EVOLUTION
FAB4 PRODUCTIONS, THE COMPANY THAT PUBLISHED THE 1 ST
FREE ONLINE AND PRINTED NEWSMAGAZINE IN THE PHILIPPINES,
VILLAGE PIPOL, WAS ESTABLISHED ON OCTOBER 2007. #CHEERS!
February “Hearts Month” is lover’s month or a time to be bitter about love lost, love
lacking or love gone cold.
We find the malls littered with heart-shaped goods and think about what we don’t
have. We see happy couples on dates and, if we’re being honest, have trouble wishing
them well.
It seems that almost every other day of the year, the majority of us are content with
being romantically uninvolved, but on this Vday, all the single people become slightly
uncomfortable with the idea of being alone.
Perhaps the key to being happy on this day, regardless of whether or not you have a
significant other, is to treat this day as a day to celebrate the people you love in your
life. There is no rule that says that Valentine’s Day is for lovers; there is no doctrine
stating that the love celebrated must be the romantic kind, despite the popular
narrative.
So this Valentine’s Day, buy your friend a card, send flowers to your parents or
buy chocolates for your best friends, or even greet your enemies. Whether you’re
celebrating Valentine’s Day, going on a date or spenting time alone, we at Village
Pipol hope your month is filled with love … even if it is just from your dog.
Happy Love Month Villagers!
Thrifty Traveller – Travel Tips for the Thrifty and still looking FAB!
MACAU & HONGKONG
Gambling and Shopping Capital of Asia! • PART 2!
Special 2 City Tour Challenge – 3 Pax for 6 Days for less than 60K!
Extra Challenge Edition for our Thrifty Traveller Episode to kick-start 2017!
I will walk thru uncharted territory and try the impossible! Travel to (2)
two destinations with (2) Trolls on a budget but ofcourse still fabulous!
Cut the story short I was forced by my Trolls, namely Jayroh and Kyle to
be part of my Journey and be featured in my article, FINE!
DAY
3
Hong Kong (Boat Trip)
Hate waking up early but being the tour guide for this trip, I
had to make some sacrifices to make the kids happy on their 1 st
HK Adventure! Took the TurboJet Express Ferry which will take
approximately an hour.
Arrived before noon and went straight to our hotel 60 West Hotel in Sheung Wan
very near Central which is HK’s Business District. Got the room from Agoda.com
and was not expecting much, but lo and behold, when we entered the room, it was
almost as big as the Venetian rooms in Macau! Refreshed, took the boys to town and
walked thru the hustle and bustle streets of HK where they marveled at the beautiful
chaos.
Then off to our 1 st tourist destination, The Ngong Ping 360 a cable car on Lantau
Island that crosses a vast river that goes around huge mountain top that provides an
amazing view of HK. A 30 min ride that will take you to dizzying heights that will be
any acrophobia’s nightmare.
This is home to the Po Lin Monastery and the Tian Tan Buddha, both already
significant tourist attractions in their own right. The monastery was founded in 1906
by three monks visiting from Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland and was
initially known simply as “The Big Hut” (Tai Mao Pung). It was renamed to its present
name in 1924. The main temple houses three bronze statues of the Buddha –
representing his past, present and future lives – as well as many Buddhist scriptures.
The statue is sited near Po Lin Monastery and symbolises the harmonious
relationship between man and nature, people and faith. It is a major centre of
Buddhism in Hong Kong, and is also a popular tourist attraction.
Cramming everything on our 1st day (boat trip, city tour, nong ping, pictorial) made
our body sore to the bones! But our day didn’t stop there, why? Because I still have
to fulfill my yaya duties and tour them in the CityGate Factory Outlet where you can
find super duper big discounts on various brands. WTF!!!
So after a long day, its time to rest in peace!
TOTAL SPENT
Food Php 2,000.00 | Transportation Php 4,000.00
Sub-Total Php 6,000.00
DAY
4
Disney Day (Amusement Park)
The kids are excited because today is DisneyLand Day! Remember
Thrifty Travellers that you need to allocate 1 whole day to fully enjoy
(not even enough) the rides and sites at Disney.
Tips : Go on a weekdays period! If not suffer from the hours of falling in line for 1
freakin ride!
Obligatory pose at the surfing mickey on top of noah’s check! Strike a pose infront
of Cinderella’s castle, check! Carousel pictorial, check! Pose at every possible area in
Disney is what dreams are made of for photo whores like us!
Disney is such a magical place that even if I have been here for what, 10 times, I still
feel the little kid excitement every time. Accompanied by 1st time Disney kids makes
the experience more magical!
Getting older though has its drawback as I now easily get freakin dizzy riding the
attractions! Ended the day by watching the fireworks!
TOTAL SPENT
Entrance Fee Php 3,500.00 x 3 Php 10,500.00 | Food Php 4,000.00
Shopping Php 5,000.00 | Transportation Php 500.00
Sub-Total Php 20,000.00
DAY
5
HK City Tour!
Rush rush as we are going back to Macau in the afternoon and
made a quick double decker bus City Tour and showed the place
around to my curious wanderers.
This is the shortest HK experience I had ever and I don’t like it! No time to go and
tour my alagas to Victoria Peak, Ocean Park or even go shopping in central or
mongkok!
But hey that gives me another reason to start planning another travel with the fellas.
So after eating lunch, rushed to back to the ferry to bid HK farewell! Back in Macau,
checked in for the last time at the fabulous venetian and without wasting any time
toured the casino before calling it a night.
Day 6 actually cannot count as our flight is early in the morning BUMMER! I’m not
used to this type of rush travel but having this 2 fun companions of mine made the
hectic travel sched all worth it!
TOTAL SPENT
Hotel Php 5,000.00 | Transporation Php 4,000.00
Food Php 2,000.00 | Taxi Rental FREE Hotel to Hotel Bus
Sub-Total Php 11,000.00
GRAND TOTAL SPENT – PHP 52,000.00 of
PHP 60,000.00 or (86%) of max spent!
Extra Challenge 2 City Tour (Macau and Hong Kong) truly tested my
Thriftiness and I surpassed my expectations! So do you believe me now
when I say that being Thrifty and Looking Fabulous works?
Till our next Thrifty Traveller Episode! Ciao for now!

Relik Tapas Bar &
Lounge: Rustic &
Chic Resto
If you work around the area of BGC you’ll definitely want to
give Relik a try! by Jean Dalida / Photos courtesy of Frame Rivas
If you want to enjoy good and interesting food, chill vibe in a fancy looking place
without inflicting any serious damage in your wallets, Relik Tapas Bar & Lounge is the
place to be. It’s known for their terrific array of tapas presented in less familiar ways.
The Place
Rustic, shabby chic, unmatchy-matchy interior. Dimly lit yet spacious, Relik
Tapas presents a nostalgic theme that makes you feel like you are living in the
80’s (or earlier) but marked with a slight modern twist. This is the kind of place
that encourages you to languish with friends over tapas and sangria, becoming
unavailable to the outside world, even for just a few hours.
The Food
But there’s much more to Relik than having cool
interiors. And that of course is their extensive
menu. Beautiful comfort food mostly plated on
big wooden chopping boards that add a touch of
“rustic-ness” to the whole experience.
If you work around the area of BGC you’ll definitely
want to give Relik a try!
Is your Vitamin C
Safe?
The New Year gives us another chance at a fresh start.
After the unhealthy lifestyle during the holidays, our immune system is just
starting to recuperate and get back to normal. One sure way to speed up
its recovery is to take optimum levels of Vitamin C. But did you know, that
when taking Vitamin C, we have to be careful of several factors such as
the type and quality of Vitamin C because not all vitamin C are the same!
The most common type of Vitamin C is ascorbic acid. This type of vitamin
C has been by far, the cheapest form of Vitamin C, but did you know
that when taken at higher quantities, ascorbic acid is not exempted from
harmful side effects. Diarrhea, Nausea, Stomach Cramps, Headache,
Hyperacidity, Hot flushes and Heartburn are just some of the symptoms of
taking too much ascorbic acid.
In the recent decade, Sodium Ascorbate has given the public the safest
and most effective type of vitamin C. Bewell-C (Sodium Ascorbate) is a
non-acidic Vitamin C supplement that is rapidly gaining popularity among
the public as a high quality and effective brand. Bewell-C is the next
generation vitamin C that provides all the benefits of vitamin C without
the risk of hyperacidity. Doctors recommend that we take 2 capsules per
day of Bewell-C. Some people require a higher dose per day if they are
experiencing the following:
Flu
People suffering from Flu virus are recommended to take 6 capsules of
Bewell-C per day and 4 capsules while recovering from flu. Whereas,
those who are suffering from colds and cough are recommended to take
at least 6 capsules until they have recovered. Research study also pointed
out that most healthy adults get a cold two or three times a year and
taking large doses of Vitamin C daily shortens the duration of colds.
TRAVEL•LIFESTYLE•ENTERTAINMENT
VP/HEALTH
Smokers and Alcohol Drinkers
Alcohol, Nicotine and other substance in cigarette causes cell damage
and drains vitamins and nutrition from your body. Smokers and those who
often drink alcohol experience lower immune system and are susceptible
to various diseases thus, they are required to take at least 4 capsules of
Bewell-C to help maintain their health.
Post-Surgery
People who underwent surgery are recommended to take high doses of
Vitamin C as much as 6 capsules Bewell-C daily to hasten wound healing.
Vitamin C is essential in the formation of new connective tissue in healing
wound. For those who need both Vitamin C and Calcium, Bewell-C plus
calcium is also available in the market. Just like Bewell-C, this product
also uses non-acidic vitamin C paired with organic calcium fortified with
Vitamin D for stronger bones and teeth.
Bewell-C and Bewell-C Plus Calcium is available in all leading drugstores
nationwide and on Lazada.com.ph Online Shopping: http://www.lazada.
The Quintessential
pia revilla speaks !
I want a boyfriend who..
will make me laugh!
Seriously, there are some people out there who can’t take a joke and never crack a smile.
Humour is necessary when looking for a potential boyfriend, especially if they have the
same sense of humor as you. Sometimes things just click and you get each other’s peculiar
humor, that’s definitely another reason to make them more than just a friend!
will give his full attention to me!
Nowadays we can never just talk to someone, we have to be on our phone at the same
time as well. If they give you their full undivided attention, then you should really consider
them.
will challenge ME!
You need someone that has a different perspective on life and that has
different views than you. If you both see things exactly the same way then
you won’t grow and learn together. You will learn to like different things and
maybe even something that you once hated.
has plans in life!
Things don’t always turn out the way we want them to, in fact, they never
play out exactly as you think. If someone doesn’t even try or is just content
with being stuck in a dead situation then they have no prospects. You need
someone that has some ambition and even if they might not be in the job
they want at the moment, they have a vision for their future.
will allow for moments of
long stares!
Focus on what your eyes and your partner’s eyes say through looks
of appreciation, fascination, and security can speak volumes of love.
Based upon how your partner stares at, learns about, and understands
you is a true indicator of why you are so very special to them.
Boyfriend Checklist
by: Jean Dalida
Nobody is perfect, but there are some things to look out for if you’re looking for a
boyfriend. There are small signs that you can look out for that make him a strong
candidate in keeping your heart, the one you can have as your *main!*
Here is the quintessential boyfriend checklist!
kyle vergara speaks!
I will be the man who..
will genuinely makes her laugh!
and make her belly laugh and choke on her own laughter and tear up with laughter and
laugh so hard that she might think she’s going to pee herself!
will make an effort to listen
to her!
without doing anything else, then let her know she can be honest with me
and I’ll definitely make all the effort to have a conversation with her.
will challenge her!
to be the better version of herself. I won’t be just a GUY around her.
I’ll be a man who will guide and tame her emotions when she’s
about to explode and break down.
will do & visualize things!
with a level of determination and belief that I’ll get where I wanted to
be. I’ll work my a*s off getting there.
will validate my girl,
warm her heart, and reveal a great sense of gratitude and comfort that she’s a part
of their life with the way i look at her. I will also make her feel that she’s everything
Why “La La Land”
is so good?
Director Damien Chazelle breathes fresh life into a much-maligned
genre by focusing on the visuals first, the song and dance second.
The movie musical is in a sorry shape these days. Think back a bit.
Name me good recent live-action musical. Don't you dare name Les
Misérables!
Once came out almost ten years ago, and that one tried its best to not
be a regular song-and-dance showcase. I will grant you Hairspray, which
was not exactly good, but it was kind of great if only for James Marsden's
amazing facial expressions and a fun final set piece. The truth is, looking
back, there probably hasn't been a great non-animated, honest-to-god
movie musical since Little Shop of Horrors, and that was 30 years ago!
Enter: La La Land.
Director Damien Chazelle, hot off his uniquely tense jazz drumming
thriller Whiplash, has paired together two of Hollywood's most charming
actors, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, for real damn musical. La La Land
opens with a giant musical sequence set on a stretch of elevated Los
Angeles highway and goes from there, telling the story of two young
artists striving to make it big while maintaining their artistic integrity
and holding together a relationship. It's got songs and dance numbers
aplenty, but it also has something too many musicals in the last 30 years
have lacked: strong visuals.
Musicals rely on song, of course, for their draw, but the fact remains:
Film is a visual medium. No amount of great songs will make a musical
great on screen. Just ask anyone who saw Dreamgirls. The best
movie musicals are often the best displays of visual inventiveness and
composure. They breathe life into the music through smart shot choices
and editing, through vivacious color palettes and staging. It's hard to
think of anything more depressing on screen than a great song blandly
staged, or brilliant choreography edited half to death so you can't even
see the performers' legs.
La La Land takes a more conservative approach, and is far less likely to
alienate certain audiences. It's also able to sustain its own whimsy for far
longer by being less brash. But it's not staid either. The film is about as
lively a visual experience as you'll find at the cinema. There are images
that won't leave your head, even well after seeing it. Well after much
of the music from the film begins to escape your recollection, in fact.
But when you think about it, what more could you possibly want in a
musical? Soundtracks are for listening to. A musical is for watching. La La
Land is the first musical in a very long time to understand that fact.
Serena Wins
Historic 23 RD
Major Title at The
Australian Open
Serena Williams has won her seventh Australian Open crown with a
6-4 6-4 victory over sister Venus Williams on Saturday night at Rod
Laver Arena.
Her 23rd major title passes Steffi Graf’s 22 as the most successful women’s
player in the Open era; Serena is now only one shy of Margaret Court’s
all-time record.
As the lights dimmed and the 35-year-old prepared to walk to the dais
to hoist the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup for a seventh time, Serena
changed into a pair of custom-made Michael Jordan-style Air 23 shoes.
The red and black Nikes were a fitting tribute to her remarkable
achievement after a final which started amid tension and finished with the
younger of the two siblings falling to the ground in jubilation, her hands
and feet planted on the blue hard court in front of her.
With the victory, Serena moves back to world No.1, dethroning Angelique
Kerber, the woman who denied her in last year’s Melbourne Park decider.
She has now won 23 of 29 major singles finals.
Older sister Venus, in her first Grand Slam decider since Wimbledon 2009,
has now lost eight of her past nine meetings with Serena, but will rise to
No.11 in the rankings after her best Australian Open showing since 2003,
when she was also runner-up to Serena. “This was a tough one. I just kept
praying and I’m here,” Serena said before paying tribute to her sister.
“She’s an amazing person. There’s no way I’d be at 23 without her. There’s
no way I would be at (number) one without her, there’s no way I’d have
anything without her. She’s my inspiration, she’s the only reason I’m
standing here today and the only reason the Williams sisters exist. Thank
you Venus for inspiring me to be the best player that I could be and
inspiring me to work hard – every time you won this week, I thought ‘I’ve
got to win too’.”
Pressure had started to take a heavier toll on Serena as she closed in on
major records in recent years. She fell in two Grand Slam finals last year
before claiming a seventh Wimbledon crown in July.
She raised her level, however, to bring up break point with an exceptional
backhand volley winner before thundering a backhand down the line for
4-3.
She closed out the opening set with back-to-back aces.
With the crowd rallying behind her, the 36-year-old Venus – making her
17th appearance at Melbourne Park – dug deep to avoid the early break in
the second set, hitting back-to-back forehand winners to hold from 0-40
down for 2-1.
Sensing her opportunity to end it in two, however, Serena converted on
a third break point opportunity for 4-3 with a 138km/h backhand return
winner leaving Venus stranded.
In the first major final between the siblings since Wimbledon 2009, Serena
would close out her 17th triumph from 28 meetings after 82 minutes.
Serena stands tallest
And in the battle of the two oldest Australian Open finalists in the Open
Era, neither player was able to capitalise early on, with the weight of
history showing on Serena.
When she slipped changing direction for a drop shot in the third game of
the match she snapped her racquet in fury, drawing an immediate code
violation.
Despite going on to break for 2-1, a third double fault ensured a fourthstraight
service break to open the match.
Where Serena had become accustomed to dominating and intimidating
her opponents without the loss of a set this tournament, she was being
pushed back and dealt a dose of her own medicine.
