FROM THE EDITOR
B Y : T H E R E S A S M I T H

is better known as THE PRINCIPAL, but there's more to
He
B. Giriraj than Principal, as he exclusively tells Explore Team...
Dr.
Dr. B. Giriraj
his punishing schedule, Dr. B. Giriraj was so buoyant and
Despite
throughout the interview, which must be one among the
friendly
reasons for his dynamism.
Could you please introduce yourself, Sir?
I am Giriraj, currently the Principal of PSG polytechnic college. I did my schooling in Stanes
Anglo-Indian Higher secondary school and completed my B.E and M.E in PSG college of
Technology. Also I am a doctorate from PSG college of Technology.
Did you ever dream of what you are today in your childhood?
Certainly not! Till the age of 14 years, I was brought up in a much protected environment
and I didn’t have much exposure to the society. After losing my dad, all of a sudden I was
pushed to face the world. After that I started to make careful steps. I feel that it’s the rough
B Y : T H E R E S A S M I T H
times that helps us to grow and nurture. All throughout the path so many people supported
me, guided me and I learnt things from many people. But I always believed that positive
thinking can help us achieve our goals.
What drew you to a career in education, sir?
I had passion to be in industries and I loved engineering but I never dreamt of pursuing a
carrier in teaching profession and absolutely I never dreamt of becoming a principal. But I
always ensured that whatever job I do. I will give my best. Even if I am a delivery boy or a
server in tea stall I will work with my all heart and try to align with the management and the
customers. When someone gives you responsibility, it is because they believe in you.
Whatever the work may be, do what is to be done.
From Maintenance Engineer to College Principal.. Was it an easy journey?
How could it be! Till my college, I rarely got on the stage. But later when I was in the
industries I had to face so many kind of people and conduct meetings with them, talk to
them. Then I started to observe, wherever I go I will pick my own role models. I am a
thorough mixture of so many inspiring people who was around me and then I added my
own flavors and here I am. When I took over as a principal of PSG polytechnic college I
didn’t have any idea how this college is functioning but I always have this goal to bring up
PSG polytechnic college to the standards of engineering institutions.

are your goals for PSG PTC?
What
have divided my goal into three aspects. The first thing is to train my faculty members to
I
best, as I have got many young faculty members. Then I want to motivate my students
the
bring discipline and culture within them. Last, I want to improve everything around us
and
the level of best with the given things. I know things can’t happen in overnight but we
to
a very good brand name and a very supporting team with us, so we will succeed
have
My ambition for my students is that one day, they should be in World Skill program. I
soon.
that motivation alone can bring up the students.
believe
a principal, what do you expect from the parents?
As
should understand that they are the first role model of the students and they play a
Parents
significant role in molding the character of their children. It is only a three year stay so I
very
make a very big difference but I will support them will all my strength and parents
can’t
should understand and support them to bring out the best from their children.
what is your one line motto?
Sir,
let negative thoughts to enter. Always keep your mind free and clean. Be Positive!
Never
has inspired you a lot, Sir?
Who
have so many role models throughout my life like Dr. R. Rudramoorthy, Dr. P.V Mohanram,
I
S. Vijayarangan, Dr.K.Natarajan... I learnt so many things from so many people but to
Dr.
one person who had a tremendous impact on me would be my father. I spent a very
name
amount of time with him but I always feel his presence with me and his actions are still
less
me.
guiding
Some words for our students...
had gone through lots of hardships, disappointments in my life. I am here it’s not an
I
victory. People may think I am here comfortably sitting in air conditioned room
overnight
to reach this I had come across the roughest paths and faced obstacles every day. But
but
that it is the roughest roads always leads to beautiful destinations.
BOND OF FRIENDSHIP
Isn’t it funny?
We can go longer time without any contact,
But when we get in touch,
It’s like no time has passed at all..!
We looked at each other and wondered,
“What happened to our yesterdays?”
I walked down those floors, memorizing everything;
The classrooms, friend’s desks, canteens…
And the memories of three years that went all so quickly.
Our laughs and glances we shared followed us forever..!
But now…
The sun has set,
The leaves are shed,
The birds have flew,
It’s time for us to vacate the desk.
There is nothing called “Happy endings”,
Endings are always saddest..!
But neither the time nor the distance can separate our bond

DIVERGENT
novelist Veronica Roth, published in 2011. The
Divergent is the debut novel of American
novel is the first of the Divergent trilogy, a series
of young adult dystopian novels set in the
Divergent Universe. The novel Divergent features a
post-apocalyptic version of Chicago. Divergent is
about a girl called Tris. She lives in a world which
has a divided society. Tris doesn't fit in to any of
the societies, she is different. She is forced to live
a life she doesn't want. She wants to find where
III DMT
she belongs, so she leaves her family behind and
ventures out alone. However, she finds herself in a
brutal new life where she can trust nobody. Along
this journey she becomes drawn to a boy who
seemed dangerous but safe.
The book was very intriguing from the
very start to the end. The plot line was unique and
kept me reading. Many people say it is just like
The Hunger Games, but I have read and enjoyed
both books and I can tell you they are very
different.
Divergent was based around many
different aspects, but what I liked the most about
this book was that it displayed not only the
relationship that Tris had with Four, but it was
also based on her friendship with the other
characters and her family. I feel like other books
are generally based around one relationship and
don't really show the character's relationship with
their friends and family as much as Divergent did,
and that's what I think made Divergent a great
book to read.
Tris was a very strong character and it was very
interesting to read about her because she had her
own mind and she was a very determined
character. I would recommend this book to people
who enjoy adventure books and love books like
The Hunger Games.

is a story which I came across in my life that has changed my
This
perspective on life and I would like to share it with you all.
whole
a professor began his class by holding up a glass with some
Once
in it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students “how
water
do you think this glass weighs?” ’50 gms’ ‘100 gms’ ‘125
much
different answers came from the students. “I really don’t
gms’
unless I weigh it “, said the professor “but my question is,
know
would happen if I held it up like this for few minutes?”
what
the students said. “Okay! What would happen if I held
“Nothing!”
up like this for an hour?” a day? “Your arm could go numb, you
it
good! But doing all this did the weight of the glass
“Very
questioned the professor and in the students in chorus
change?”
“no”. The professor started to explain the students “life’s
said
are also same like this. Hold the problems for few
problems
in your hand and they seem pretty much okay. Then,
minutes
of them for a bit longer time they begin to ache and hold it
think
is important to think about problems in our life but what
It
more important is to put them down at the end of the day.
even
is 10% of what happens to us; and 90% of how we react to us!
ARE WHO WE ARE, FOR A LOT OF REASONS
"WE
WE NEVER KNOW MOST OF THEM"
MAYBE
days pass by, we realize that life is all about letting it
As
But whatsoever leaves us always has a habit of finding us
go.
We all are unique and we all are here for some beautiful
back.
We are who we are for a lot of reasons maybe we
reasons.
know most of them. There is a famous quote we used to
never
across in our life that the life is all about finding yourself
come
creating yourself and more. We hear people saying “Be
or
“Find You” but have we ever thought about the
You”,
of the word “You”. What is actually defines to be
importance
You?
you are you that is truer than truth. There is no
Today
alive who is you’er than you. The greatest purpose of life is
one
finding You it’s all about creating You.
not
world need each and every one of us. This world will not
This
the same without you. Every trauma and pain we go
be
have something to teach us. This life is given to you
through
you are worth to live. Accept ‘You’ with open hands
because
embrace it. Don’t try to shrink yourself for others. The ‘You’
and
so many reasons behind it. Believe! The magic is around
has
corner. As one of my favorite poet Rumi says that you have
the
stop acting so small. You are the whole universe in ecstatic
to
So it’s time to create the real ‘YOU’!!!!!!!!
of
burning desire for the badminton cup never got
the
it was our team who brought the laurels to our
because
winning the badminton trophy after being
I realized that failure is not the opposite of success
