Die mädchenhaften Putti schmiegen sich traumverloren an
den Uhrenzylinder, die Rokokodame ruht sich gerade von der
Jagd aus, und der Putto unterbricht sein Flötenspiel: Gleich
drei Mal, zu Beginn, im Zenit und am Ende seines Engagements
für MEISSEN ® , widmete sich Paul Scheurich mit
subtilem und innovativem Witz dem Thema der Zeit.
Waren bei früheren MEISSEN ® -Uhren die Figuren dem
Gehäuse völlig untergeordnet, verwandeln sie sich nun zu
Hauptmotiven, während umgekehrt die Uhr die Funktion
des Attributs übernimmt. Bei Scheurichs erstem Chronograf
von 1920 befi ndet sich der Uhrenzylinder noch an zentraler
Position. Bei den späteren Modellen aus den Jahren 1932 und
1937 fungieren die kugelförmigen Uhren dann „nur noch“ als
Stütze für die bequeme Körperhaltung der Hauptfi guren. Wie
zufällig fügen sich die Zeitkugeln in eine vollendet harmonische
Formenästhetik – Scheurichs Meisterwerke sind symbolische
Triumphe über das Diktat der Zeit.

Some very feminine cherubs cling dreamily to the clock
cylinder, a rococo lady is taking a rest from the hunt, a cherub
takes a break from playing the fl ute: Paul Scheurich addressed
himself with subtle and innovative wit to the subject of time on
no fewer than three occasions while working for MEISSEN ® –
early on, at his peak and towards the end.
Whereas, with earlier MEISSEN ® clocks, the fi gures were
totally subordinated to the housing, they were now transformed
into principal motifs, with the clock in turn assuming
the role of an attribute. The clock cylinder is still centrally
located in Scheurich’s fi rst chronological offering from 1920.
In the later models from 1932 and 1937 respectively, however,
the spherical clocks “merely” serve as a convenient means of
support for the principal fi gures. It is seemingly by chance that
they are contained within an infi nitely harmonious aesthetic
whole – Scheurich’s masterpieces are symbolic triumphs over
the dictates of time.
