Central Valley Corvettes - October 2015

The Central Valley Corvette Club was
chartered in 1991 for the owners of the only
real AMERICAN sports car, the awesome
CORVETTE. It's a social organization with
activities that provide enjoyment for the true
Corvette lover.
MONTHLY MEETINGS ARE HELD
AT 6.30 P.M. ON THE 3 RD TUESDAY
OF EVERY MONTH AT YOSEMITE
FALLS CAFE, 4278 W. ASHLAN AVE,
FRESNO CALIFORNIA. INTERESTED

ATTEND THE MEETINGS AND MEET
OUR MEMBERS.
Club activities include monthly meetings,
car shows, weekend Club activities,
overnighters, picnics, road rallies, summer
cruises, holiday get-to-gathers and more!
Eligibility for membership in CVC is
defined in Article III, section 1 of the
bylaws in part as follows: "Membership in
Central Valley Corvettes shall be open to all
Corvette owners who are sponsored by a
member in good standing. Additionally, a
prospective member must, within a three
month period , attend two consecutive
meetings, participate in two club sanctioned
social activities, pay current membership
dues and initiation fees, and be approved by
two- thirds vote of membership present at
any general membership meeting by secret
ballot
Sponsors shall be responsible for advising
prospective member of results. All members
must submit proof of personal insurance in
accordance with California State Law upon
application for membership, and all
members must be a member of the
association providing club liability insurance
for CENTRAL VALLEY CORVETTES.
A prospective member who does not have a
sponsor will be provided one by the
membership committee. Non-members may
not participate in more than three meetings
or two sanctioned activities.
CVC membership dues are $67.00 plus an
initiation fee of $35.00. Membership entitles
two members at the same address voting
privileges at meetings (provided they are in
good standing) and membership rights.

At the last general meeting we voted to
donate $1000 to the Marjaree Mason
Center. The Center was founded in
1979 by the YMCA-Fresno after the
kidnapping, rape and murder of
Marjaree Mason. Mason, a victim of
domestic violence, was killed by her exboyfriend,
a Fresno County Sheriff’s
Deputy. In 1998 the Marjaree Mason
Center became a stand-alone domestic
violence agency. The Center operates
three confidentially located safe
houses, with more than 200 beds, in
Fresno County. These Safe Houses
shelter women and children victims of
domestic violence. The Center also
provides legal assistance, counseling
and education for victims as well as
training necessary for those who want
to volunteer or work with victims.
This is a terrific local charity and I think
we did well in selecting them for our
donation. Thanks to Skip Severance for
proposing we do this. Skip along with
Charlotte Renna will be delivering our
check to the Center on October 1 st .
My wife, Jan, mentioned to me on the
last run we were on that there were a
lot of newer members on the run. I
hadn’t noticed it, but she was right.
It’s great to see so many members,
new and old enjoying the friendship
and exploring new places on our runs.
Keep up the good work.
All is ready for the Mystery Run. The
Sons have signed up so we now have
23 cars and 46 people. Frieda Null has
volunteered to once again be the
Margarita Honcho so plan on a couple
of Happy Hour get-togethers.

any fines, everyone wore their badges
tonight!

report.
The General Meeting was called to order
at 6:30 by President, Gary Pflepsen.
The minutes from the August general
meeting were rea by Debby Anderson,
Secretary. Leigh Ann Severance made a
motion to accept the minutes as read and
it was seconded by Don Condley. Motion
carried.
Craig Hansen, Parliamentarian handed out
ballots and we voted for charitable
donation and new board.
Mike Lebda, Treasurer gave his report.
Skip Severance VP of Activities had the run
leaders report on the previous runs.
Future runs will be Domino’s, Sugar Pine
Rail Road, Queen Halls, Murphy Park & the
Halloween party at Andy & Connie
Anderson’s house.
Dick Danielsen, VP of PR/Membership was
absent so Skip read the birthday and
anniversary report. He also said that there
are 23 cars and 26 members signed up for
the Presidents Mystery Run.
Club shirts were distributed. A few were
missing Fresno from the bottom of the patch
so Mike told everyone they could give the
shirt back and it would be fixed if they
wanted.
Results of the Charitable Donation: Marjorie
Mason Center for women got the most
votes. Skip is going to plan a time when
whoever wants to will get together to
present the check and they will make a mini
run out of it and go to eat after.
There was no new business at tonight’s
meeting.
The next General Meeting will be October
20, 2015 at 6:30.
The next Board Meeting will be September
22, 2015 at 7:00 pm at Debby Anderson’s
house.

Scott Parkin, Lupe Dawson seconded.

1. PER PATRICIA GARRAHAN: SHE HAS SPOKEN WITH PAULA FAM
REGARDING FREDDIE, HAS BEEN PLACED ON HOSPICE CARE. HE WILL
COME HOME ON WEDNESDAY AND PAULA HAS HIRED SOMEONE TO
HELP HER TAKE CARE OF HIM.
2. KEITH GARRISON’S KNEE REPLACEMENT SURGERY WENT WELL BUT
HE DEVELOPED CELLULITIS (INFECTION THAT CAUSES SWELLING AND
REDNESS OF THE SKIN AT THE SITE OF SURGERY) WHICH USUALLY
HAPPENS WHEN THERE IS TRAUMA TO THE SURROUNDING AREA SUCH
AS SURGERY. BECAUSE OF THE INFECTION HIS KNEE DID NOT HEAL
QUITE AS FAST AND HE HAD TO HAVE THE STAPLES IN AN EXTRA
WEEK AND THE DOCTOR TOOK HIM OFF THE THERAPY. HE IS AT
ALMOST WEEK 4 NOW AND HE IS GETTING BETTER EVERY DAY AND
STARTS BACK ON THERAPY SOON. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE CARDS,
EMAILS AND WELL-WISHES. THEY ALL MEAN A LOT.
3. FROM CHARLOTTE RENNA: SHE SPENT THE MOST WONDERFUL
WEEKEND IN MOOR PARK AND MALIBU CANYON ATTENDING HER
NEPHEW, MIKE JACALONES RETIREMENT FROM THE LAFD AFTER 35
YEARS OF SERVICE. HE WAS CALLED CAPTAIN JACK. HE WAS
HONORED FOR HIS SERVICE DURING THE 9/11 TRAGEDY, BEING
RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL FIREMEN CARRYING A RADIO CONTACT
DEVICE WHICH WAS AN IMPROVEMENT FOR ALL FIRE STATIONS.
CAPTAIN JACK ONLY TOOK 5 DAYS OFF FOR SICK DAYS DURING HIS
ENTIRE CAREER. THERE WERE OVER 200 PEOPLE AT THE PARTY, MOST
OF THEM BEING ACTIVE OR RETIRED FIREMEN. A TABLE WAS SET UP
IN HONOR OF ALL THE FALLEN MEN AND WOMEN OF THE 9/11
TRAGEDY. THE PARTY WAS HELD AT MALIBU WINERIES. CAPTAIN
MIKE IS CHARLOTTE'S SISTER ROSEMARY’S YOUNGEST.

Recipe for Sue’s Great Dessert
Milkmaid Pie
24 ice cream sandwiches, unwrapped
1 pint heavy whipping cream
½ cup sugar
6 heath bars crushed.
(I used 4 bars and added ½ cup chopped nuts.)
1 jar hot fudge topping (the kind for ice cream)
¼ cup strong coffee (left over coffee) or espresso
Beat heavy whipping cream with mixer.
When it forms soft peaks, stop mixing and
add sugar.
Then mix on high speed until stiff peaks form;
store in refrigerator when finished, and take out when ready to
assemble dessert.
Pour the hot fudge topping into a bowl and add the coffee or
espresso. Stir until smooth and combine. In 9x13 dish …
First layer: 12 ice cream sandwiches on the bottom. (Cut them to fit
dish); Second layer: spread ½ of the whipping cream; Third layer:
drizzle ½ of the fudge topping and Fourth layer: sprinkle with ½ of
the candy and nuts. Repeat layers.
Place the dessert in the freezer for an hour or more before
serving. Take it out of the freezer 10-15 minutes
before serving depending on the weather.
