grit or sand bedding. The initial reservations of the executing
contractors have largely been eliminated, the specifi c
problems that occurred with processing the materials
were solved.
Bound bedding
There currently exists no standard for this bedding. This
bedding is particularly prone to problems, as it takes a
great deal of time and expense to re-integrate slabs into
the bond once they have become detached from the bedding.
Joint
The joints are fi lled with mineral grit / crushed sand mixes
that are adjusted to the given bedding in order to avoid
leaching into the bedding. The fi lling of the joints of
bound slabs with bound joint fi llings has not yet been conclusively
solved.
Design possibilities
Among the most common color variations are:
» fair-faced concrete anthracite-gray and
» fair-faced concrete with white cement aggregate.
Possible surface variations are:
» fair-faced concrete,
» sand-blasted fair-faced concrete,
» acidifi ed fair-faced concrete,
» fair-faced concrete with manual broom strokes,
» fair-faced concrete with mechanical broom strokes and
» textured slabs.
Care and maintenance
High-quality large-format slabs, owing to their uniform
eff ect, are especially susceptible to dirt and damage. The
manufacturers of these slabs are called upon to provide
detailed instructions for their care and maintenance. Various
coatings are provided in an attempt to keep the slabs
clean. The devices used for maintaining these pavements
have moreover to be adjusted to the slab. Especially slabs
without chamfer can cause the most serious damage, or
even total wreckage, to snow pushers.
Risk potential
The most frequently encountered defects during the installation
of large-format concrete slabs can be listed as
follows:
» Diff erences in height in the pavement of more than
2 mm (often caused by a change in slope without using
sloping or cove slabs)
» Diff erences in color or texture in the slabs
» Defective joint pattern due to dimensional tolerances
» Damage caused by frost and de-icing salt
» Cracks in the slabs
» Damage caused by winter service and
» Contamination with dirt.

Flankenhaftung auf.
Gestalterische Möglichkeiten
Zu den häufi gsten Farbvariationen gehören:
» Sichtbeton anthrazit und
» Sichtbeton mit Weißzementzuschlag.
Mögliche Oberfl ächenvariationen sind:
» Sichtbeton,
» sandgestrahlter Sichtbeton,
» gesäuerter Sichtbeton,
» Sichtbeton mit manuellem Besenstrich,
» Sichtbeton mit maschinellem Besenstrich und
» Texturplatten.
Pfl ege und Wartung
Gerade hochwertige Großformatplatten sind aufgrund
ihrer einheitlichen Wirkung anfällig für Verschmutzungen
und Beschädigungen. Hier sind seitens der Hersteller
genaue Pfl ege- und Wartungsanleitungen erforderlich.
Vorbeugend wird versucht durch verschiedene
Beschichtungen Verschmutzungen zu verhindern. Ferner
ist die Auswahl der Pfl egegeräte auf die Platte abzustimmen.
Gerade bei Platten ohne Fase können Schneeschieber
größte Schäden bis hin zum Totalschaden
anrichten.
Risikopotenzial
Als häufi gste Mängel bei der Verlegung von großformatigen
Betonplatten lassen sich folgende Punkte aufzählen:
» Überzähne im Plattenbelag über 2 mm (Ursache ist
häufi g ein Gefällewechsel ohne Verwendung von Gefälle-
oder Kehlplatten),
» Farb- oder Texturunterschiede im Plattenmaterial,
» mangelhaftes Fugenbild durch Maßtoleranzen,
» Frost- und Tausalzschäden,
» Risse in den Platten,
» Schäden durch Winterdienst und
» Verschmutzungen.
