die and moving his/her pawn. If the
reader lands on a star, the reader takes a card strip and reads it to
the other players. If the reader is correct, the reader remains on the
star. If the reader makes a mistake, the reader moves back to the
space he/she just came from. All players should finish to determine
who is first, second, etc. winner.

How To Assemble Look Alike Letter-Vowel Game
Make a copy of the title below. Cut out title and glue on the front of
a 6”x9” envelope. Copy the 2 “Look Alike” card sheets on colored
cardstock. Make 2 copies of the “Look Alike” reading sheet on 20 lb.
paper. Make one copy of the directions on 20 lb. paper. Laminate
the envelope with the flap open. Laminate the card sheets, instructions
and reading sheets. Cut the card sheets into cards. Store game
in laminated envelope.
