Som Anhang til den i n t e r n a t i o n a l e

S i g n a l -Bog — hvis danske Udgave ud-

kom i December 1881 — skal der, ifølge

derom afsluttede internationale Overens-

komster, af hver Sø-Stat med passende

Mellemrum udgives Fortegnelser over

sammes Krigs- og Handels-Skibe, som have

erholdt Kjendings-Signaler efter det inter-

nationale Signal-System, til Brug for Skibe

i Søen og Signal-Stationerne.

I Overensstemmelse hermed indbefatter

INDHOLDS-FORKLARING.

Afdeling I.

Kjendings-Signal-Fortegnelsen.

As an Appendix to the I n t e r n a t i o n a l

Code of S i g n a l s — the last Danish edi-

tion of which was published in December

1881 — a Code List, containing the names

of ships to which Code Signals have been

allotted, ought, according to international

arrangements, made to that effect. to be

published at proper intervals by the mari-

time powers, which have adopted this

system, for the purpose of enabling Officers

at Signal Stations on shore, and Masters

of ships at sea, to signal and report pas-

sing ships.

In accordance herewith the present

Code List contains the names of all

D a n i s h ships, to which signal letters

have been allotted, the merchant vessels

being ranged after the time they have been

entered on the General Register; but, to

avoid too much prolixity. in this edition

the Port of Registry and the Registered

Tonnage has been left out, partly because

these data can be found by referring to

the succeeding Parts II & III, containing the

Registers of Steam vessels and Sailing

ships, separately arranged in alphabetical

order, and partly because the rig, together

with the national flag. which of course will

be observed by the signalling parties, will

suffice to report the ship in question.

In order to know immediately in what

register the ship in question is to be sought

for, the letter „S“ (for screw-steamers) or

„H“ (for paddle-wheel steamers) has been

added to the names carried by steam ships.

In case of more than one ship bearing

the same name, the subjoined signal let-

ters will immediately show what ship is

the right one.
