million grant by the National 

Park Service through its Land and 

Water Conservation Fund Program 

(LWCF) to help build a new downtown

agencies for acquisition and development 

projects to create outdoor recreational 

resources. Under provisions

§5099.12, the program is administered

new downtown park located at the 

corner of Avenida Lalo Guerrero and 

Cathedral Canyon Drive will feature

This preserve was founded in 1968 by 

Tasker and Beula Edmiston who together 

first saw these flowers in 1957 on Easter 

Sunday. The Desert Lily bulbs lie underground 

and will often wait for many years

sanctuary, take the Desert Center exit 

off Interstate 10, then drive about seven 

miles northeast of town on the Desert

MODERNISM WEEK 

THE ART OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN IN PALM 

SPRINGS 

Modernism 2017 was held from February 

16 to the 26. There were numerous events 

from Bus tours of Mid Century Modern 

homes and commercial buildings, throughout 

the area, films, lectures, historic house 

tours, and the Christopher Kennedy Compound 

in Andreas Hills. The Andreas Hills 

Compound consisted of a 6500 square foot 

home with interior designed by the media 

designer star Kelly Golightly as well as 

Chtristopher Kennedy, along with several 

other designers. 

The Camp temporary structure, near 

Ramon and South Palm Canyon provided 

an overview of the main events along with 

purchasing tickets a gift shop and some 

vendor information. The displays of various 

mid - century items from furniture to 

art, artifacts, and booths for architectural 

and historical clients were at the Palm 

Springs Convention Center. 

The stated advantage of these homes is that 

they can be constructed quickly at lower 

cost than standard construction. 

Modernism presents a wide variety of 

events and activities that are entertaining 

and informative. For those of us who live 

locally it is an event worth participating 

and enjoying.

Center was a unique new builder, Round 

Dwell Homes. This organization is planning 

to build at least 3 new homes in the 

Palm Springs area. The 6500 square foot 

homes are designed in a circular format 

with individual rooms organized like a pie 

shape. The center provides an open atrium 

for a pool or other desired purpose. The 

construction materials are steel, glass and 

concrete. the roof also provides for an 

open terrace that can hold up to 150 people. 

One of these houses are about to begin 

construction in Palm Springs. The builder 

is looking for other investors or those 

planning to build a new home. The contact

If people in AA can become non-drinkers, 

can an asshole change into a non-asshole? 

I’ve never seen it? I think change depends 

on each individual and their will to change, 

and most individuals are not willing to 

change. 

I am amazed at what 

people can’t see what is 

directly in front of their 

face. If it was a big shlong 

they’d notice. Among

very observant and i can 

read body language. It’s 

the actor in me for one.

THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis 

Here I am sitting in Atlanta, GA fulfilling my 

duties as a member of the Democratic National 

Committee. One of only 447 in the nation. This 

week is devoted solely to choosing a new Chair 

and various other officer positions. 

Besides the voting delegates there are 100’s of 

activists working for their respective candidates. 

As you. An imagine, tempers are. Little frayed 

and left over tensions from the Clinton Vs 

Sanders battle, but overall it’s been civil - though 

loud! 

Leading up to this weekend I have received (no 

lie) over 1000 emails, 100’s of letters and calls 

supporting one or another candidate. Many 

have been form letters but quite a few were written 

personally and I spent more time reading 

those. Many calls I had to let go to voice mail 

or I wouldn’t get any work done but it was nice 

(and humbling) to have members of Congress 

from CA, NY and CO call to ask me for something 

instead of the other way around! 

There were LGBT candidates for every office; 

including Chair of the Party where two of the 

candidates were Gay men; Ray Buckley, current 

chair of the Democratic Party of New Hampshire 

and Pete Buttigieg, Mayor of South Bend, 

Indiana. Ray dropped out just as the conference 

began. I was able to vote for Pete who I believe, 

even at a young 31 he was one of the brightest 

and most articulate. A real future leader in the 

country. He didn’t make it past the first round 

and my support went to Congressman Keith 

Ellison of Minnesota. It eventually came down 

to Keith and former Secretary of Labor Tom 

Perez. Both good men and quite capable. Tom 

won out and immediately named Keith as the 

Deputy Chair of the Party. 

The Secretary, Treasurer and Finance Chair are 

all gay men and the four Vice Chairs are three 

women and a man. All colors of the rainbow 

and from throughout the country. We have a 

strong team to lead the Party going forward for 

the 2018 mid term elections and the 2020 presidential 

race. 

While the meeting was going on POTUS continued 

to fight the news media; barring CNN 

and others from press briefings and boycotting 

the White House Correspondents Dinner. One 

wonders if his feelings are hurt and this is how 

he acts out? Can we say Donnie go stand in the 

corner? 

Darrel Issa(R-CA) has now called for a special 

prosecutor to investigate the Russian involvement 

in the 20-6 election. This is a story that is 

not going to end. 

The National League of Cities announced that 

Attorney General Sessions will keynote their 

conference next month and I look forward to 

heckling from the floor. 

Locally rumors abound of more indictments 

coming down in Palm Springs. Who’s 

next? Cathedral City’s LGBT Days are coming 

with Leslie Jordan headlining. Check out 

www.discovercathedralcity.com.

as an expert in transportation issues and is very active 

in working on bringing passenger rail service to the 

COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the first openly gay 

elected city council members In Riverside County. He 

has served on the boards of the National League of 

Cities and the League of California Cities and as President 

of the Southern CA Association of Governments.
