APCOA entwirft Parken der Zukunft
APCOA designs parking of the future
nachhaltig umzusetzen“, so
Veith. Aktuell betreibt APCOA in
Deutschland über 360 Parkräume,
darunter auch die drei Messestandorte
Stuttgart, Karlsruhe und
München. In Stuttgart gehört dazu
das weltweit einmalige Bosch-
Parkhaus über der Autobahn München-Stuttgart,
das Platz für über
4.000 Fahrzeuge bietet (Foto
oben).
In 2008 APCOA Autoparking GmbH laid down the standards
for the future. “The company reacted to the rising demand for
premium service provision in the parking industry”, states
Managing Director Thomas Veith. Car parks will have a particularly
user-friendly and standardised design in the years to come
(pages 3 and 4). The company will also provide new services to
meet motorists’ higher expectations. At Berlin-Schönefeld
Airport, parking spaces can now be reserved and paid for online
with a pre-booking system that points the way for other APCOA
sites (page 5). The new premium XXL parking and valet parking
services are also very popular with motorists. XXL parking provides
parking spaces for larger vehicles, such as Sports Utility
Vehicles (SUVs). With valet parking, the customer hands over
his vehicle to an APCOA employee, who will park it for him and,
on request, fill it up and have it washed, too. APCOA has also
created a forward-looking structure in Germany with three new
branch managers in the Northern, Eastern and Central regions.
“We have also expanded our Business Development department
in the north and south in order to implement our growth objectives
more effectively”, Mr. Veith goes on to say. Currently,
APCOA manages over 360 parking facilities in Germany,
including the three exhibition sites in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and
Munich. In Stuttgart this includes the internationally unique
Bosch car park astride the Munich-Stuttgart motorway, which
provides space for over 4,000 vehicles (see photo above).
APCOA investiert europaweit in die Gestaltung seiner Parkräume / APCOA to invest in corporate architecture
Parkhäuser sollen zur Marke werden
Car parks to become brand
gewerbliche Immobilien. Beispiel Einkaufszentrum: Im Einzelhandel
herrscht heute ein harter Verdrängungswettbewerb. In
der Innenstadt haben Premium-Quartiere die Nase vorn. „Dazu
With the help of designers and interior architects, APCOA
Group developed an interior architectural concept last year
for a clearer and friendlier design of its car parks. The European
market leader in car park management is driving forward the
development of its brand in this way. In the next few years, as
many as possible of the more than 4,800 APCOA car parks in
17 European countries will be systematically redesigned.
Success factor for commercial properties
APCOA anticipates a positive response to this investment,
particularly from property owners with whom the company has
concluded lease or management agreements. This is because an
attractive parking area is also a decisive factor for the success
of commercial properties. Take shopping centers, for example –
retail today is characterised by cut-throat competition and
in city centres premium areas have an advantage other than
the others. “This involves attractive parking facilities, as the
visitor’s first and last impression of a shopping center is the car
park,” according to APCOA Chief Executive Friedrich Schock.
Customers prefer to spend their money in places where they can
also park in a pleasant environment.
since 2008
Interview: Parken der Zukunft
„Das Parken mit zusätzlichen
Produkten kombinieren“
Welche Herausforderungen sehen Sie für die APCOA-Gruppe ?
Tjardo Siemens: Die Branche konsolidiert sich. Mittelfristig
so weiter. Mit der Beschilderung
wurde der APCOA-Slogan „The World
of Parking“ aufgegriffen. Der Parkbereich
„Athen“ ist mit der Akropolis gekennzeichnet
und der Bereich „Berlin“
mit dem Brandenburger Tor.
Interview: Parking of the future
“Combining parking with additional products”
What challenges do you anticipate for the APCOA Group?
Tjardo Siemens: The industry is undergoing consolidation. In
the medium-term there may be only two or three other major
providers apart from APCOA. Consequently, competition for
parking customers is going to increase.
How will APCOA react to this trend?
Dr Marc André Micha: With a completely new image towards
our customers. We will not only reinvent car park management
but will also combine parking with additional products. Just
imagine someone parking in an APCOA car park, then using his
car park ticket as an admission ticket to a football match, as a
ticket for the bus ride from the Park&Ride or as a discount card
in the shopping centre.
Tjardo Siemens: In addition, we are also going to be relying
more on the internet as a communication and sales platform.
Nowadays a considerable number of journeys are booked
online, which offers great potential for parking. The impending
paradigm shift in the automotive industry will also generate
huge opportunities, as our customers will be able to recharge
their electric cars or change their batteries in the car park itself.
How will your landlords profit from these developments?
Dr Marc André Micha: Through higher profits. Today the
APCOA brand represents market-leading pricing expertise and
maximum operational efficiency. These planned innovations
will provide our landlords with access to a greater number of
parking customers and a higher proportion of the entire
parking-related value added chain.
Functionality takes priority
An eye-catching cyan-blue direction system will help visitors
to APCOA car parks to find their way around in future. The
designers paid particular attention to ensuring that drivers can
find their cars as easily as possible on returning to the car
park. Stylised city images identify the different parking areas
and help the customer to find his way around. Athens represents
parking area A, Berlin area B, Cordoba area C and so on.
The APCOA slogan “The world of parking” was taken up by
these images. The “Athens” parking area is identified by the
Acropolis and the “Berlin” area by the Brandenburg Gate.
Neues Online-Parkplatz-Reservierungssystem
New online parking reservation system
The APCOA online parking area reservation
system has been in operation
on the Berlin Airport website since July
2008. For parking customers this now
means no more stress when looking for a parking space,
low pricing and a parking space close to the departure
terminal.
In the same way as airlines offer lower-priced tickets
when you make an early reservation, there is now a discounted
parking space when you reserve one well in advance.
A whole range of promotional offers are planned, such
as seasonal pricing or upgrades to better quality parking
spaces. The customer will be able to pay by credit card,
EC/Maestro card or by using PayPal. He will then use his
payment card at the barrier as an entrance ticket. The
reservation system will send out a receipt for the parking
fee by e-mail.
The system will provide benefits both for the customer
and also for the landlord. He will gain new clients and
thereby increase turnover. In addition, he will also improve
his position in search engines and his visibility vis-à-vis internet
users. This reservation system, developed by APCOA
and its partners, will in future be incorporated into the
websites of other contractual partners. Stuttgart and Düsseldorf
Airports will adopt the system in the next phase, after
which it will be implemented on the websites of exhibition
centres, hotels and travel agencies.
Marktführerschaft an Flughäfen ausgebaut
kreativen Marketingkampagne. Kundenwerbung auf Norwegisch
APCOA’s subsidiary EUROPARK won the tender for the car
park management of seven airports belonging to the airport
operator Avinor in Norway in the summer of 2008. Accordingly,
EUROPARK will manage Avinor’s airports in Stavanger, Bergen,
Trondheim, Tromsø, Bodø, Haugesund and Alta from 2009. Oslo
Airport (photo above) and Sandefjord Torp Airport are also
included in EUROPARK’s airport portfolio. According to APCOA’s
Northern Regional Director, Arne Molden, winning the tender
resulted from the reliable work we had done for Avinor over the
previous five years, during which time EUROPARK had been
managing airports for Avinor. EUROPARK’s performance during
this period was also impressive, thanks to an especially creative
marketing campaign. Customer advertising in Norwegian –
a total of 186 out of a possible 185 points in the competition
transporting suitcases, radio and mobile phone reception, extensive
