A participant must be the indicated age by the<br />

start of the program. All age requirements are<br />

set to benefit the participant and make instruc-<br />

tion more consistent for the program leader. In<br />

some instances, the requirements have been set<br />

for the participant’s safety.<br />

Participation in our programs and leagues is at<br />

Messy Munchkins<br />

This art exploration camp, for children 4-5<br />

years of age, provides a fun opportunity for<br />

participants to learn a variety of different art<br />

mediums, create many diverse projects, and<br />

Calling all cake decorators in training! Confection Affection is a<br />

“mommy (or daddy) and me” beginner cake decorating class pairing<br />

child-like imagination with trusted technique to design and decorating<br />

edible art. This six-week opportunity offers a different confectionary<br />

theme every week including shaped cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, cookie<br />

Family Fun <strong>Summer</strong> Olympics<br />

Gather your family and make your way down to the Recreation Department’s First Annual<br />

Family Fun Olympic Games! Spend a Friday night with the <strong>Chambersburg</strong> Cardinals as you compete in various<br />

games and contests for hundreds of dollars worth of great prizes! (and FREE Rita’s Italian Ice for all<br />

family contestants!)<br />

Some prizes include a FREE, one-day, moon bounce rental from Phantom Shadow Entertainment, a Family<br />

Portrait Package with national award-winning photographer, Rodney Clark of Clark Photography, Pop-in<br />

Picture Perfect<br />

Inviting all kids wanting to become snap-shot savvy to our first summer photography camp! Participants<br />

will learn how to operate their camera settings, work with lighting and learn to shoot a variety<br />

of different types of photos. Some concepts include: portraits, nature scenes, movement and macro<br />

(close-up photography).<br />

Participants must bring their own digital camera, preferably one with manual setting. The first class<br />

meets at the Rec Center and subsequent days may meet at other local, designated locations.<br />

Culminate the week with an art showing of your favorite photos!<br />

Beginners, if you're interested in learning basic skills, improving existing abilities, or how to properly use the skate<br />

park obstacles, join us for one of our skateboarding clinics! An introduction to longboarding will also be taught.<br />

will learn a variety of rhythm and dance moves set to some current and classic<br />

hip-hop songs. Participants will showcase their dances for friends and family Friday<br />

exercises, running form drills, fun fitness games, relays, and nutrition advice.<br />

Program will conclude with a mini-cross country race around the Memorial Park.<br />

introduction to personal finance is a life jacket for parents. Allow Trisha Dawe<br />

(certified teacher with a master’s in business) to teach your pre-teen the “ins” and<br />

“outs” of what comes in and what goes out – <strong>Of</strong> Your Purse, how to balance a bank<br />

account and how to save you “the green.” Using entertaining and relevant topics and<br />

techniques, your child will walk away with a new attitude toward money. This fourweek<br />

class will give new meaning to the phrase: “Do you know what that costs me?”<br />

Adult Introduction to Running<br />

This adult, beginner running class instructed by Rick Meyers,<br />

owner of The Runner’s Sole, will jump start that running routine<br />

you’ve been talking about! Lessons incorporate proper<br />

running form, detail types of running equipment, discuss injury<br />

prevention, and proper nutrition to maximize running<br />

efficiency. So grab your sneakers and join us to re-learn to run<br />

Intro to Glass Bead Making<br />

Flamework or torchwork to create glass beads, is a type<br />

of glasswork that uses a torch to melt rods and tubes<br />

consisting of clear and/or colored glass. Once in a molten<br />

state, the glass is formed by shaping with tools and<br />

hand movements. Participants interested in learning<br />

this unique art will be taught glass safety, types of<br />

torches, and how to use them. As well as, terminology,<br />

how to make simple round beads, dots and simple patterns,<br />

the use of temp., manipulating the torch, annealing,<br />

and tempering glass. Individuals 15 years - adults<br />

can expect to generate a variety of beads to proudly<br />

create their own jewelry! Class instructed by Tom and<br />

Jen Davis. Held at their workshop on Falling <strong>Spring</strong> Rd.<br />

Red Cross Certified “Learn to Swim” Program<br />

All classes are taught by certified Red Cross Instructors. All lessons are held at the <strong>Chambersburg</strong><br />

Municipal Pool, M-F, in 2-week increments. If necessary, you may divide your session and register<br />

for the first week of one session and the second week of another, except for Guard Start and Lifeguarding<br />

Today.<br />

Planning a party for your kids, but not sure what to do? Let the Municipal Pool come to your rescue! We<br />

offer parties during regular pool operational hours, or you may rent the pool for a private gathering. See<br />

below for basic information, but call the Recreation Department for further details and to schedule your<br />

Nanny Add-on - A nanny / babysitter (age 18 or older), may be added to a family, youth, or adult membership at half the price of an adult<br />

When either a Grandparent or a Nanny attends the pool, he/she must show pass upon entry, and must be accompanied by a<br />

member of the family holding pass ownership. If the individual is not accompanied by a family member, the daily rate will be charged.<br />

Military Discount - Active military personnel and family members showing proper military ID are eligible to receive a season pass or the<br />

daily rate at 50% off the regular price of admission.<br />

Programs<br />

We will offer refunds for any program, provided you contact us 7 days prior to the first class. (A $5.00 administrative fee will be retained by the<br />

Recreation Department for each refund issued.) After this time refunds will not be issued except for medical emergencies.<br />

Swimming Lessons<br />

Transfers are honored two weeks prior to the start of each session and are assessed a fee of $5.00. Refunds are only granted for illness, injury, or<br />

medical emergency, and families must provide a physician’s note.<br />

Returned Checks<br />

Any check returned for insufficient funds will be assessed an additional $25.<br />

Register Early! Any program that doesn’t receive sufficient registration by it’s deadline may be canceled.<br />
