Schmidf). 1 he material employed was coUected on the cruises of the Danish research steamer „Thor" in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, supplemented by material procured by the investigation ship „Mar- grethe" and various other vessels fishing for the Danish Commit- tee for the Study of the Sea. With regard to the areas investigated and times of investigation etc. reference may be made to the „Re- port on the Danish Oceanographical Expeditions 1908— 10". Vol. I, Introduction, 1912, and „Meddelelser fra Kommissionen for Hav- undersøgelser", Ser. Fiskeri, Bd. V, No. 7, 1919. In the Mediterranean itself, the following eight species of the family were taken during the expedition: Gonostoma deimdatum, Raf., Cyclothone signata, Garman, Cyclothone microdon, Gunther (but see below), Ichthyococcus ouatus (Cocco), Vinciguerria atte- nuata (Cocco), Vinciguerria Poweriæ (Cocco), Maiirolicus Pen- nanti (Walb.) and Argyropeleciis hemigymnus, Cocco.
