Editorial Mit Vollgas ins Jahr 2008! Full speed ahead into the year 2008! Dear Readers, You hold in your hands the Scheffer News 2008. “Why does the new issue appear in a new design?” you might ask. There is one simple reason for this. The growth of the Scheffer companies is encouragingly positive at the moment, if not even dynamic. Following the return of crane technology to double-figure growth over recent years, metal construction technology also experienced a strong upturn in 2007. We have thus carried out many interesting projects in both companies which we would like to present to you in the new Scheffer News 2008. In view of the large number of reports, it was no longer possible to maintain the old design of a flyer. You are now looking at the new version: Our News in magazine form! In addition to the growth in turnover and profits, it is also extremely encouraging that we were able in the year 2007 to increase the number of employees within the company group by 15 qualified members of staff. We have also increased the number of trainees, in order to train up the qualified employees needed to ensure further growth. Despite intensified training however we still lack qualified employees in many areas. We are therefore working on the assumption that personnel levels will again be increased by 15% in the coming year. This must also be considered in the light of the fact that the planning for the relocation of Scheffer Metallbautechnik GmbH from the town centre to the Füchtorfer Straße in Sassenberg has now been started, and that we will hopefully be able to begin with the construction of the first phase in summer 2008. Part of window and facade production will initially be relocated to the Füchtorfer Straße, where further new production facilities will be constructed. The remaining production areas and administration will also be relocated here at a later date. Scheffer Krantechnik GmbH is already operating from here in the Füchtorfer Straße, and in May 2007 brought into operation a further 2,500 m² of production and warehouse area. Here, on a total area of 7,000 m², we are now producing crane and conveyor systems for our customers throughout Europe. Extending over 65,000 m², this site however still offers plenty of room for the alreadymentioned relocation of Scheffer metal construction technology. It is therefore clear to see that many things will be happening at Scheffer over the coming years. We continue to forge ahead at full speed. Capacity utilisation in both companies gives us good cause to look forward to the future with optimism. The crane technology sales team is already thinking about the year 2009, since the available capacity for 2008 is almost already sold out, despite the extension. With respect to capacity utilisation, Scheffer metal construction technology can also look forward confidently until autumn 2008. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to you, our customers, above all, for your many years of loyalty and the great confidence you have placed in us. It is you who have made our success possible. We therefore look forward to carrying out some interesting projects for you again in 2008, and once again pledge our total commitment to the successful completion of your orders. The whole team of Scheffer crane technology and Scheffer metal construction look forward to inspiring you with the fascination of Scheffer “cranes” and “facades” in the future! Herzlichst, Ihr Thomas Scheffer Cordially, your Thomas Scheffer 2 3
