These days, defining quality according
to internationally valid norms
as well as implementing these
norms has become a prerequisite in the
global economy. Certifications such as
ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 are considered
"must-haves". All those who are highly
active in Central and Eastern Europe,
such as Quehenberger Logistics, know
that uniform quality standards need to
be specially established in all countries.
MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING
Different mentalities and cultural circles
not only create their own approaches to
achieving goals, but also present a parti -
cular challenge for implementing uniform
quality norms. Hermann Költringer, Managing
Director for CEE, is convinced that
these are necessary: "Having standards
creates a common, transnational understanding
for customer services and key
account management, and especially uniform
operational processes. Customers
have to be able to expect all Quehenberger
companies to always work in the same way
everywhere."
USING REGIONAL EXPERIENCE
In 2010, the Salzburg logistics company
started embedding its quality, security and
environmental management in Quehenberger
Eastern Europe locations. Every
branch, in 13 countries at present, was
certified by the standards ISO 9001
(quality), 14001 (environment) and 18001
(security). The special method of the
Group is to establish uniform processes
whilst taking local experience into account.
"We've had employees with a lot of ex -
perience in dealing with customers, partners,
companies and authorities working
for us for many years. The difference lies
in the mix of regional expertise and inter-
national standards, we combine the best of
two worlds. Norms are essentially a means
to an end for good customer solutions“, as
Költringer explains.
IMPROVING WITH STANDARDS
For instance, when it comes to designing
new logistics solutions for Russian shopping
centres, installing white goods storage
spaces in Ukraine, or creating synergies by
establishing a better network for the automotive
industry in Romania. The fact that
this works is evident when looking at the
automotive logistics department of Quehenberger
Logistics Romania. "The new
system offers 'best practice standards' and
paves the way for a constant process of
improvement. We feel like we're connected
to an expressway that connects all relevant
processing points with one another in a
quick and direct way", as Laura Popa,
Director Operations of Quehenberger Logistics
in Bucharest, states. The integration
of branches in Eastern Europe will lead to
all customer orders being handled in a
uniform manner and according to general
quality standards, throughout all of
Europe.
