Vice Chancellor’s Message
The world believes that our large young population is our unique
strength and that with this promising young population, India is perfectly
poised on a trajectory to world leadership. However, all policy makers,
educationists and industry leaders believe that this young resource can
be transformed into an effective asset through education, which is not
merely theoretical, but that which transforms the youth into individuals
with a high intellect and an equally strong emotional and spiritual
quotient.
We have endeavored to provide our students with the right blend of
world class infrastructure, adept teaching and support staff,
development of industry relevant curricula, adoption of suitable
teaching methodologies, introduction of effective performance
evaluating mechanisms, regular interaction with eminent personalities
from diverse fields and linkages with institutions of excellence both
domestic and international, all of which are necessary to provide a
nurturing and supporting academic environment.
The significant strides made by the university in the area of teaching,
research and society outreach have started giving dividends in terms of
increasingly high level of acceptance of its students in diverse
organizations and in espousing and addressing societal issues like
malnutrition, health & hygiene, girls' education and sustainability of
development.
The university is organized to launch innovative programs catering to
the emerging needs of industry and society in areas such as energy
management, sustainable development, rural resource management,
intellectual property rights, corporate governance, managing not for
profit organizations, fire and safety engineering, disaster management
and health and hygiene in the near future.
Efforts are on to bring excellence in every aspect of work we do at
Teerthanker Mahaveer University. This has enhanced the engagement
of the employees in the university's work, which is essential for
developing a responsive organization. Our priorities would be to further
improve the competence of the entire workforce through regular
training and developmental initiatives, creation of entrepreneurial
culture enabling students to be self employed, bringing global
perspective, strengthening of research and consultancy, offering
interdisciplinary courses to widen students' perspective and carrying
cultural and sports activities on a larger scale.
I wish all the very best to aspirants of different programs.
Prof. R.K. Mittal
Registrar's Message
With the unstinting support, trust and confidence posed by
stakeholders, the university is rapidly marching ahead towards
achieving its goal of providing world class education. All this has been
made possible by constantly asking how systems could be made more
efficient and effective to meet the rising aspirations of the stakeholders.
Each one in the university has contributed immensely in this process of
learning and accomplishment. The desire to accomplish, the conviction
to succeed, the dedication to stay focused and discipline to put in hard
work has been the philosophy that propelled us in this endeavour.
Last four years of phenomenal growth in terms of students' enrollment,
expansion, diversity and richness of academic programs, academic
collaborations, industry-university linkages, research publications and
creation of infrastructure & support facilities requires us to further
strengthen governance, academics and community outreach
initiatives. The immediate priority would be to complete the process of
laying down performance parameters and their evaluation process to
bring transparency and accountability in the system.
We are confident that the multidisciplinary approach adopted in our
curriculum, focus on experiential learning, leveraging ICT for better
delivery of education, promotion of outbound activities for behavioural
changes and sports as integral component of the learning process is
going to help the students in enhancing their capability and
competence.
Academic ambience, the competence of faculty and the systems
through which the academic programs are designed and delivered form
the soul of any university. Though the soul is neither seen, nor visible,
yet it can be felt and experienced. I invite you to be a part of Teerthanker
Mahaveer University to experience this to make an impact on the future
direction in your life.
One of the important challenges facing the society is how to organize,
control and access information. The technological advancements have
made information available in greater quantities and increasingly
diverse forms. Books, Journals, newspapers and non-book materials
have joined electronic publishing, multimedia and internet to provide
multiple choices for sources both for individuals and organizations.
Libraries are now universally recognized as important social institutions,
playing important role in providing right information on diverse subjects
as per the growing need of the society at right time and right place.
Library and Information Science, which is having an interdisciplinary
character, applies the practices, perspectives, and tools of management,
information technology, education, and other areas to libraries in
collection, organization, preservation, and dissemination of information
resources; and their management. The importance of libraries has gone
up in a knowledge economy as they are considered to be the repositories
of knowledge and information. In this situation, the librarianship has
attained the status of a separate discipline. Librarians are the custodians
of libraries and they organize, maintain, and store books in the libraries.
Since the profession of library science has social orientation therefore,
needs young men and women with a sense of dedication and a spirit of
service to help people finding information and it effective usage.
The department of Library and Information Science has been created to
make available trained manpower for efficient management of libraries
and also to promote research on issues confronting the profession of
library science.
Admission Brochure 2012-2013
About Moradabad
Moradabad was founded in 1625 and named after a son of the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. The ruins of a fort
built in 1625 lie to the northern part of the city.
It is believed that the brassware industry traces its roots to Moradabad and has now spread to the rest of the country.
Although the art of brassware developed in the period of Mughals only, but evidence suggests that Indians, from
around 3000 B.C., knew the process of metallurgy. The discovery of a bronze statue of ‘Dancing Girl’ in the Harappa
excavation proves this.
The brassware industry in Moradabad saw its boom during the early 19th century and Britishers carried the art of
making brassware to foreign markets. Artisans from Banaras, Lucknow, Agra and Jalesar formed the current cluster
of brassware industry in Moradabad. In 1980, various other metalwares like brass, EPNS, iron, aluminium, etc., were
introduced to the art industry of Moradabad. New technologies like electroplating, lacquering, powder coating, etc.,
also found its way to the industry.
It has all along been a hub of commercial activities, and is called ‘Brass City’. There are several hundreds of units
engaged in the manufacturing and export of brass products. Almost all the major retail chains like Walmart, IKEA,
Target, etc., purchase brass products from Moradabad itself. Average annual export of brassware and handicraft items
from Moradabad to rest of the world is to the tune of Rs. 3,000 crores, which constitutes 40% of total exports from
India under this category. Moradabad city is a designated Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of the Government of India.
Over the years, Moradabad has grown in terms of population, business, infrastructure and administrative setup.
Presently, the city has a population of 12 lacs and administratively is the commissionery headquarter of Moradabad,
Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Rampur and Bijnor districts. The civil amenities of the city are managed by Municipal Corporation
headed by the Mayor. Further to augment development process of the city, the government has created Moradabad
Development Authority.
The city is connected to seven state capitals and as many as 16 other industrial towns and large urban business
centres. Delhi is only 140 kms away. The famous hill stations of Nainital and Mussoorie are within 200 kms from
Moradabad city. Hastinapur, the holy city for Jains is 120 kms. away from Moradabad.
The city is surrounded by industrial hubs like Rudrapur, Hardwar, Roorkee, Meerut, Kashipur, Noida and Delhi,
providing ample opportunities to the graduating students to get trained and absorbed both in Indian and multinational
companies.
