On The Cover
This week’s issue is dedicated
to the great outdoors in
the Palm Springs valley area.
From spectacular mountain
vistas, waterfalls, natural
streams, fantastic rocky gorges, and rock
formations. Our clean desert air and water,
giant palm trees, and an alpine wilderness
creates an atmosphere that enhances our dayto-day
experience all year round. The cover
says “I’m a real proponent of graffiti within
the community” love it or hate it, the reality
is graffiti and art projects for public spaces
actually serve to prevent graffiti vandalism
on public property. If you have ever tagged
a wall or can remember what “Killroy was
here” meant or grew up next to a gigantic
milk-bottle you, will get the cover (a staged
photo with Adrian and visitor Roger.) But
this issue looks at some of the usual and
not so usual images, things, and hikes on all
levels of terrain designed for outdoor enthusiasts
to experience a spectacular stay here
even more fun and memorable than you can
The festival, which will run from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. Jan. 26-29, will bring together about
250 artists from all over the U.S. and Mexico
who work in every medium from textiles and
jewelry, to paint and clay, according to Josh
Bonner, president and CEO of the Greater
Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce.
More than 500 applications were submitted
to the independent board that blindly scores
and selects the artists to be featured, so Bonner
ensured the event will truly feature the
best of the best.
The festival will be open to the public from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 26, 27, 28 and 29 at
the Empire Polo Club.
Tickets cost $12 for general admission and
$15 for a four-day pass including parking.
Seniors can buy tickets for $10 and children
under 14 can get in for free. Guests are asked
not to bring any pets except for those that are
designated service animals.
Tickets can be purchased at
Also this week, a new secret riddle starts on
page 3 (below) and if you can answer it, let
us know and we will pick a winner at random
for a $40 certificate at Rio Azul, one of
ARTIST AGAINST TRUMP
The poster of President Obama that became
an iconic symbol of his election with the
title, “ HOPE” as the slogan, was designed
by Shepard Fairey. The photo Fairey used to
create the image of Obama was a photo taken
by a freelance photographer who worked
for the Associated Press. He created the
poster in a single day. The first slogan on
the poster was “Progress”, which was later
changed to “Hope” at the request of the
Obama campaign. Fairey has designed
posters for the Trump coronation, not at
the request of the Trump people, but for
the emphasis of all people, especially those
who have been threatened by the Trump
himself. Muslims, Women, Hispanics, and
Gays. Some samples of his posters for this
political season are in this article
Education Not Deportation,
Muslim Rights are Human Rights, which
can also substitue LGBT rights, Immigrant
Rights, Black Rights, Women’s Rights, etc.
Black Lives Matter
Show me what Democracy Look Like/This
is What Democracy Looks Like.. This is a
suggested chant for rallies that will be held
after the coronation. It reminds those who
are listening that democracy is meaningless
without the right to peaceful assembly. It
can be done in a syncopated rhythm that
gives emphasis to the importance of protest
rights.
We look forward to seeing what the creative
LGBT community in Palm Springs submits.
They will be printed in this article after the
Fairey will not be designing a poster for the
be for such a poster? “DESPAIR”,
“HATE TRUMPS LOVE”. We have invited
readers of the Daily Guide to submit
slogans or graphics to represent the Trump
JERSEY’S JOURNAL by jersey Shore
When I was born, I weighed about 5 pounds.
I WAS a little thing, idk what happened. I
also was a miracle baby. My mother was told
after my brother’s birth she couldn’t have
kids. And on that one hot night in June, I
guess my parents got a little hot under the
collar, and made that special concoction
called Jersey Shore. So there, laugh all you
want, I was a miracle. It’s a miracle I’m still
prancing around like I do! Just call me Miracle,
but don’t call me Miracle Whip. I guess
Miracle Whip won’t call me up to promote
their product. Any Medical Marijuana pharmacies
may reach me with a contact high or
hello.
We all have our vices. Things we need to
remain human. Whether it’s pot or pot
roast. For some it’s candy and for others
it’s crack. Whatever you need, whether you
need it or not, whenever you need it. Good
or Bad? We all have needs. In my opinion,
I think our biggest need is to be loved and
accepted. My quick advice on that matter:
Quit worrying about being loved and you
will eventually be loved. A positive attitude
gets you everywhere. Positive inner
thoughts. Say it repeatedly. Have you caught
on yet? I feel like a broken record for some. I
have been meeting people who actually read
this, as you are now!
The man I met in the bikini and the beard,
at Georgie’s made me realize this column
is actually read, as he quoted something
about glittered bearded “drag queens”. So,
next time you are out and about, looking
great in your bikini, usually on a Tuesday
Cabaret or Sunday Brunch, say hello and
tell me you read this column. You don’t have
to like it. You don’t have to quote things.
FACT: I don’t remember anything I write.
I get inspired, I type it out, and I correct
grammar and spelling (?), and then email it
out. I write a new article every week and I
don’t keep track of past articles. PLUS, I’m
a depressed pothead with anxiety issues. I
can’t remember 5 minutes ago.
Thank you my kind readers and your kind
Peace, Love, and Gratitude,
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Just leaving the Democratic National Committee
Future Forum meeting in Phoenix.
This was the first opportunity to hear from
the 7 candidates for DNC chair. The election
will be held in Atlanta in February.
It was very interesting. Full bore campaigns
with hosted lunches and receptions. The
most important was getting one in one time
with several of the candidates; including Secretary
of Labor Tom Perez and Congressman
Keith Ellison. 7 candidates. Of them 2 are
gay, 2 are women, 2 are African American,
one Latino and one Muslim. Quite the
breadth of our nation!
I was able to have face time with 4 of them
and am hopeful for at least a call with the
other 3 prior to my vote. This person will
lead the Party for next four years. All the
other positions are being voted on as well, but
this will be the most critical.
Everyone had some good ideas. We would be
fortunate to have any of them in a leadership
role. I must admit being a tad intimidated
when I left the hotel suite to walk down to the
conference with Secretary Perez and being
enveloped by Secret Service!
Locally this week saw lawsuits and Counter-suits
being filed in Palm Springs by various
land developers and a couple auto dealers
threatening city council members over marijuana.
Sigh. Drama still lives amongst the
straight folk!
Waiting to see if College of the Desert is
finally able to take possession of the old mall
for their expansion. In Cathedral City, COD
is looking at moving their automotive trade
school programs over. This would be a big
support for our expansion
What are you doing? How was your summer?
Enjoying the rain? Speaking of, no more
drought!!! Northern CA is now officially out
of the drought, we here in the South need one
more good storm. It has been nice but I’m
tire of being cold - HA!
It has shown the need for needed road work.
Cathedral Canyon was closed again. That
new bridge will start construction by end of
year as well as the Date Palm bridge. It will be
so nice having those done. Even better is they
are fully funded and paid for!
The 2nd annual Taste of Jalisco is coming to
Cathedral City in early February. You know
what means ---- Tequila! Check out www.
discovercathedralcity.com for details
That’s it for this week - let me know your
