Central Valley Corvettes of Fresno - November 2016

The Central Valley Corvette Club was
chartered in 1991 for the owners of the only
real AMERICAN sports car, the awesome
CORVETTE. It's a social organization with
activities that provide enjoyment for the true
Corvette lover.
MONTHLY MEETINGS ARE HELD
AT 6.30 P.M. ON THE 3 RD TUESDAY
OF EVERY MONTH AT YOSEMITE
FALLS CAFE, 4278 W. ASHLAN AVE,
FRESNO CALIFORNIA. INTERESTED

ATTEND THE MEETINGS AND MEET
OUR MEMBERS.
Club activities include monthly meetings,
car shows, weekend Club activities,
overnighters, picnics, road rallies, summer
cruises, holiday get-to-gathers and more!
Eligibility for membership in CVC is
defined in Article III, section 1 of the
bylaws in part as follows: "Membership in
Central Valley Corvettes shall be open to all
Corvette owners who are sponsored by a
member in good standing. Additionally, a
prospective member must, within a three
month period , attend two consecutive
meetings, participate in two club sanctioned
social activities, pay current membership
dues and initiation fees, and be approved by
two- thirds vote of membership present at
any general membership meeting by secret
ballot
Sponsors shall be responsible for advising
prospective member of results. All members
must submit proof of personal insurance in
accordance with California State Law upon
application for membership, and all
members must be a member of the
association providing club liability insurance
for CENTRAL VALLEY CORVETTES.
A prospective member who does not have a
sponsor will be provided one by the
membership committee. Non-members may
not participate in more than three meetings
or two sanctioned activities.
CVC membership dues are $67.00 plus an
initiation fee of $35.00. Membership entitles
two members at the same address voting
privileges at meetings (provided they are in
good standing) and membership rights.

TO EVERYONE!

Hi All,
October has been a busy month for Jan
and I. The first half of the month was
taken up with a cruise to the Greek islands
and we just finished the Mystery Run.
We went to Las Vegas for 4 days on the
Mystery Run and it seems like everybody
had a good time. I would like to thank
Dale and Sue Comer for all their help in
putting the run together and helping to
keep it running smoothly. They went to
Vegas with us on a pre-run and really
helped me in the whole process of
planning it. For those who weren’t on the
run, here are the highlights. We toured
the Las Vegas Speedway, drove through
Valley of Fire State Park, toured the Shelby
Museum and production area, went to the
Mob Museum, drove through Red Rock
Canyon and saw a magic show, “Illusions”,
at the Tropicana. Thanks to all the
members who went for their cooperation
and patience. It was my first big run and I
was learning as we went along.
Everything seems to be going great
with the club. Thanks to those who
have renewed their memberships and
for those who haven’t you have until
the November meeting to do so. Also
at the November meeting we will have
our annual vote for Board Members.
We have a lot of runs coming up so
sign up and enjoy the company of your
fellow members.
Charlie Fosnaugh and Tom Jarvis have
come up with a great jacket for
members to buy and at a great price.
Charlie sent an email out about it and
you should have your order in by now.
Thanks to them for putting out the
effort to do this.
Ed Dena has agreed to sponsor the
club again next year with a $1200
donation. Remember that when
you’re getting that new C7.

Jan Pflepsen gave her Sunshine and Clouds
report. Skip thanked her for doing such a
great job keeping us informed on what’s
going on with everyone.
Club shirts have all been distributed. Jackets
will be available to order this month. Tom
Jarvis modeled the black and red jacket that
we can order. With the embroidery it
should cost us around $60 each.
Skip read a Thank You note from the
Marjorie Mason Center thanking us for our
donation. They also sent some SHARES cards
to use that makes a donation every time you
scan your card while shopping at Save Mart
and several other stores.
The General Meeting was called to order at
6:30 by President, Gary Pflepsen.
The minutes from the September general
meeting were read by Debby Anderson,
Secretary. Joyce Kroeker made a motion to
accept the minutes as read and it was
seconded by Freida Null. Motion carried.
Craig Hansen, Parliamentarian said the
ballots are ready to go for next month’s vote.
Treasurer’s report was given by Mike Lebda.
Skip Severance, VP of Activities had the run
leaders report on the previous runs. Future
runs will be movies, dominoes and the
Presidents Mystery run that kicks off this
Sunday. Also there will be a Halloween party
and we talked about the Christmas party as
well.
Dick Danielsen, VP of PR/Membership gave
the Birthday and Anniversary report. He
introduced Craig & Darlene Derringer who
are guests of Andy & Connie Anderson and
possible future members. Dick also stated
that renewals were coming in steadily and to
remember they are due by December 15,
2015.
Sg. At Arms, Chuck Laningham collected
$2.50 in badge fines.
We voted on the Club donating $2,500
towards our Christmas Party. Fred Parks
made a motion to pay the $2,500 and Scott
Parkin seconded it. Motion Carried.
Members will pay $12.00 each to attend the
Club Christmas party and any nonmember,
guest will be charged $37.00.
We are checking to see if Ed Dena is still
interested in sponsoring us and we will
invite him to the Christmas party again this
year. The next General Meeting will be
November 17, 2015. The next Board
Meeting will be Thursday, October 22, 2015.

GREAT TO SEE EVERYONE ENJOYING ALL THE NEWS………
1. I ACTUALLY RECIEVED TWO MESSAGES FROM THE PIERCY’S. VERY INTERESTING. THE
MESSAGE SIMPLY SAYS “ IN CANCUN CONSUMING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS ……… THEN THE
SECOND MESSAGE SAYS: “I WILL ADD A LITTLE MORE TO OUR TRIP TO CANCUN – THE
FIRST NIGHT AT THE RESORT TOM TRIPPED FELL LANDED ON THE CONCRETE HITTING HIS
HEAD AND SCRAPING HIS LEG AND ANKLE. WE CALLED A DOCTOR AND IT WAS THE BEST
HUNDRED I’VE EVER PAID.TOM CHECKED OUT PERFECT EXCEPT FOR A WHOPPING
HEADACHE. THEY HAD TO MOVE TO ANOTHER RESORT SINCE RESORT WAS NOT ABLE TO
ACCOMMODATE EMILY AND TOM WITH A ROOM WITHOUT THE STEPS WHICH CAUSED
TO TRIPP. THEY HAD FIVE GOOD DAYS AND TWO WITH POURING RAIN. THEY ARE NOW
HOME AND GETTING READY TO GO ON THE MYSTERY RUN IN ANOTHER WEEK.
2. SOUNDS LIKE CHARLOTTE RENNA HAS BEEN BUSY IN THE KITCHEN. SHE HAD TWO
ENTRIES IN THE FRESNO FAIR THIS YEAR. HER BISCOTTI WON A FIRST PLACE AND BEST
OF SHOW. HER TADILLI WON THIRD PLACE. THESE WERE 2 OF JOE’S FAVORITE OF ALL
TIME ITALIAN COOKIES, SO CHARLOTTE FELT PRETTY PROUD TO HONOR HIM WITH THESE
ENTRIES. EVERY TIME SHE WOULD MAKE THEM, JOE WOULD SAY”THOSE ARE THE BEST
YOU HAVE EVER MADE!
3. FROM THE HANSEN’S: THEIR GRANDSON ATTICUS WAS OUT OF SCHOOL THIS WEEK SO
HE STAYED WITH PAM AND CRAIG FOR SEVERAL DAYS. THEY WENT TO THE FRESNO FAIR
AND SAW ICKEY WOODS (AS IN ICKEY SHUFFLE GETTING THE COLDCUTS.) CRAIG AND
ATTICUS GOT A PICTURE AND AUTOGRAPH. I DON’T KNOW WHO WAS MORE EXCITED –
CRAIG OR ATTICUS.
4. AND NOW FOR JULIE SONS: SHE AND DAVID JUST COME HOME FROM HAWAII. THEY
WENT TO SEE THEIR OLDEST DAUGHTER GET MARRIED. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL VACATION
AND DID NOT WANT TO COME HOME. WHEN THEY PRE-CHECKEDIN FROM HONOLULU
TO LA THE NIGHT BEFORE THEIR FLIGHT LEFT, THEY LEARNED THEY HAD TO BE AT THE
AIRPORT 4 HOURS EARLIER THAN THEY PLANNED. THEIR FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED AND
THEY WERE MOVED TO AN EARLIER FLIGHT. NO ROOM ON THE EARLY FLIGHT TO

FRESNO AND THEIR ORIGINAL FLIGHT WAS DELAYED 3 HOURS. THE PLANE ARRIVED AT
11PM BUT ONCE THEY ALL GOT SITUATED IN THEIR SEATS THEY TOOK JULIE AND DAVID
OFF THE PLANE BECAUSE ONE OF THE LUGGAGE CARTS HIT THE WING AND DAMAGED IT.
SO, THE WING WAS REPAIRED AND AFTER ANOTHER FEW HOURS LATER THEY WERE ON
THEIR WAY HOME. THEY DID NOT RETURN TO FRESNO UNTIL 3 AM.
5. JOYCE KROEKER HAS SHARED SOME INTERESTING FACTS. ON OCTOBER 25, 2008 ED
KROEKER HAD A HEART ATTACK. HE HAS DEFIED THE ODDS AND IS STILL AROUND AND
KICKING, ALGHOUGH NOT QUITE SO HIGH. FOR A MAN THE HOSPITAL STAFF SAID WAS
DYING AND FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS WERE MADE HE IS DOING DARN GOOD. SO
MANY CVC MEMBERS THERE TO SUPPORT US THEN AND CONTINUE TO DO SO. ON THE
ANNIVERSARY OF THAT SCARY TIME, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED CARING.
MEMBERS OF CVC ARE THE BEST.
6. CHARLIE AND KIM HAVE BEEN BUSY TRAVELING THE EAST COAST, STARTING IN NEW
YORK THEN CRUISING UP THE COAST FROM BOSTON TO QUEBEC, NOVA SCOTIAAND
PRINCE EDWARDS ISLAND. AFTER THE CRUISETHEY FLEW TO NIAGARA FALLS AND
FINISHED THEIR TRIP IN TORONTO. THIS PAST WEEKEND KIM AND CHARLIE CELEBRATED
HER BIRTHDAY IN SHELL BEACH WITH CHARLIE’S SISTER DEBBIE WHO HAPPENS TO SHARE
KIM’S BIRTHDAY. IN FACT,THEY WERE ACTUALLY BORN ON THE SAME DAY IN FRESNO
COMMUNITY HOSPITAL. IT HAS BEEN A VERY BUSY TIME, BUT A LOT OF FUN.
7. CONGRATLATIONS ARE IN ORDER! SCOTT PARKIN AND AIMEE ARE GETTING MARRIED
ON NOVEMBER 14 AND GUESS WHAT? WE ARE ALL INVITED TO THE RECEPTION. A
FLYER HAS BEEN SENT TO MEMBERS, PLEASE CHECK FOR DETAILS.
8. AND LASTLY, GARY AND I HAVE SOME NEWS TO SHARE. ON SEPTEMBER 27 THROUGH
OCTOBER 5, WE VACATIONED IN ISTANBUL AND GREECE AND THE GRECIAN ISLANDS. IT
WAS VERY INTERESTING TO VISIT THE RUINS OF GREECE AND LEARN HOW THE
GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO RESTORE THE RUINS. WE LEARNED THE COUNTRY OF
GREECE IS STEEPED IN THEIR RELIGIONS. WE RENTED AN ATV AND DROVE AROUND THE
ISLAND SOAKING UP CULTURE AND TRADITIONS. WE LEARNED THAT GRAPES ARE
GROWN ON THE GROUND (NOT STAKED) AND NEVER WATERED. THEIR MAIN PRODUCTS
PRODUCED IS OLIVE OIL. GREECE IS TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON TOURISTS FOR THEIR
INCOME. ……UPON RETURNING HOME, WE RECEIVED A NOTICE THAT MY
GRANDAUGHER, MEGAN WHO IS A STUDENT AT UC DAVIS,HAS RECEIVED ALL-AMERICAN
HONORS FOR STUDENT-ATHLETE FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-15. ALL AMERICANS
MUST CARRY A 3.5 GPA OR HIGHER TO RECEIVE THIS RECONITION.

‘In the Garage’ with Charlie Fosnaugh
Veterans Invited to Recognition Event at National Corvette Museum and NCM Motorsports Park
November is Military Appreciation Month at the National Corvette Museum
and on Thursday, November 5 the Museum and NCM Motorsports Park are
hosting a special recognition day for veterans and wounded warriors as part
of the 7th Annual Vets ‘n Vettes event presented by Mobil 1. Veterans are
invited to come to the NCM Motorsports Park at 505 Grimes Road (just off
Porter Pike) between 9:30am and 11:30am for complimentary rides around
the track in Corvettes. No RSVPs are required. Following the Corvette laps,
a Veterans luncheon will be held in the Museum’s Conference Center at
12pm. The lunch is free to veterans and their spouse and will feature a
buffet lunch, presentation of colors, wounded warriors from Fort Campbell
and Fort Knox, and special speaker Gerald York (grandson of Sergeant
Alvin York). All luncheon guests must RSVP by Friday, October 30 by
calling either Karen Renfrow at 270-467-8804 or Bryce Burklow at 270-
777-4506. In celebration and recognition of those who have served, the
Museum offers FREE admission to all American military veterans, as well
as police and fire fighters, plus their immediate accompanying family during
the month of November. Simply show proof of service at the admissions
counter to receive complimentary admission. The Museum is located at I-
65, exit 28 in Bowling Green, KY and is open daily, 8am-5pm Central
