Testimonials
… from workshop participants in 2016…
“Participating in Dinka Spirovska’s workshop was a breakthrough experience. I learned a lot about the
importance of visuals in the teaching and learning process. More importantly, I gained a much better
understanding of how to employ visual communication in my lectures and presentations.”
− Diego Lucci, Ph.D., Professor of History and Philosophy
"Being a teacher of languages, I naturally tend stick to the letters. Dinka opened my eyes to the visual world:
she made me aware how much I can teach using visuals, and showed me how to incorporate visual elements in
my presentations and other classroom activities. Moreover, I feel now more competent when discussing the
presentations of my students addressing their degree of literacy and using appropriate terminology."
− Sabina A. Wien, Modern Languages Instructor
“I attended the visual literacy course for university faculty and found it very informative. Students today live
primarily on the visual level with the technology that is available, and faculty need to keep up with such
transformational changes. Professor Spirovska did an excellent job in outlining the evolution of visual literacy
and visualization, the techniques and various tools that are available and how to utilize these so that you can
enrich, not only presentations, but the entire learning process.”
− Arthur Pantelides, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Strategic Management
“Participating in the workshop was a great opportunity for me to enhance my knowledge on the matter. It
helped me fill some gaps and gave me new insights on how to build interesting and engaging visual materials.
In addition to this, I was able to learn how to “read” pictures and tell what message they bring without being
given any text. The instructor, with her burning passion and enthusiasm, made me feel comfortable and
confident that I myself can start creating impressive things from scratch. This workshop inspired me to choose
a topic for my masters’ senior thesis and further deepen my knowledge on Visual Literacy.
− Gergana Atanasova, Academic Librarian
