DST has sanctioned a grant of Rs.<br />
1.35 crore under the scheme of<br />
Rural Women Technology Park<br />
(RWTP) to set up a Women<br />
Technology park at B.V.R.I.T,<br />
Vishnupur village, Narsapur,<br />
Medak District, Telangana.<br />
The Principal Investigator is Dr. E.<br />
Laxmi Narsaiah and the coinvestigators<br />
are Dr. G B.<br />
Radhika, Dr. T.Chandrabai, Mr. J<br />
Bangarraju, Dr. B Venkata Swamy<br />
and Mr. J Venkata Ramana. It is<br />
believed that the Women<br />
Technology will act as a resource<br />
centre where all necessary<br />
support will be made available to<br />
women from a single platform<br />
for improving the socioeconomic<br />
quality of life. This<br />
would act as window for<br />
providing information, creating<br />
awareness, giving training for<br />
appropriate technologies leading<br />
to skill upgradation and will also<br />
help in establishing the all<br />
forward and backward linkages<br />
for income gen<strong>era</strong>tion through<br />
micro enterprises for women.<br />
About 1000 women along with<br />
their families in and around<br />
Narsapur are expected to get<br />
benefit in improving their socio<br />
economic conditions and<br />
livelihoods. The arenas in which<br />
these people are going to be<br />
trained are:<br />
Cultivation of Dry Land<br />
Crops and Developing<br />
Value Added Products<br />
Production of exotic<br />
flowers through<br />
Greenhouse cultivation<br />
Non Timber Forest<br />
Products (NTFP) based<br />
livelihood interventions<br />
Interventions in Handloom<br />
and Handicrafts<br />
Introduction of mixed farming<br />
systems and developing value<br />
added products like Coarse<br />
cereal based foods.<br />
Production of flowers like rose,<br />
gerb<strong>era</strong> and carnation under<br />
controlled conditions/<br />
Polyhouses.<br />
Training will be carried out for the<br />
cultivation of hill brooms and processing<br />
/value addition to increase the market<br />
value. Making value added products from<br />
Butea monosperma (Modhugu).<br />
Computer Aided Designing will<br />
be introduced for design<br />
diversification and "Asu" making<br />
machine will be promoted in<br />
weaving for drudgery reduction.<br />
