University of Pune, aptly known as Oxford of the East, has come a<br />
long way since its establishment in 1949. During these glorious years it has<br />
continuously strived to be a leader. Recognition by the University Grants<br />
Commission (UGC) as University with Potential for Excellence as well as<br />
accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with<br />
the highest possible grading of five stars has further strengthened this<br />
position.<br />
The Department of Management Sciences, fondly known as <strong>PUMBA</strong><br />
(Pune University – MBA), is one of the distinguished Post-Graduate<br />
Departments of the University of Pune. It provides quality training to the<br />
students keeping them abreast with the dynamic corporate world.<br />
The Department of Management Sciences, in line with the traditions<br />
of University of Pune, has successfully managed to interweave the corporate<br />
pre-requisites with the academic curriculum. With sincere and diligent<br />
endeavors and taking cognizance of the collective voice of the corporate,<br />
<strong>PUMBA</strong> has its fingers firmly placed on the pulse of the industry.<br />

As rightly stated in the shlokas, there is no letter which is of no value<br />
and cannot be used in divine poems; No root so useless that it cannot be<br />
used in medicine; Likewise there is no worthless person; The only problem is<br />
the scarcity of the one who knows how to use him.<br />
One of the emerging global challenges which we face is the growing<br />
shortage of leaders. Over the next ten years a significant number of hands<br />
will leave than new ones joining the workforce. A similar trend is seen in all<br />
the major global economies and this will have a large impact on the<br />
managerial and executive ranks. Our teaching mission at <strong>PUMBA</strong> is to<br />
prepare the leaders that fill this gap, but we strive to go beyond this. We<br />
build leaders who are truly committed and care to make a difference.<br />
At <strong>PUMBA</strong> students come to experience a congenial, family like<br />
study environment with top notch faculty who inspire them to achieve their<br />
utmost. Students learn the application of the latest business theories<br />
through a case study approach and direct exposure to managerial<br />
situations. This helps them to transform into autonomous thinkers crucial<br />
for the leaders of tomorrow. Formal managerial education is extremely<br />
essential to develop the right management perspective, to infuse and<br />
integrate into a person the habit of continuously enhancing himself by<br />
acquiring skills for professional management.<br />
<strong>PUMBA</strong>’s MBA++ programme, one of its kind in the country has<br />
rolled out two batches and the feedback we have received from the<br />
corporate world is encouraging. The MBA++ programme is designed to cater<br />
to today’s ever changing market needs of requisite managerial skill.<br />
This batch, 2011-12, will always be special because it rings in new<br />
changes. We have started the intake of Army Officers, who have served in<br />
the noblest profession of ensuring the nation’s security and integrity. They<br />
bring in maturity to the batch with their vast experience of over 22 years of<br />
serving the nation. This helps in developing the temperament and vision of<br />
future managers. Their conduct is an epitome of perfection which inspires<br />
the students and will continue to do so in the future.<br />

<strong>PUMBA</strong> : Social Responsibility (QMTI)<br />
The first course was conducted by the Department of Management<br />
Sciences (<strong>PUMBA</strong>) from 1st August, 2008. <strong>PUMBA</strong> faculties and students<br />
impart this training as a part of their Social Responsibility Initiative i.e.<br />
without charging any remuneration.<br />
Founded in 1917, by Lady Marie Wilingdon, wife of the then<br />
Governor, Bombay Province, QMTI is a charitable Educational Trust.<br />
QMTI has a status of an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and is the<br />
only institute in India today which is wholly dedicated to the training of the<br />
disabled servicemen and ex-servicemen. It conducts Computer courses,<br />
BPO, English speaking courses and ITI courses.<br />
The University of Pune in collaboration with Queen Mary’s Technical<br />
Institute (QMTI) offers a one year long distance diploma course in<br />
management, “Diploma in Industrial Administration and Service<br />
Management” for disabled soldiers, ex-servicemen Personnel below Officer<br />
Rank (PBOR) and their dependents.<br />
The course aims to increase the employability of disabled soldiers,<br />
ex-servicemen and their dependents in the current market environment.<br />
This course shall ensure them suitable jobs in many sectors, e.g. Security<br />
Management, Retail Management, Banking and Insurance Services.<br />
Course Structure:<br />
• <strong>13</strong> subjects covering the basic concepts in Management.<br />
• Area of Functional and Sectoral Specializations.<br />
• Workshops to ensure overall personality development and improved<br />
communication skills.<br />
• Industry Contact Program for two months to get acclimatized to the<br />

Pune International Marathon<br />
<strong>PUMBA</strong> : Social Responsibility<br />
Department of Management Sciences in<br />
coordination with Deenanath Mangeskar Hospital<br />
arranged a Blood Donation camp at the <strong>PUMBA</strong><br />
campus. 200 students donated a total of 200 bottles of<br />
blood stretching hands towards a noble cause.<br />
Management students and staff had given an<br />
overwhelming response to this SR activity which has in<br />
turn immensely contributed to the success of this<br />
activity.<br />
Student Police Internship<br />
This is our effort to support a cause which is of<br />
greatest importance in our country today. Every year<br />
<strong>PUMBA</strong>ites participate in the Pune International<br />
Marathon with enthusiasm and zeal. At the flag-off,<br />
<strong>PUMBA</strong> students were joined by our HOD Dr. (Capt.)<br />
C.M. Chitale who motivated and encouraged everyone<br />
for their efforts. It was 4.5 km run that was undertaken<br />
to increase the awareness about Female Foeticide and<br />
its prevention. Banners were waved and slogans filled<br />
the air as a crowd of 150 students surged ahead through<br />
the streets of Pune. This year too, <strong>PUMBA</strong> enjoyed the<br />
privilege of being awarded the largest participating<br />
academic institutional group.<br />
Blood Donation<br />
This is a joint effort of Pune Police and <strong>PUMBA</strong><br />
to increase the awareness regarding social issues and<br />
involve students in suggesting innovative ways for<br />
better management of overall policing process.<br />
It is a 15 days internship programme where<br />
students get acquainted to various departmental<br />
activities of the Police. This activity provides a gainful<br />
insight to the management students so as to<br />
understand the complexity of social & civil issues faced<br />
by the Police.<br />

Alumni Cell<br />
Time links our present and future to our past with guilds of gold.<br />
For the institute the true worth of its activities, in the long run, is<br />
the success of its Alumni. The institute takes pride in knowing<br />
that our Alumni have achieved success in their endeavors and<br />
reached highest position in all fields, be it academics,<br />
entrepreneurship or management. Our Alumni who have a<br />
good learning and a great social experience need a pulpit to<br />
continue the pleasant association with the Institute. Alumni<br />
Cell offers our Alumni the chance to keep up with the<br />
happenings of their Alma Mater as well as assist in<br />
strengthening the link with the other Alumni by way of various<br />
events such as 'Chapter Meet', 'Nostalgia', 'Smriti-The<br />
Yearbook', 'Reminiscence' and 'Alumni Speaks'.<br />
<strong>Placement</strong> Cell<br />
<strong>Placement</strong> Cell acts as an interface between the Industry and<br />
the Department. The result of the consistent efforts put in by<br />
the students to groom themselves to face the Competition in<br />
the Industry and our efforts is proved in the consistent 95%<br />
placements achieved over the years. Our interaction with the<br />
industry helps us understand their requirements and<br />
expectations, which need to be inculcated in the students to<br />
help them in becoming more efficient. <strong>Placement</strong> cell prides<br />
itself in being a completely student managed entity where<br />
students get to learn the basics of corporate interaction from<br />
the college itself.<br />

Entrepreneurship Development Cell<br />
Nobody talks of entrepreneurship as a survival, but<br />
that's exactly what it is and what nurtures creative<br />
thinking. We've got to do everything we can to make<br />
entrepreneurial dreams a reality. The prime focus of ED<br />
Cell is to develop a sustained platform that supports<br />
students of <strong>PUMBA</strong> in starting up; showcasing their<br />
skills and structuring their thoughts in the less explored<br />
field of entrepreneurship & thereby realizing their<br />
ideas and converting them to reality. <strong>PUMBA</strong> has<br />
entered into a strategic alliance with National<br />
Entrepreneurship Network (NEN). Various events<br />
conducted by ED Cell include 'Yukti', 'Entrepreneurial<br />
Workshops', 'Incubation Projects', 'SEVA Fair', etc.
Cultural Cell<br />
It is the Cultural Cell that helps imbibe the values and traditions<br />
of <strong>PUMBA</strong> and upkeeps them. Dynamism, sense of social<br />
responsibility, camaraderie, a sense of pride and belonging to<br />
the alma mater, team spirit, sportsmanship and savoring<br />
challenges are the traits that best describe <strong>PUMBA</strong>ites, past<br />
and present, by their colleagues, seniors and subordinates<br />
because of the culture of <strong>PUMBA</strong>.<br />
Communication Cell<br />
Communication Cell manages the internal and external<br />
communication for <strong>PUMBA</strong> and feels proud to be called as 'The<br />
Voice of <strong>PUMBA</strong>'. As their objective they take up, 'Nexus' – A<br />
quarterly newsletter to encompass activities of <strong>PUMBA</strong> and<br />
articles by the students. They are also responsible for the<br />
development and maintenance of <strong>PUMBA</strong> website and also<br />
play a key role in advertising the various events of <strong>PUMBA</strong><br />
through various media.<br />

Seminar Cell, 'The Face of <strong>PUMBA</strong>' organizes and<br />

help of the corporate world assists in imparting<br />
knowledge, foresight and wisdom. It is a continuous<br />
process that involves inputs from the corporate sector<br />
and the society as a whole. The Seminar Cell strives to<br />
make the two years of the journey that a student<br />
invests in <strong>PUMBA</strong> some of the most cherished<br />

Summers<br />
Summers is an inter-collegiate paper presentation<br />
competition organized with the objective of orienting<br />
the first year students about the different<br />
specializations and the type of projects they would<br />
have to work on during their summer internships. B-<br />
Schools across the country are invited for this event and<br />
the participants are required to present a paper based<br />
on their summer project. Summers'10 secured an<br />
overwhelming response with participants from<br />
reputed institutes like Jamnalal Bajaj (Mumbai), K J<br />

Nostalgia <strong>2012</strong>- It's the time of the year when Alumni<br />
come back to their alma mater. This year the theme was<br />

Chapter Meet<br />
Alumni chapter meets are organized across 5<br />
cities in India. Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Banglore,<br />
Hyderabad. A large number of alumni attend this<br />
event. <strong>PUMBA</strong>'s journey has been enriched through<br />
many fruitful discussions that have happened in<br />
these meets till date.<br />
National Seminar<br />
It is the biggest annual event organized by<br />
<strong>PUMBA</strong>. This event presents an opportunity for<br />
discussion on the economic situations faced by India,<br />
the ever changing trends,<br />

Dhruv<br />
Chapter Meet<br />
“DHRUV” offers a host of management and<br />
extra-curricular events for participants from about 80 B-<br />
schools all over India with more than 2000 entries. It<br />
comprises of more than 25 different management<br />
games, cultural and sports activities. Management<br />
games include business plans, decision-making skills,<br />
business awareness, negotiation skills etc. Cultural<br />
events include group and solo dances, singing, dumb<br />
charades, debates, treasure hunts etc. This is one<br />
competition where every institute wins.<br />
HR Rendezvous<br />
It is an annual event that comprises of enactment of<br />
real-life cases related to Human Resources that are<br />
more often than not faced at the workplace. This helps<br />
the students to comprehend these issues and develop<br />
an HR personnel's perspective while resolving them.<br />
Also, there is a panel discussion on another HR related<br />
issue. We invite stalwarts from the industry, who with<br />
their wide arena of expertise and knowledge, help<br />
unravel the mysteries in the workplace.<br />

CRP Guidelines<br />
Guidelines for the Campus Recruitment Procedure at <strong>PUMBA</strong><br />
• The student(s) if already selected by a company is permitted to appear for the selection procedure of another<br />
company if<br />
o The latter company has offered 1.33 or more times the CTC of the former company.<br />
o The student has not signed and submitted the offer letter of the former company.<br />
• Confirmation of the offer to the student(s) is subject to the receipt of an offer letter from the company or a<br />
formal communication by the company to the respective Student <strong>Placement</strong> Coordinator<br />
• In case the company for any reasons keeps the student(s) on hold, such student(s) will be eligible to sit for the<br />
selection procedure of other companies i.e. will be eligible for the remainder of the Campus Recruitment<br />
Programme, till the receipt of communication as mentioned in the above point. This will also apply to the<br />
short-listed student(s) pending for their final interview. Thus companies are requested to declare the results as<br />
soon as possible.<br />
• Withdrawal of offer once made by the company to the student(s) is not expected. This will lead to the<br />
company losing it privilege.<br />
• It is preferred that the company gives a Pre-<strong>Placement</strong> talk which can be followed by the selection procedure<br />
as premeditated by the company.<br />
• Companies may kindly understand that the time schedule given for the Campus Recruitment Programme will<br />
be at the discretion of <strong>Placement</strong> & Corporate Relations Cell.<br />
• We request the company to inform the <strong>Placement</strong> & Corporate Relations Cell of their recruitment programme<br />
itinerary well in advance to avoid any inconvenience as adjustments to the Campus Recruitment Schedule may<br />
not always be possible.<br />
• Selected student(s) will be allowed to join the company only from 1st March, <strong>2012</strong> of thereafter irrespective of<br />
date of campus selection. However the company is requested to grant special leave to such student(s) to<br />
