RURAL WOMEN
TECHNOLOGY
PARK
(RWTP) – DST
A QUARTERLY NEWS PUBLICATION FROM SRI VISHNU EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY
DST has sanctioned a grant of Rs.
1.35 crore under the scheme of
Rural Women Technology Park
(RWTP) to set up a Women
Technology park at B.V.R.I.T,
Vishnupur village, Narsapur,
Medak District, Telangana.
The Principal Investigator is Dr. E.
Laxmi Narsaiah and the coinvestigators
are Dr. G B.
Radhika, Dr. T.Chandrabai, Mr. J
Bangarraju, Dr. B Venkata Swamy
and Mr. J Venkata Ramana. It is
believed that the Women
Technology will act as a resource
centre where all necessary
support will be made available to
women from a single platform
for improving the socioeconomic
quality of life. This
would act as window for
providing information, creating
awareness, giving training for
appropriate technologies leading
to skill upgradation and will also
help in establishing the all
forward and backward linkages
for income generation through
micro enterprises for women.
About 1000 women along with
their families in and around
Narsapur are expected to get
benefit in improving their socio
economic conditions and
livelihoods. The arenas in which
these people are going to be
trained are:
Cultivation of Dry Land
Crops and Developing
Value Added Products
Production of exotic
flowers through
Greenhouse cultivation
Non Timber Forest
Products (NTFP) based
livelihood interventions
Interventions in Handloom
and Handicrafts
Introduction of mixed farming
systems and developing value
added products like Coarse
cereal based foods.
Production of flowers like rose,
gerbera and carnation under
controlled conditions/
Polyhouses.
Training will be carried out for the
cultivation of hill brooms and processing
/value addition to increase the market
value. Making value added products from
Butea monosperma (Modhugu).
Computer Aided Designing will
be introduced for design
diversification and "Asu" making
machine will be promoted in
weaving for drudgery reduction.
