Comments: This may be the painting referred by Schiele as a work in progress on March 11,
1914 (Nebehay, 1979, #649). Hofmann (1968, p. 16) notes the similarity of the pose to
Auguste Rodin’s 1882 bronze Femme accroupie, and traces it, through a series of prior and
subsequent studies, to its culmination in ,The Family’. See: P 273
