A good example of that is one of our own, Anthony Rosano & the Conqueroos.This group won the latest session of the Natchel’ Blues Network (NBN) Hampton Roads competition for the 29thInternational Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. They also have a slammin’ EP CD out for your listening pleasure. There areonly five cuts on this release, but they are five strong cuts.The CD was recorded Live at TEGU Studios with band members Anthony Rosano on vocals and guitars, Dion “Suga D” Davis on drums, “Smilin’”Jack Campbell on harps, and Paul Warren on bass.The cuts range from hard-drivin’ blues like “Maureen” and “Going to Texas” to the slow-rollin’ side of “Get Satisfied” with its great harp work by“Smilin’” Jack. Go out and catch these guys around town. Pick up their CD. You’re in for a treat.Blues CD Reviews - Brian “The BLuesman” BeachumAL BASILEAt Home With the Blues/Next Door to the Blues (2-CD Set)Sweet Spot Records 9222www.sweet-spot-records.comAl Basile, the original trumpet player for Duke Robillard’s famous Roomful of Blues band, just released a two-CD set ofblues music that has a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde kinda feel. They are both strong in their own right, but different as well. Justto mention up front, Duke Robillard plays guitar on and produced both CDs.The first disc, At Home With the Blues, is comprised of 13 re-mastered cuts from Al’s 1998-2010 catalog featuring some solid blues and swing bluestracks and one original piece. This alone would qualify as fantastic blues release.Disc two, Next Door to the Blues, has a completely different feel. Al and Duke throw in some funk, some more horns, and a touch more R&B. Oh,my! They also change the line-up on the back-up band. On this CD, you get 13 equally strong cuts that keep the party rolling. This 2-CD combo setis jammed full of terrific blues, jammin’ soul, some sweet R&B, and a touch of some funk. How can you go wrong?
