Although Linglong had an annual output of 6.6 million units in
2004, this figure will go up dramatically until 2009 when the
manufacturer will produce about 22.5 million units per year. So
Linglong is going to increase its capacities by about 240 per cent
within five years. In 2005 it produced 8.8 million units and in
2006 this already was 12.5 million. Contrary to what the company
announced in an earlier interview with Tyres & Accessories, the
new PC tyre factory won’t have a final production capacity of 16
million units but of 10 million units. The foundation stone was laid
this January and it is expected that the factory will produce its
first tyres at the end of this year. However, the factory won’t produce
at full steam before 2009. As Linglong announces, this new
factory will mainly produce PC tyres for export markets in Northern
America and in Europe. When it’s fully operational in 2009
the company will employ about 10,400 people; currently these
are 8,500 employees among which there are about 1,600 engineers.
The new factory which is currenty built without any external
technological support or jointventure partner for about 250 million
US dollars means another very important chapter in the
company’s capacity expansion story. Within only three years
(2006-2009) Linglong will increase its capacities by 80 per cent
and when the factory is producing its 10 million tyres in 2009
Linglong will be able to generate an annual turnover of 1.8 billion
US dollars. In the course of the coming years Linglong’s turnover
thus will grow annually by 30 per cent in average. Last year, the
company discloses to Tyres & Accessories, it generated an
annual turnover of 840 million US dollars; the year before it was
420 million (2004) and 660 million (2005). Comparing these
turnover figures with Linglong’s increase in output it is striking
that the company’s turnover is growing much stronger than the
company’s sales numbers. So, when Linglong in the course of
five years increases its annual output by about 240 per cent (see
above), it will increase its turnover by 328 per cent according estimates.
On the one hand, this can indicate a change in the product-price-mix,
on the other hand it can indicate growing export
business.
The current expansion project at Linglong is known under the
working title “project 1211”. Until the end of 2008 the company
wants to have an annual turnover of 10 billion RMB (1.315 million
USD) – the first 1 in “1211”. Until then the company will have produced
a total of 200 million tyres in its corporate history – the 2
in “1211”. And Linglong will employ more than 10,000 people (another
1) and wants to be a “number 1” tyre manufacturer recognised
in the whole world.
Last year Shandong Linglong manufactured about 12.5 million
tyres in its factory in Zhaoyuan in the Eastern Chinese coastal
province of Shandong. This figure is segmented liko follows: 53
per cent or 6.625 million PC tyres; 30 per cent or 3.75 million
truck tyres; 17 per cent or 3.825 million OTR tyres. 73 per cent of
the total production are radial tyres which is 9.125 million units. 8
million of these radial tyres are PCR tyres of which most tyres are
actually exported into Northern America and Europe. Linglong
currently exports a total of about 40 per cent of its output.
Apart from Linglong’s new PCR tyre factory which is currently
constructed on the premises, Shandong Linglong also announces
plans to build another new greenfield factory for truck tyres.
Being asked about this venture Linglong doesn’t disclose further
details except that the factory will produce radial truck tyres and

werde die neue Linglong-Fabrik am Standort Zhaoyuan
nicht 16 Millionen zusätzliche Pkw-Reifen produzieren können,
sondern lediglich zehn Millionen. Die offizielle Grundsteinlegung
der neuen Pkw-Reifenfabrik fand im Januar dieses Jahres statt
und sie soll bis Ende dieses Jahres fertiggestellt werden; unter
Volllast wird sie aber 2009 fertigen. Wie Linglong ankündigt, ziele
die Fabrik vorwiegend auf nordamerikanische und europäische
Exportmärkte ab. Ab 2009 beschäftigt das Unternehmen dann
10.400 Mitarbeiter; gegenwärtig sind dies 8.500, darunter wenigstens
1.600 Ingenieure.
Die neue Fabrik, die also gegenwärtig für rund 250 Millionen
US-Dollar und ohne Technologie- oder Jointventurepartner gebaut
wird, bedeutet für das Unternehmen einen weiteren Meilenstein
in Sachen Produktionskapazität, durch sie wird die Kapazität
im Vergleich zu 2006 um immerhin 80 Prozent gesteigert. Wenn
die Fabrik 2009 voll produziert, so rechnet Linglong vor, werde
der Hersteller einen Jahresumsatz in Höhe von gut 1,8 Milliarden
US-Dollar haben. Während der kommenden Jahre werde sich der
Umsatz um jährlich 30 Prozent steigern lassen. Im vergangenen
Jahr, so der Hersteller gegenüber dieser Zeitschrift weiter, habe
man 840 Millionen Dollar umgesetzt, während dies in den Jahren
zuvor noch 420 Millionen (2004) bzw. 660 Millionen Dollar
(2005) waren. Bei einem Vergleich dieser Umsatzzahlen mit den
Absatzzahlen fällt auf, dass sich die Umsätze wesentlich stärker
entwickeln als die Absätze. Während Linglong also, wie oben erwähnt,
seinen Output innerhalb von fünf Jahren um 240 Prozent
steigert, sollen die Umsätze im selben Zeitraum sogar um 328
Prozent steigen. Dies ist einerseits ein Indiz auf einen sich ändernden
Produktmix sowie auf zunehmende Exporte des Unternehmens.
Das gegenwärtige Expansionsprojekt ist bei Shandong Linglong
unter der Bezeichnung „Projekt 1211“ bekannt. Bis Ende
2008 möchte man einen Umsatz von zehn Milliarden Yuan haben
(1,315 Mrd. Dollar), die erste eins, wird man insgesamt 200 Millionen
Reifen gefertigt haben, die zwei, man werde dann 10.000
Mitarbeiter haben und – die letzte eins – als Nummer-1-Hersteller
weltweit bekannt sein.
Shandong Linglong fertigte im vergangenen Jahr also 12,5
Millionen Reifen in seiner Fabrik in Zhaoyuan in der ostchinesischen
Küstenprovinz Shandong. Die Produktion teilt sich folgendermaßen
auf: 53 Prozent bzw. 6,625 Millionen Pkw-Reifen, 30
Prozent bzw. 3,75 Millionen Lkw-Reifen und 17 Prozent bzw.
3,825 Millionen EM-Reifen; 73 Prozent der Reifen sind Radialreifen
(9,125 Mio., davon etwa 8 Mio. radiale Pkw-Reifen, von denen
der größte Teil exportiert wird); während 40 Prozent des gesamten
Outputs exportiert werden, also fünf Millionen Reifen, bleiben
60 Prozent im Land.
Neben der neuen Pkw-Reifenfabrik, die gegenwärtig am
Standort entsteht, plane Shandong Linglong in naher Zukunft
auch die Errichtung einer neuen Lkw-Reifenfabrik. Der Hersteller
nennt auf Anfrage keine weiteren Details zu diesen Plänen, außer
dass es sich dabei – natürlich – um Reifen radialer Bauweise
handeln werde und dass die Produktionskapazität der Anlage bei
rund zwei Millionen Reifen liegen soll. Darüber hinaus werde in
Zhaoyuan gegenwärtig die Errichtung eines Testgeländes geplant.
