10. Costae<br />

All Costae, except Costae prima can be<br />

scored.<br />

The lesions are primarily located on the dorsal<br />

side of the costae.<br />

Costae, or pieces of costae has to be at least<br />

10 cm in length, measure on the dorsal side,<br />

if they are to be scored.<br />

The costae are sorted and measured in cm. for each<br />

side.<br />

If the added length for both sides is less than 100 cm,<br />

or there are no costae preserved a “/” is noted and the<br />

scoring stops here.<br />

If the added length is more than 100 cm, the added<br />

length for each side is noted. (l + r = 100)<br />

Each lesion, describes below are measured in cm, and<br />

the added length for the lesions of each side are noted.<br />

(You might have to use your fingertips to “see” the lesions)<br />

Osteolytic lesions with sharpe edges and exposure of<br />

the trabecular bone. The lesion can have an oval or<br />

coalesced shape and the same coloration as the surrounding<br />

bone. There will be no reactive bone growth.<br />

This lesion will often occur on the ventral side of the<br />

costae.<br />

Ridges, or very narrow waves, across the area above<br />

Sulcus costae and towards Collum costae.<br />

Rounded or sharp exostoses, wich can be seen in all areas<br />

of the dorsal costae.<br />

Layers of smooth or dusty looking new bone.<br />

The transversal bloodvessels are counted and noted for<br />

each side.<br />
