Abstract

This bachelor paper takes a close look at the Palles Gavebod project, cooperation between the

kid’s libraries in Denmark. The project combines a virtual, online children’s library,

www.pallesgavebod.dk and children’s libraries in Denmark. It is examined which type of

participatory culture Palles Gavebod is and which digital literacies it supports. In addition it is

examined to what extent the project follows the main recommendations from the report,

Fremtidens Biblioteksbetjening af børn. This bachelor paper concludes that the project still

seems to be in an early state of the process and that the virtual part doesn’t have the

technological functions that are needed to support a participatory culture. The librarians are

also in need of methods to practice the skills needed to engage in communication with the kids,

especially online.
