The course forms part of the Teacher Education programme.
Prerequisites
60 university credits within a General Education area. A
further 60 university credits focusing on chemistry, GIX820 or
the equivalent
Expected learning The course aims at developing student competence in
outcomes
conducting research and development work in teaching and
learning chemistry.
After completing the course the students are expected to be
able to
• independently formulate, structure and carry out a
research and development project
• present in argumentative writing a research and
development project
• critically examine and act as the opponent of a degree
project within the subject area
•
Course contents The course comprises the following elements:
• planning and implementing a degree project
• a written report of the student's own project
• a critical examination of another student's degree project
Teaching methods The degree project is planned and implemented individually or
in pairs in consultation with the tutor. The course also includes
compulsory working seminars, when questions relevant to the
independent project are discussed.

Assessment methods
The examination forms are oral and written and take place at
an examination seminar concluding the course. To
successfully complete the course the student has to present and
defend the degree project, critically examine and act as the
opponent of another degree project as well as actively
participate in other seminars. In cases where several students

have conducted a joint project, the individual contributions
have to be distinguishable and possible to assess individually.
The grades used are Pass with Distinction , Pass or Fail.
The course corresponds to GO9293
Students who have successfully completed the course will
obtain a study certificate at request.
Credits for courses or parts of courses are determined by the
examiner.
