ABSTRACT:
Criticism of Modernity, as advanced by Heidegger, consists of a
criticism of subject and representation. Western civilization’s decision
of splitting subject from object has defined Modernity—a decision
where the former makes an alliance with representation in order to
dominate the latter. In current tardomodernidad such movement
will become reification, a sort of “somersault” of the subject upon
itself. The objectification of the subject on the basis of aesthetics is
thus completed. Making an option for the subject, for representation
and aesthetics, is also making a decision towards technology, which
stores, transforms, and distributes. According to Heidegger our
civilization must follow this decision to its bitter end. This allows us
to pose a question regarding Facebook. Does this technology that
corners together both the subject and its sensations (I like it, I don’t
like it, I don’t like it anymore) imply a new somersault through which
an already posthumous subject modulates its own extinction?
