OHL, in the heart of Downtown Kingston! As always, we have some
very special events planned for the 2015-16 season, beginning with
the Home Opener presented by Leon’s and extending through the
entire season. Our theme nights this season include a special Pink
in the Rink game with a commemorative jersey, our annual Remembrance
Day game, our Teddy Bear Toss Game in support of the Toy
Drive, a visit by the Toronto Maple Leafs Game Crew, Military Appreciation
Night, StarWars Night, SuperHeroes Night, and more.
Your experience is very important to our entire organization. Our goal
is to make sure that experience meets your expectations, and we take
great effort in delivering the entertainment and in-game experience

The start of each new season is
always an exciting time. Fans
who have missed going to the
rink to watch their favourite sport and
cheer on their home team during the
long summer are anxious to return.
Each new season begins in earnest,
with renewed hope and optimism.
This season, the Kingston
Frontenacs will have as many as seven
rookies on the roster this year, and for
them it is an especially exciting time.
The Frontenacs owned three picks
in the first two rounds of the 2015
OHL Priority Selection Draft and
selected Robbie Burt with the 11th
pick in the first round.
ROBBIE BURT is a 5’11” 209 lbs.
power forward who likes to hit and
score goals. He made his presence
felt in the training camp scrimmages
scoring a few goals on a line with third
year forward and Florida Panthers
first round draft pick Lawson Crouse.
Burt likes to model his game after
current NHL star Rick Nash and has
spent the past few summers being
coached by former NHL star and
Toronto Maple Leaf legend Wendel
Clark. The rookie Frontenac got to
meet another Maple Leaf legend after
he was drafted by Kingston as he
quickly made the trip from Hillsburgh,
Ontario to Kingston on draft day to
meet the team and have dinner with
General Manager Doug Gilmour.
The Frontenacs scouts have done
an admirable job with their first
round picks over the past few years,
selecting future NHL stars such as
Erik Gudbranson, Roland McKeown,
Sam Bennett, and Lawson Crouse.
Burt has the tools to follow in their
footsteps.
Jacob Paquette and Jakob
Brahaney were selected 31st and 37th
respectively in the second round. Along
with Burt and Frontenacs Head Coach
Paul McFarland, they were back on
the ice a little early this summer with
invitations to participate in the Team
Canada tryouts for the U17 team in
Calgary, Alberta.
On draft day, JACOB PAQUETTE
was following the OHL Priority
Selection online with his family,
consisting of his mom and dad, older
brother and twin Sam, who would also
go on to be selected by the Kingston
Frontenacs. Paquette is an Ottawa
native and played last season with the
Ottawa Junior 67’s, who played for the
OHL Cup.
Paquette is a big defensive
defenceman who models his game after
Nashville Predators star Shea Weber.
He has a good shot, plays physical but
is more of a penalty kill specialist than
a power play quarterback.

JAKOB BRAHANEY, who was
selected in the second round.
Brahaney is a two-way defenceman
who enjoys rushing the puck and
joining the rush, or making a good
first pass to the forwards while
still being reliable in his own end.
He models his game after Anaheim
Ducks defender Hampus Lindholm.
Brahaney had a busy off-season
in his home town of Campbellford,
Ontario by waking up at six five
days a week for workouts before
going to his summer job at No-Frills,
as well as on ice training with a
power skating coach. Brahaney had
a chance to get reacquainted with
Burt at the Team Canada tryout
camp who he played with previously
in summer tournaments.
“It was really neat to get that
Team Canada experience under my
belt, you grow up watching them,
cheering and dreaming and nobody
thinks it’s going to be a reality,” said
Brahaney.
The Frontenacs did not own a
pick in the third round and their
next selection would be Jason
Robertson with pick 62 in the fourth
round.
JASON ROBERTSON was
born and raised in California for
the first ten years of his life before
moving to Michigan where his
family now lives. Last season he
played in Toronto for the Don Mills
Flyers and went to the OHL Cup
finals. This summer he was drafted
twice, by Kingston in the OHL
Priority Selection, and in the fifth
round of the USHL draft.
“I always saw the OHL as a
great route to get to the NHL,
and I thought the OHL was the
best choice,” said Robertson of his
decision to choose the OHL over the
USHL or the NCAA College route.
Robertson calls his game more
cerebral than flashy, but the humble
left winger showed plenty of flash in
training camp scrimmages as the
tournament leading scorer notching
an impressive ten points in four
games. At 6’1” and 179 lbs., the left

winger models his game after
future Hall of Famer Jaromir
Jagr.
Kingston took a chance on 18
year old Jacob Drobczyk with the
250th pick in the 13th round, and
he has rewarded them with his
commitment to the team.
JACOB DROBCZYK is
another big power forward type
player who styles his game after
Jamie Benn who led the NHL
in scoring. The 6’2” 192 pound
centre already has the size to play
on one of the top two lines and his
79 points in 71 games suggests he
has the skill to back it up.
Drobczyk was also drafted
in the USHL, but was surprised
to learn he was also drafted in
the OHL by Kingston. As an 18
year old, he has only two years of
eligibility remaining in his career
and having played two years in
prep school, college seemed the
likely option.
“Being from Barrie, the OHL
was always right there, just
seeing the lifestyle always made
me want to come to the OHL,”
said Drobczyk. “I just thought I
would sign somewhere as a free
agent, it’s always a kid’s dream
to get drafted.”
The Barrie native would have
started the season off one way
or another on September 25th,
but his family will have to cheer
for the Frontenacs rather than

Barrie now. “It’s good we play
them first game at home, then a
week later in Barrie. My brothers
will still be loyal to Barrie but
we’ll have to push them towards
Kingston more now” Drobczyk
said.
Two other later round picks
from the 2014 draft will also look
to make their debut a year later
in Ryan Cranford and Austin
Grzenia who were selected 195th
and 215th overall.
RYAN CRANFORD came
to camp this year with more
confidence than last after playing
last year with the Ottawa Junior
Sens with 20 year olds and try
to play his game like New York
Rangers winger Rick Nash.
AUSTIN GRZENIA was
looking to play in college this
year but didn’t pass up on the
opportunity to play in the OHL
with the Frontenacs.
“When Kingston offered me
(a chance to play) I took it right
away, I wasn’t going to pass up
the chance.” said Grzenia. “My
dream was to play in the OHL.”
The six foot 170 lbs. Illinois
native plays his game like Milan
Lucic “I like to play gritty, I’m
a goal scorer. I won’t be afraid
to stick up for my teammates if
I have to. I’ll be looking to make
some big hits out there, get the
crowd going, and maybe get into
a fight or two.” KF

The Kingston Frontenacs
OHL franchise we know
today came into existence
in 1973 when the team joined the
major junior ranks as the Kingston
Canadians. The franchise was
known as the Canadians for 15
years, and were briefly called the
Kingston Raiders for one season
before reclaiming their heritage,
and once more became known as
the Kingston Frontenacs.
Let’s look back on some of the
history of the Kingston Frontenacs.
There have actually been a
number of teams in a variety of
leagues to bear the moniker of
Kingston Frontenacs dating as far
back as 1896.
In the 1910s there were two
Kingston Frontenacs teams
competing in the Ontario Hockey
Association (OHA) junior and
senior leagues with the junior team
winning a championship in 1911.
Kingston is known as a military
community for its historically
strategic location and fortifications
such as Fort Henry. In 1943 the
Canadian Army had a senior team
in the OHA called the Kingston
Army Frontenacs, but after an 11-5-
0 record were ordered to withdraw
from civilian leagues on January
14, 1944.
The Eastern Professional
Hockey League (EPHL) existed for
four seasons from 1959 to 1963.
During those years the Boston
Bruins owned an EHPL farm team
known as the Kingston Frontenacs.
These Frontenacs adopted the
Bruins colours and a modified logo
(one that would be resurrected in
the late 1980s with the renamed
Kingston Frontenacs OHL
franchise).
The mark the Kingston
Frontenacs of the EPHL would
leave a on hockey fans in Kingston
was immedite, beginning with their
first game, a 4-0 exhibition loss
against the NHL’s Boston Bruins
in front of 3,646 fans.
That original EPHL team in ‘59
included Willy O’Ree, who in 1958
became the first black player in
the NHL when he played for the
Bruins. In that first season with
the Frontenacs, O’Ree would score
20 goals in 60 games before being
called up by the Bruins where he
would tally 14 points in 43 games.
While the Kingston Frontenacs
provided exciting hockey, the
team’s dominance wouldn’t happen
until the signing of Wren Blair as
Head Coach and General Manager
beginning with the 1960-61 season.
Blair had a reputation for
building champions, having guided
the Whitby Dunlops to World

1958.
As coach and GM of the
Frontenacs for the 1962-63 season,
Blair saw a sparkle in three
training camp rookies, signing Dick
Cherry, Tommy Williams, and Tom
McCarthy.
The following season, the team
coached and managed by Blair,
with a roster that included Cherry,
Harry Sinden, Jean-Paul Parise,
Ed Westfall, and Bruce Gamble,
would go on to finish one point
out of first place at the end of the
regular season but win the league
championship best-of-seven series
in five games.
The league would fold following
that championship season, and the
Kingston Frontenacs team name
would stay dormant for over twenty
years.
The current Kingston
Frontenacs franchise has deep roots
in the EPHL team beyond the name
and logo. In 1989, after their single
season as the Kingston Raiders,
the OHL franchise in Kingston was
owned by Wren Blair.
Dick Cherry, member of the
EPHL championship Frontenacs
has assumed a number of roles with
the franchise, including Assistant
Coach, and his longest tenure as a

For the third straight season, if
Kingston Frontenacs are hard
to spot on the ice for their Remembrance
Day game tonight vs.
North Bay Battalion, it’s by design.
The Frontenacs, in partnership
with Reebok/CCM have unveiled an
update to their special CADPAT Camo
uniform the team will wear in games
on Friday, November 6, 2015 and Friday,
February 26, 2016, for Remembrance
Day and Salute the Troops
respectively. The uniform—complete
with jersey and socks, is CADPAT
Camouflage, the pattern used by the
Canadian Forces.
While the changes to the 2015-16
version are subtle, they enhance the
whole uniform look by incorporating
the Canadian flag on the jersey’s left
shoulder and the poppy on the right
shoulder. The sock have been redesigned
to imitate the look of Combat
Boots when worn with skates.
The special game-worn jerseys will
be auctioned off online in March after
the second of two special games, with
net proceeds being donated to the
Kingston Military Family Resource
Centre (KMFRC), RMC Foundation,
and the Poppy Memorial Travel Fund.
The program includes a limited supply
of the replica jersey for sale with
a portion of the net proceeds to be donated
to the three causes.

proud of our military roots, the soldiers
who serve, and the military families
who help form the heart of Kingston,”
said Justin Chenier, Executive
Director of Business Operations for
the Kingston Frontenacs.
“Being able to honour our soldiers
and their families, year after year, is
a privilege to our club. Thanks to the
support of our sponsors, specifically
John and Heather Price from Sutton
Group Realty, we’ve been able to create
a program that will raise awareness
and some very important funds
that will help military families.”
For the Remembrance Day Game,
the pregame ceremonies again include
the RMC Colour Party and Pipers, the
Poppy Memorial, and a special puck
drop by new RMC Commandant, Brigadier-General
Sean Friday.
The Poppy Memorial was created
in honour and remembrance of the
158 soldiers and 3 civilians who made
the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan,
those who bravely returned home, and
our fallen families. It has been designed
in such a way as to be mobile,
so it can be brought to our soldiers and
their families. Each piece of the memorial
is from a vehicle that suffered
an IED strike in Afghanistan. The
poppies adorned on the monument
are those from the final Remembrance
Day ceremony at Kandahar Airfield in
Afghanistan. They have been bronzed
and mounted on the Memorial, one for
each of our fallen.
The Kingston Frontenacs have
worked with a number of local business
to bring more troops and military
families to this game, including John
and Heather Price from Sutton Group
Realty, StarTek, ScotiaBank, Oxford
Learning, Novelis, G. Williams Paving,
and Findlay Foods.
“Our partners have been so supportive
in helping us extend the invitation
to the military community in
ways we just couldn’t do on our own,”
said Chenier.

for these troops and their families

As a member of the Soo Greyhounds, John Goodwin lead the league in scoring in the
1980-81 season and in turn won the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy and the William
Hanley Trophy as the most sportsmanlike player. After his OHL career, Goodwin
played five full seasons in the American Hockey League . From 1997 to 2000 he was
Head Coach of the Oshawa Generals. He was Assistant Coach with the North Bay
Batallion before joining the Kingston Frontenacs for the 2014-15 season.

Darren Keily enters his 20th season in the OHL. Prior to his seven seasons with
the Kingston Frontenacs, he spent eight years with legendary OHL coach Bert
Templeton in Barrie and Sudbury, before moving on to a role as Assistant Coach
and Assistant GM in Peterborough, where he spent five years and won an OHL
Championship in 2005-06.
PAUL MCFARLAND
ROLE: HEAD COACH
HOMETOWN: BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO
Paul McFarland joined the Frontenacs for the 2014-15 season after two
seasons as Assistant Coach with the Oshawa Generals. He spent four seasons
as a player in the OHL, beginning with the Kitchener Rangers in 2002-2003,
and winning an OHL Championship and Memorial Cup in 2003. He finished
his OHL playing career as Team Captain for the Windsor Spitfires during the
2004-2005 season.
DOUG GILMOUR
ROLE: GENERAL MANAGER
HOMETOWN: KINGSTON, ONTARIO
Doug Gilmour is a hockey icon, especially in Ontario and his hometown of
Kingston. Gilmour played in 1,474 career NHL games in Calgary, Toronto, New
Jersey, Chicago, Buffalo and Montreal, scoring 450 goals, 964 assists for
1,414 career points and one Stanley Cup Championship. Gilmour coached the
Frontenacs for two and a half seasons, before moving up to the role of General
Manager for the 2011-12 season.
RYAN BENNETT
ROLE: ATHLETIC THERAPIST
HOMETOWN: BELLEVILLE, ONTARIO
Ryan Bennett spent eigth season as Athletic Therapist with the Belleville
Bulls prior to joining the Frontenacs for the 2015-16 season. He is a graduate
of Brock University and Sheridan College and has formerly worked with the
Toronto Roadrunners, Hamilton Bulldogs, and Erie Otters. He also represented
Canada in the 2010 World U18 Hockey Championships. He lives in Kingston
with his wife Sarah and daughter Shelby.
CHRIS COOK
ROLE: EQUIPMENT MANAGER
HOMETOWN: OTTAWA, ONTARIO
Chris Cook joins the Kingston Frontenacs after having spent 12 seasons as
an Equipment Manager with the Ottawa Senators. He has also worked as
Assistant Equipment Manager with the Carleton University Ravens Football
Program. He is a graduate of Algonquin College’s Recreation Facilities
Management program.
