The cour<strong>se</strong> forms part of the Teacher Education programme.<br />

Prerequisites<br />

60 university credits within a General Education area. A<br />

further 60 university credits focusing on chemistry, GIX820 or<br />

the equivalent<br />

Expected learning The cour<strong>se</strong> aims at developing <strong>student</strong> competence in<br />

outcomes<br />

conducting re<strong>se</strong>arch and development work in teaching and<br />

learning chemistry.<br />

After completing the cour<strong>se</strong> the <strong>student</strong>s are expected to be<br />

able to<br />

• independently formulate, structure and carry out a<br />

re<strong>se</strong>arch and development project<br />

• pre<strong>se</strong>nt in argumentative writing a re<strong>se</strong>arch and<br />

development project<br />

• critically examine and act as the opponent of a degree<br />

project within the subject area<br />

•<br />

Cour<strong>se</strong> contents The cour<strong>se</strong> compri<strong>se</strong>s the following elements:<br />

• planning and implementing a degree project<br />

• a written report of the <strong>student</strong>'s own project<br />

• a critical examination of another <strong>student</strong>'s degree project<br />

Teaching methods The degree project is planned and implemented individually or<br />

in pairs in consultation with the tutor. The cour<strong>se</strong> also includes<br />

compulsory working <strong>se</strong>minars, when questions relevant to the<br />

independent project are discus<strong>se</strong>d.<br />

As<strong>se</strong>ssment methods<br />

The examination forms are oral and written and take place at<br />

an examination <strong>se</strong>minar concluding the cour<strong>se</strong>. To<br />

successfully complete the cour<strong>se</strong> the <strong>student</strong> has to pre<strong>se</strong>nt and<br />

defend the degree project, critically examine and act as the<br />

opponent of another degree project as well as actively<br />

participate in other <strong>se</strong>minars. In ca<strong>se</strong>s where <strong>se</strong>veral <strong>student</strong>s<br />

have conducted a joint project, the individual contributions<br />

have to be distinguishable and possible to as<strong>se</strong>ss individually.<br />

Students who have successfully completed the cour<strong>se</strong> will<br />

obtain a study certificate at request.<br />
