This&project&deals&with&the&subject&<strong>Alarm</strong>&<strong>Management</strong>&at&<strong>Odense</strong>&<strong>Kraftvarme</strong>værk&(ODV)&which&is&a&<br />

combined&heat&and&power&plant.&<br />

The&main&hypothesis&is&that&ODV&suffers&from&large&alarm&loads&during&plant&upsets&and&trips.&&Currently,&<br />

ODV&has&no&<strong>Alarm</strong>&Philosophy&and&<strong>Alarm</strong>&<strong>Management</strong>&is&applied&to&a&limited&extent.&&<br />

The&EEMUA&191&guideline&and&the&ISA&18.2&standard&on&alarm&management&are&used&as&references&to&“best&<br />

practices”.&<br />

The&objective&of&this&project&is&to&determine&the&most&important&parts&of&a&future&alarm&philosophy&tailored&<br />

to&ODVs&current&practices&and&performance&level.&In&this&way&it&is&concluded&to&what&extend&ODV&can&derive&<br />

advantage&from&such&a&philosophy.&&<br />

ODVs&current&performance&level&is&determined&by&quantitative&operator&questionnaires,&quantitative&alarm&<br />

log&processing,&quantitative&usefulness&questionnaires,&and&general&observations.&Furthermore,&a&<br />

qualitative&operator&interview&has&been&performed&in&order&to&contribute&to&the&hypothesis.&The&alarm&log&<br />

processing&is&used&to&determine&three&Key&Performance&Indicators&(KPIs).&<br />

According&to&the&EEMUA&191,&the&KPIs&categorizes&the&alarm&system&at&ODV&as&performance&level&3&“stable”&<br />

although&the&“qualitative&terms&from&the&perspective&of&the&control&room&operator”&categorizes&the&alarm&<br />

system&as&partly&level&1&“overloaded”&and&partly&as&level&2&“reactive”.&According&to&this&categorization,&ODV&<br />

can&derive&great&advantages&from&a&future&<strong>Alarm</strong>&Philosophy.&<br />

It&is&recommended&that&the&following&subjects&are&given&special&attention&in&ODVs&future&<strong>Alarm</strong>&Philosophy:&&&<br />
