The situation is typical: a complex construction project
with high security standards, time pressure, tight
budgets. What happens next, everybody fears and nobody
needs. Construction problems, modification requests
by the principal, or mistakes in the drawings.
And there you are in a bit of a bind. “Quick and dirty”,
or quality taking into account certain delays.
“If you cannot draw back on your own construction
power, the situation gets difficult,” Marcus Krüger,
head of the Franzen assembly department since three
years, aptly describes the situation. “As subcontractors
are independent units, even the best partnership
leaves only limited influence if it is getting tough”,
Krüger continues. “That is why we have restructured
the 35 heads strong assembly department of Franzen
Group during the last two years.”
The requirements in industrial and commercial construc
tion have distinctly risen during the last few years.
In particular with construction sites with the highest
security standards such as power plants, for example.
Accordingly, heavy investments were made into the assembly
team: apprenticeship and in-service training,
perfect working equipment, and an optimum working
environment are required to deliver peak performance
in construction even under difficult conditions. At the
same time, the teams were reorganised. Old hands and
young blood should complement each other. Experience
as well as knowledge of the latest technologies
are thus combined to the benefit of the customer. The
teams are supported by the construction managers, the
assembly manager, and the safety expert as well as the
headquarters in Kottenheim with commercial management,
accounting and stock keeping departments.
The Franzen assembly team puts a special focus on
the subject of safety. Additionally, all the assembly
foremen are trained to be safety experts. After all, four
hours of assembly work in power plant construction
mostly require the same period of time for preparation
and work safety. Thus, there is optimisation potential.
This does help the customer. But above all, the Franzen
Group has available a rapid response team in their
own assembly unit to tend to unforeseeable problems.
A team that does everything to deliver utmost quality
even when time and budgets are tight. Works, that
subcontractors cannot carry out in this manner with
regard to quality and profitability.
Michael Franzen conclusively states at this point:
“The Franzen Group does not merely distribute
tasks – we still carry out important works in-house.
This particularly applies to assembling. As this is
our speciality we started on almost fifty years ago!”
immer
im Fokus.
In these heights, the
focus is always on
safety at work.
