Welcome to our Postgraduate Open Day.
Our Open Days are designed to provide you with all the information you
need to make an informed choice about the many taught and research
opportunities available to you at the University of Salford.
Postgraduate study is increasingly important. A taught postgraduate
course offers you the ideal chance to specialise in a particular field,
re-focus your career, and gain a qualification that can enhance your
employment prospects and professional development.
Salford is a research-driven university, using innovation and creativity
to find solutions to ‘real-world’ problems. Our multi-disciplinary research
environment is recognised nationally and around the world. Research
at Salford must also bring a range of benefits to learning and teaching,
inform our community engagement activities, and incorporate lively
national and international partnerships.
Our research is organised through four strategic interdisciplinary
themes; Built Environment; Energy; Health & Wellbeing; Media,
Digital Technology & the Creative Economy.
If you are a current student or alumnus, it’s an exciting time to
rediscover your career options at the University. Our unique digital
teaching, learning and research space at MediaCityUK is now open
and is home to over 1,500 students. In addition we are making a
major investment in our campus, including a new £38m Arts Building
which will include theatre and studio spaces.

Guide to submitting your application
1 When you first enter the online application
you will be asked to create an account.
2 You will then receive an email with your
login PIN and password.
3 You can re-enter and complete your
application at times convenient to you.
4 Fill in all your application details using
the guidance within the form.
5 Upload your supporting documents.
6 Once you have submitted your application
you can print a copy of your application.
However you cannot re-enter and make
any changes at this stage.
What happens next?
■ When you submit your online application you
will receive an acknowledgement by email
■ You’ll be notified of the outcome of your
application in writing.
Recognising experience
We’re not just interested in exams you’ve passed and
certificates you’ve collected. If you’ve gained enough
relevant work experience – paid or voluntary – we’ll
take that into account through our Accreditation of
Prior Learning (APL) and Accreditation of Prior
Experiential Learning (APEL) schemes.

The research proposal is a crucial part of your
postgraduate research application.
You should discuss your proposal with the
Postgraduate Research Admissions Contact of the
School to which you are applying, to make sure you
understand what is expected in your subject area.

As a postgraduate student you will need to pay
annual tuition fees to the University for the course
you are studying.
UK/EU fees
Full-time fees for postgraduate taught courses
per year range from £6,200 to £9,500 (£16,120
for the MBA).
Part-time fees for postgraduate taught courses
per year range from £1,033 to £1,625 per 30 credits.
UK/EU awards and discounts

Professional career development loan
A Professional and Career Development Loan could
help you pay for learning that enhances your job
skills and career prospects. It’s a bank loan, so you’ll
have to pay it back once you’ve left your course,
however you don’t pay interest for the period when
you’re in learning. You can borrow between £300
and £10,000 interest free while you’re studying and
once you’ve finished studying you pay it back in the

Visiting us
The University of Salford is situated just a mile and a half from Manchester city centre. Our main campus is just
1.6 miles from MediaCityUK. There are excellent transport links, with Salford Crescent railway station on campus
and regular bus services. The Irwell Place car park will be open and free of charge to Open Day visitors. If you are
going straight to MediaCityUK, we recommend that you use public transport or park at Irwell Place and then
take the shuttle bus service. Parking is extremely limited at MediaCityUK, and a charge will apply.
