First Days
First days are always exciting
and full of fun. For the freshmen
it may be new and bewildering
experiences such as
getting your first ID card. The
First days are also a time to fill
out Registration cards and
meet new teachers. For some it
is a real adjustment getting
back in the routine of setting
still in a class room on a nice
day for forty full minutes. For
others it is a time to meet old
friends and talk about the past
summer or a chance to meet
new people. For almost everyone
it will be a time that they
will remember some day and
say "It didn't get any better."
We did have a great Hog Days this
year. After many rumors and discussion
it was decided finally that Hog
Days was staying in Kewanee. There
were a couple of old rides missing but
there were new ones to replace them.
Everyone had fun making new friends
and hanging out with old ones.
Varsity Football
"Just another dream team", was all that was
heard after each varsity football game this
year. The team finished 9-2 overall and 5-0 in
our conference. This is only the third Kewanee
team to win nine games in a season. For the
first time since 1985, the Kewanee varsity
football team was in the IHSA Quarterfinals.
Their talent, hard work, and dedication was a
great sight to see.

The 1993 Volleyball team had set
many goals for this years season.
Some of these goal were to win
the Galva Tournament. They
successfully met that goal. The
Volleyball team won the first
game in Regionals, but was
stopped by Annawan in the second.
Over all the volleyball team
played hard and had lots of success
in their season this year.
Hopefully next year more goals
will be met.
The Kewanite has gone through many changes under the supervision of the editors Kelli Saey and Rebecca Bryan. Although
the staff, including the editors, were filled with inexperience, everyone did the best she could. Despite all the minor hassles
and various problems that seemed to keep popping up throughout the year, the finished product was a welcome sight for
sore eyes.
to Washington D.C. and get a vacation from!
school while learning about our nation's government.
Many of the students pay most of their
way to D.C. by selling candy bars at school. The
trip usually starts at the Quad City Airport and
the student gets to meet a lot of people and see'
how our government works.

Applied Economics (also called Business Management and Ownership)
is a semester class dealing with the ins and outs of running a
business. It takes you on a journey of launching a business, financing
a business, competing with other firms, and making decisions on
production, marketing, research and development, and seeing how
supply and demand effects the market place. The class then splits up
into small companies which compete against each other on a computer
simulation.
Another great feature about the class is that once a week a business
consultant comes in to talk about the actual world of business. The
students relate what he brings to the classroom with the material
learned in class. The consultants this year were Doug Currier from
Pizza Hut and Roman Dymerski.
In December, five students from the AE class went to Moline to
compete in an Economics Bowl against schools from Illinois and
Iowa. The team placed second. This marks the 2nd time Kewanee
H.S. has placed second in very challenging Bowl competition.
And the scandal unfolding, between
Harding and Kerrigan.
At the girls basketball garrte, Ed loses his
seat,
And y'all know the track team, will
never be beat.
Our classes are over, our books are
turned in,
The seniors are ready, a new life to ;
begin.
When all is done, we'll walk out that
door,
The greatest group ever, the class of '94.
AFS
"
This year was different for K.H.S. in that we
had 3 AFS students. Kewanee Schools had a
large number of students this year due to the
record summer floods that ravaged the midwest
in the summer of '93. Many homes that
were to be the hosts for AFS students were
destroyed by the flood and the students
could not go where they were originally
scheduled. But it turned to be "the more the
merrier". Every one enjoyed having Maria,
Celso, and Gaelle and hope they take back
good memories of Kewanee.
