2015 is another important trade fair year for HANSA-FLEX. In addition to multiple
national and international exhibitions, HANSA-FLEX will once again exhibit at
one of the largest international trade shows. We will attend this year’s Hannover
Messe for Industry (HMI) with a new trade fair stand measuring over 400 square
metres, where we will present our successful range as well as many new projects
and services.
One important new development that we will present is the expansion of our
pneumatics business field. We are significantly expanding our portfolio in this
area and adding more than 15,000 new products to our catalogue. As a result,
HANSA-FLEX now offers everything from a single source as a system partner
for fluid technology. Read more about this topic from page 8 in this issue of
HYDRAULIKPRESSE.
We will also use the HMI to present a further important service, which plays a central
role at HANSA-FLEX: our customer portal My.HANSA-FLEX, which enables you
to make even more effective use of our professional hose management services.
New control elements and functions supplement our portal’s former performance
features and optimise its user friendliness. For example, you can now use customised
parameters to set the replacement intervals for your hoses and hose lines and
sort and filter your data by your own specifications. Try it for yourself!
Further new digital services can also be found on page 7. Read all about our new
emergency message function, which enables you to request our mobile rapid hydraulic
service around the clock with just a few clicks in our free HANSA-FLEX app.

If you like tinkering with things, we also have something very special for you at
our trade fair stand: a replica of Leonardo da Vinci’s hydraulic saw, created true to

where the travelling exhibition ‘Leonardo da Vinci - Exploring Arts and Science’

DA VINCI ZIEHT UM
DA VINCI IS MOVING
Anfang Dezember war die Internationale Hydraulik
Akademie (IHA) in Dresden Treffpunkt
für den Branchentreff „Hydraulik“ des VDBUM.
In einem Eröffnungsvortrag erfuhren die Teilnehmer,
wie man mit einfachen Veränderungen mehr hydraulische
Leistung erzeugen kann. Im Anschluss machte
der Geschäftsführer der IHA, Ulrich Hielscher, auf die
Gefahren der Hydraulik aufmerksam. Arbeitssicherheit
ist nach wie vor ein wichtiges Thema im Umgang
mit Hydraulik. Ein Mitarbeiter der Firma Danfoss
erklärte verschiedene Einsatzmöglichkeiten der Hydraulik
in Baumaschinen und die entsprechenden
Funktionsweisen. Abschließend fiel einem Vertreter
der Firma Kleenoil-Panolin die Aufgabe zu, einen Vortrag
zum heiß diskutierten Branchenthema „Bioöl“
zu halten. Der Branchentag „Hydraulik“ des VDBUM
findet in jährlichem Rhythmus statt und bietet umfassende
Informationsmöglichkeiten zum Thema. •
Die von der HANSA-FLEX Stiftung gesponserte
Wanderausstellung „DA VINCI – Exploring Arts
& Science“ ist seit dem 20. Februar in Hamburg
zu sehen. Nach erfolgreichen Stationen in Bremen
und Berlin ist die Freie Hansestadt das nächste Ziel
der Nachbauten Leonardo da Vincis. Waren die Holzexponate
und Gemäldedrucke zuvor noch in extra
angefertigten Zeltkonstruktionen ausgestellt, wird
in Hamburg-Altona in der Van-der-Smissen-Straße
eine Halle bereitstehen. Insgesamt haben bislang
mehr als 100.000 Menschen die Ausstellung während
ihrer Stationen in Bremen und Berlin besucht,
darunter viele hundert Schulklassen. Letztere kamen
vor allem wegen des Experimentcharakters: Viele der
Exponate können berührt und ausprobiert werden.
Erfindungen da Vincis, die noch nie zuvor nachgebaut
und ausgestellt worden sind, werden hier direkt
erlebbar. Und auch die großen und bekannten Kunstwerke
des Universalgenies – die Mona Lisa oder der
vitruvianische Mensch – können hier als hochwertige
Kopien bestaunt werden. Für die Hamburger Station
wird die Ausstellung um zwei neue Modelle nach den
Plänen da Vincis erweitert. Eine Säulenhebeanlage
kommt hinzu, der „Doppelte Bootsrumpf“ wurde
überarbeitet und ist jetzt wieder Teil der Sammlung.
Einige aus Italien geliehene Modelle wurden von
den Organisatoren der Ausstellung durch neue, noch
skizzengetreuere Nachbauten ersetzt. Weitere Informationen

At the start of December, VDBUM held its ‘Hydraulics’
sector conference at the International
Hydraulics Academy (IHA) in Dresden. In an
opening speech, the attendees discovered how you
can generate far more hydraulic power with just a
few simple changes. Subsequently, IHA Managing
Director Ulrich Hielscher raised awareness of the risks
of hydraulics; occupational health and safety remains
an important topic when dealing with hydraulics. An
employee from the company Danfoss explained several
application areas for hydraulics in construction
machinery and how such hydraulics work. Finally, a
representative of the company Kleenoil-Panolin gave
a presentation on the hotly discussed sector topic of
bio-oil. The VDBUM sector ‘hydraulics’ day takes place
annually and offers a broad array of information
about the topic. •
The HANSA-FLEX-sponsored touring exhibition
‘Leonardo Da Vinci – Exploring Arts & Science’ is
open to visitors in Hamburg since 20 February.
After successful stops in Bremen and Berlin, the Free
Hanseatic city is the next destination for the replicas
of Leonardo da Vinci’s work. Whereas the wooden
exhibits and prints were previously displayed in specially
created pavilions, in Hamburg-Altona, a hall is
being provided for use on Van-der-Smissen-Straße.
During its time in Bremen and Berlin, the exhibition
was visited by more than 100,000 people, including
hundreds of classes of school children. These
were particularly captivated by the exhibition’s experimental
character: many of the exhibits can be
touched and tried out. Inventions by da Vinci that
have never before been replicated and exhibited can
now be directly experienced. Visitors can also enjoy
high-quality replicas of the universal genius’s most
famous works of art, including the Mona Lisa and the
Vitruvian man. For the stop in Hamburg, the exhibition
is being expanded to include two new models
that have been made in line with da Vinci’s plans: a
pillar lifting system has been added and the ‘double
boat hull’ has been reworked and has now rejoined
the collection. The organisers have also replaced several
models that were on loan from Italy with new
replicas, still true to da Vinci’s diagrams. Further information

Christian Geister hat seine Abschlussprüfung
zum Industriekaufmann mit Auszeichnung
bestanden und wurde dafür von HANSA-FLEX
geehrt: Sein Ausbilder Eric Heber, Ausbildungsleiter
Reiner Plöger sowie Bereichsleiter Axel Tammen und
Geschäftsbereichsleiter Ralph Berge überreichten
dem erfolgreichen Prüfling einen Erlebnis-Gutschein
im Wert von 300 Euro. „Wir möchten damit diese
hervorragende Leistung honorieren und freuen uns,
dass Herr Geister dem Unternehmen weiterhin erhalten
bleibt,“ so Reiner Plöger über seinen Schützling.
Christian Geister wurde von seiner Ausbildungsniederlassung
in Dresden-Weixdorf übernommen und
ist dort weiterhin für HANSA-FLEX tätig. •

Die HANSA-FLEX Stiftung unterstützt das Bochabela
Youth String Orchestra aus Südafrika
als Toursponsor während ihrer Tournee durch
Deutschland, Österreich und die Schweiz. Die Tournee
begann am 6. Januar in Bremen und führt die ca. 30
Orchestermitglieder im Alter von 16 bis 26 Jahren neben
Hannover und Berlin unter anderem auch in Konzertsäle
in Salzburg, Wien und Zürich. Das Programm
der Streicher umfasst klassische Stücke wie auch typisch
afrikanische Melodien. Mit dem Erlös der Tournee
sollen Studienplätze im Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium,
Österreich, für zwei hochbegabte südafrikanische
Musiker finanziert werden. Das Ensemble aus den
Townships von Bloemfontein in Südafrika ist eines der
ungewöhnlichsten Streichorchester der Welt. Unter der
Leitung des amerikanischen Kontrabassisten Peter Guy
ist seit 1998 ein blühendes Projekt – Mangaung String
Programme – entstanden, das den jungen Menschen
in den armen Siedlungen eine Perspektive bietet. Dabei
findet in ihren Auftritten klassische Musik sowie
die Lebensfreude Afrikas eine begeisterte Stimme. Das
Bochabela Youth String Orchestra ist ein Orchester, das
aus diesem Projekt hervorgegangen ist. •

The HANSA-FLEX Foundation is acting as a sponsor
and supporting the South African Bochabela
Youth String Orchestra during its tour of Germany,
Austria and Switzerland. The tour began in
Bremen on 6 January and takes the 30 or so orchestra
members aged 16 to 26 to concert halls in cities such
as Hanover, Berlin, Salzburg, Vienna and Zurich. The
string orchestra’s programme includes both classical
pieces and typical African melodies. The profits from
the tour will be used to finance study places at the
Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium (Vorarlberg Music
Academy), Austria, for two highly talented South
African musicians. The ensemble from the townships
of Bloemfontein in South Africa is one of the
most extraordinary string orchestras in the world.
Managed by the American double-bass player Peter
Guy, a blossoming project known as the Mangaung
String Programme has existed since 1998 to offer
future prospects to the young people from the impoverished
settlements. Both classical pieces and the
African zest for life find an enthusiastic voice in the
performances. The Bochabela Youth String Orchestra
was created as a result of this project. •

In der Produktionstechnik kommen neben
hydraulischen Anlagen auch verstärkt pneumatisch
gesteuerte Prozesse zum Einsatz. Der
Grund dafür ist einfach: In verschiedenen Szenarien
ist Pneumatik schlicht wirtschaftlicher als
Hydraulik. Große Kräfte können mit dieser Technik
zwar nicht erzeugt werden, ver schiedenste
Schaltungen lassen sich damit aber sehr kostengünstig
und präzise realisieren. Schließlich steht
das Übertragungsmedium Luft unbegrenzt zur
Verfügung. HANSA-FLEX hat sich mit dem Thema
befasst und den Markt sorgfältig analysiert.
Das Ergebnis dieser Evaluation: HANSA-FLEX erweitert
sein Angebot signifikant im Pneumatik-
Bereich mit ca. 15.000 neuen Artikeln.
ECHTER MEHRWERT
„Als Systempartner für Fluidtechnik behalten wir
selbstverständlich das Produktionsumfeld unserer
Kunden im Blick“, erklärt Andreas Sauer, Key Account
Manager von HANSA-FLEX. „Mit dem Ausbau unseres
Pneumatikangebots tragen wir den Bedürfnissen
unserer Kunden Rechnung und schaffen für
sie einen echten Mehrwert.“ Dieser liegt darin, dass
HANSA-FLEX jetzt sowohl für Hydraulik- als auch für
Pneumatik-Anlagen umfassenden Service aus einer
Hand zur Verfügung stellt. Zahlreiche Branchen
nutzen Hydraulik und Pneumatik in Produktionsprozessen
kombiniert. Beispielsweise bei Spritzguss-,
Betonmisch- oder Biogasanlagen kommen beide
Technologien zum Einsatz. Sortier- oder Positionieraufgaben
übernimmt die Pneumatik, kraftintensive
Prozesse mit hohem Druck werden hydraulisch bewältigt.
Nicht wenige Experten sehen dies als Kombination
der Zukunft an. „Da ist es sinnvoll, wenn ein
Servicepartner alle Bereiche abdecken kann“, so Andreas
Sauer. Ein weiterer Vorteil für die HANSA-FLEX
Kunden liegt in dem geringeren administrativen
Aufwand. Bei konsolidierter Lieferantenzahl sinken
Beschaffungs- und Verwaltungskosten. Gleichzeitig
gibt es auch auf der Logistikseite Entlastung: Die
Ersatzteilbestände im Lager können sehr gering
bleiben, da der HANSA-FLEX Service alle notwenigen
Komponenten für die Wartung mitbringt.
DICHTES SYSTEM
Voraussetzung für den wirtschaftlichen Einsatz
pneumatischer Produktionsprozesse ist die Dichtigkeit
des Systems. Für die Erzeugung der Druckluft mit
Kompressoren muss reichlich Energie aufgewendet
werden. Da sollte möglichst wenig pneumatische
Energie durch Leckagen entweichen. „Um diese Herausforderung
zu meistern, verwenden wir nur sehr
hochwertige Ersatzteile“, erklärt Andreas Sauer.
„Auch unter diesem Gesichtspunkt ist die Erweiterung
unseres Produktportfolios neben dem Bereich
der Hydraulik in Richtung Pneumatik ein logischer
Schritt.“
ABGESTIMMTES SORTIMENT
Das erweiterte Artikelangebot umfasst Komponenten
aus allen Bereichen, die dem Kompressor
nachgeschaltet sind. So gibt es Elemente für Druckluftaufbereitung,
Drucklufttransport und Druckluftverbraucher.
Das Sortiment ist dabei sorgfältig abgestimmt,
sodass eine umfassende Versorgung von
Kunden mit pneumatischen Systemen gewährleistet
ist. Beispielsweise hält HANSA-FLEX Zylinder und
Komponenten aus der Ventiltechnik vor. Elemente
für die Wartung und zur Verbindung von Druckluftleitungen
gehören ebenfalls dazu. Hinzu kommen
Messgeräte, beispielsweise für Druck und Temperatur
sowie Artikel zur Vakuumtechnik. „Mit unserem
breit gefächerten Sortiment decken wir alle Bereiche
des pneumatischen Systems ab“, so Andreas Sauer.

HANSA-FLEX EXPANDS ITS RANGE OF PNEUMATIC PRODUCTS

HANSA-FLEX is increasing its commitment to the pneumatics sector. In doing so, the fluid
technology expert is expanding its portfolio and positioning itself as a holistic system
partner for hydraulics and pneumatics. HANSA-FLEX will present the range for the
compressed air sector, which has been expanded to include about 15,000 new products,
at Hannover Messe 2015 (13 to 17 April, hall 21, stand D30).
In the field of production technology, it is not
just hydraulic systems that are used but, with
increasing frequency, pneumatically controlled
processes. The reason for this is simple: in several
situations, pneumatics are simply more economical
than hydraulics. Although this technology
cannot generate huge forces, the broadest range
of circuits can be created cost-effectively and precisely.
After all, there is an infinite supply of the
transfer medium of air. HANSA-FLEX has taken a
close look at this topic and carefully analysed the
market. The result of this evaluation: HANSA-FLEX
is significantly expanding its pneumatics range
to include approx. 15,000 new products.
AIRTIGHT SYSTEM
Pneumatic production processes can only be effciently
used if a system is airtight. It takes a great deal
of energy to create compressed air with compressors
and as little pneumatic energy as possible should be
lost due to leaks. “We overcome this challenge by
only using spare parts of extremely high quality”, explains
Andreas Sauer. “From this persp ective again,
the expansion of our product range to include not
only hydraulic products but also pneumatic ones is
a logical step.”
CAREFULLY ALIGNED RANGE
REAL ADDED VALUE
“As a system partner for fluid technology, we naturally
also keep an eye on our customers’ production
environment”, explains Andreas Sauer, key account
manager at HANSA-FLEX. “By expanding our pneumatics
range, we are taking our customers’ needs
into account and creating real added value for them.”
This is based on the fact that HANSA-FLEX now offers
comprehensive services from a single source for
both hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Several sectors
use a combination of hydraulics and pneumatics
in their production processes, for example in injection
moulding, concrete mixing or biogas systems.
Sorting and positioning tasks are pneumatically
controlled while high-force processes involving high
pressures are hydraulically managed.
The expanded product range includes components
from all areas that are positioned downstream of the
compressor, for example elements for compressed
air preparation and transportation as well as for units
that consume compressed air. The range has been
carefully aligned to ensure that customers can be
comprehensively supplied with pneumatic systems.
For instance, HANSA-FLEX stocks cylinders and components
from the valve technology field. Elements
for maintenance and the connection of compressed
air lines are also available, as are measuring instruments,
for example for pressure and temperature,
and vacuum technology products. “Our broad range
of products covers all areas of pneumatic systems”,
states Andreas Sauer. “We are therefore sensiblyexpanding
our range and can supply everything from
a single source”, explains Andreas Sauer. •
Many experts regard this as the combination of the
future. “It therefore makes sense for a service partner
to be able to cover all areas”, comments Andreas
Sauer. A further benefit for HANSA-FLEX customers
is in the form of the low administrative workload.
The consolidated number of suppliers reduces the
procurement and management costs. The logistics
side of things also becomes easier: few spare parts
need to be stored in warehouses as the HANSA-FLEX
service team supplies all the components required
for maintenance tasks.

BSH HAUSGERÄTE PROFITIERT VOM FULL-SERVICE-ANGEBOT

Ob Industrieservice, Fluidservice oder 24-Stunden-Service: Das Serviceangebot von HANSA-FLEX zeichnet sich durch hohe Zuverlässigkeit,
hohe Geschwindigkeit und kurze Wege aus. Für das Staubsaugerwerk der BSH Hausgeräte GmbH in Bad Neustadt sind die Wege noch
kürzer. Der Grund dafür ist einfach: Das Werk und die dortige HANSA-FLEX Niederlassung sind direkte Nachbarn.

bei der HANSA-FLEX Niederlassung in
Bad Neustadt. Wenn er oder sein Niederlassung-Team
um Werkstattleiter Sascha Diemar
zu einem Serviceeinsatz gerufen werden, nutzen
sie eines der modernen, komplett ausgestatteten
Servicefahrzeuge. Bei der BSH Hausgeräte GmbH
können sie aber in der Regel darauf verzichten.

Deutschlands größtes Staubsaugerwerk gehört seit
1996 zur BSH und muss sich jeden Tag aufs Neue im

Kunststoffmaschinen arbeitet die Hydraulik mit einem
maximalen Betriebsdruck von 170 bar. „Unsere
Produktion steht und fällt mit prozesssicheren Anlagen
und Maschinen. Wir sind froh, mit HANSA-FLEX
einen kompetenten Systempartner in der direkten
Nachbarschaft zu haben, der einen kompletten
Hydraulik-Service bietet“, erklärt Marco Geis, Leiter
Instandhaltung bei BSH.
EFFIZIENTE MATERIALLOGISTIK
Mit der Eröffnung des Standorts Bad Neustadt im
Jahr 2008 eröffneten sich neue Möglichkeiten der
Kundenbetreuung. Die Nähe ermöglicht einen
noch schnelleren Service. BSH kann inzwischen auf
ein eigenes Lager für Ersatzteile wie Schläuche,
Verschraubungen, Dichtungen und Ventile sowie
Verbrauchsmaterialien größtenteils verzichten.
Das Unternehmen reduziert dadurch seine Lagerhaltungskosten
bei einer gleichzeitig optimalen
Versorgung, da HANSA-FLEX alle Teile ständig auf
Lager hält. Bei Bestellungen erleichtert der X-CODE
von HANSA-FLEX die Ersatzteilbeschaffung enorm.
Der alphanumerische Code identifiziert sämtliche
Produktmerkmale von hydraulischen Verbindungselementen
– präzise wie ein Fingerabdruck. „Missverständnisse
sind damit ausgeschlossen. Ersatzteile
stehen uns jederzeit kurzfristig zur Verfügung, die
Konfektionierung von Schläuchleitungen erfolgt dabei
ohne zeitaufwändige Rückfragen“, berichtet Geis
aus der Praxis.
MEHRWERT DURCH SERVICE
HANSA-FLEX Bad Neustadt hat – wie auch an anderen
Standorten – das Angebot an Produkten und
Dienstleistungen auf die Anforderungen der Kunden
abgestimmt. „Selbstverständlich decken wir auch
in Bad Neustadt das komplette Programm ab. Wir
haben zusätzlich einen Schwerpunkt auf Spritzguß
gelegt“, erklärt Cilluffo.

Produktion bei“, sagt Geis. So gewährleistet beispielsweise
der Fluidservice eine effektive Ölpflege,

bis hin zum Produktionsausfall zuverlässig zu
vermeiden. Die Hydraulikspezialisten des Industrieservices
übernehmen Inspektion, Wartung und Instandhaltung
von Maschinen direkt im Werk. Selbst
die Optimierung oder ein kompletter Umbau von
Produktionsanlagen durch HANSA-FLEX ist möglich.
24-STUNDEN-SERVICE
Für den Fall der Fälle bietet die Niederlassung auch

ein Einsatz vor Ort erforderlich sein, ist ein Kundendienstmitarbeiter

If he or anyone else from his team under
workshop manager Sascha Diemar is called for
a service job, the modern, fully equipped service
vehicles are used. When assisting BSH Hausgeräte
GmbH, however, the use of a vehicle is often not
necessary. This is because the two companies are
neighbours. Germany’s largest vacuum cleaner
plant has been owned by BSH since 1996 and has
to face global competition every single day. The
company therefore uses the latest production
processes for the world-famous vacuum cleaner
fans and high-precision, multi-component, large
plastic parts. In this environment, downtime
is business critical, making reliable service extremely
important.
A SOUGHT-AFTER ONE-STOP

This particularly applies to the maintenance of the
hydraulic components used in the production process.
Eight toolmakers, four fitters and four electricians
are responsible for servicing at BSH. Their area
of responsibility includes 28 injection moulding machines
that are used to produce plastic housing components

ing pressure of 170 bar. “Process-reliable systems and

Geis, head of servicing at BSH.
EFFICIENT MATERIAL LOGISTICS
The opening of the Bad Neustadt site in 2008 brought
about new customer service opportunities. The proximity
enabled even faster services. In most cases, BSH
now no longer needs its own warehouse for spare
parts such as hoses, screw fittings, seals, valves and
consumable materials. The company has therefore
reduced its warehousing costs while retaining the
same optimum supply level because HANSA-FLEX
constantly keeps all parts in stock. The HANSA-FLEX
X-CODE makes ordering and the spare parts procurement
process far simpler. The alphanumeric code
identifies all product features of hydraulic connection
elements – as precisely as a fingerprint. “This eliminates
the possibility of misunderstandings. Spare
parts are always available to us quickly and the hose
lines can be assembled without any time-consuming
queries”, reports Geis from experience.

“We naturally

but we also specialise in injection moulding”, explains
Cilluffo.
This is something that BSH particularly values: “The
fluid service and industrial service divisions play a
major role in safeguarding system availability in our
production facilities”, comments Geis. For example,
the fluid service division ensures effective oil servicing
in order to reliably prevent excessive component
wear and thus disruptions and even production
downtime. The hydraulic specialists in the industrial
service division are responsible for inspecting, maintaining
and servicing machines on site in the plant.
HANSA-FLEX can even provide optimisation services
and completely refurbish production systems.
24-HOUR SERVICE
The branch also offers the popular mobile rapid hydraulic
service for emergencies. If on-site assistance is required,
a customer service employee with a fully equipped
workshop vehicle can be contacted around the clock.
Hoses are assembled and repairs conducted in the service
vehicle itself to keep downtime to a minimum.

RETROFITTING VON PAPIERMASCHINEN

Günstiger als eine Neuanschaffung, leistungsfähiger als eine gebrauchte Anlage und dem Prinzip der Nachhaltigkeit verpflichtet: Die
Modernisierung von Anlagen und Maschinen liegt voll im Trend. Beim Retrofitting zweier Papiermaschinen durch die GapCon GmbH spielte
der HANSA-FLEX Industrieservice eine wichtige Rolle. Galt es doch, neben der Überarbeitung der beiden Maschinen auch Montagedienstleistungen
vor Ort in England und in den Niederlanden zu übernehmen.
Die GapCon GmbH in Willich bei Düsseldorf
hat sich auf Komponenten, Maschinen und
Dienstleistungen für die Herstellung und
Veredelung von Papier und Kartonnagen spezialisiert.
Dabei gewinnt das Retrofitting zunehmend
an Bedeutung. Ob neue oder gebrauchte Anlagen:
Fluid-Technologie ist in der Papierindustrie
unverzichtbar. Umso wichtiger ist die Wahl des
richtigen Partners: „Wir schätzen HANSA-FLEX als
zuverlässigen Systempartner, der nicht nur über
ein komplettes Sortiment verfügt, sondern uns
auch durch maßgeschneiderte Dienstleistungen
und kompetente Beratung unterstützt“, erklärt
Stefan Raven, Einkaufsleiter bei GapCon.
Auch die irische Smurfit Kappa Group, nach eigenen
Angaben die europäische Nr. 1 bei Verpackungen aus
Pappe, setzt beim Retrofitting auf GapCon. Der Verpackungshersteller
hatte in Italien zwei Papiermaschinen
gekauft, die er für seine Werke in Roermond
(Niederlande) und Townsend (England) modernisieren
ließ. Neben der Überarbeitung der Maschinen
durch GapCon, bei der HANSA-FLEX Komponenten
zum Einsatz kamen, war die Neuverrohrung am neuen
Standort eine zentrale Herausforderung. Schließlich
umfassten die Fluidleitungen unter anderem
auch Rohre für die Hydraulik mit einem Betriebsdruck
von 150 bar und Druckspitzen bis zu 300 bar.
„HANSA-FLEX ist für uns erster Ansprechpartner in
Sachen Hydraulik. Der HANSA-FLEX Industrieservice
konnte ein exakt auf unsere Anforderungen abgestimmtes
Angebot abgeben, das die komplette
Verrohrung der Maschinen beinhaltete“, berichtet
GapCon-Oberbauleiter Georg Kamphausen.
VIELFÄLTIGE VERROHRUNG
Nicht nur in der Papierverarbeitung steht und fällt
das Retrofitting mit einer zuverlässigen Verrohrung,
die eine leckagefreie Produktion und saubere
Endprodukte garantiert. Ein komplexes Rohrsystem
versorgt die Papiermaschine mit Luft, Vakuum, Kühlwasser,
Fett und Hydrauliköl. Entsprechend vielfältig
fielen die Rohrleitungen aus: Zum Einsatz kamen
Edelstahl-, Dünnblech-, Falz- und Präzisionsrohre
in den unterschiedlichsten Rohrdurchmessern von
8 bis 133 mm, die das HANSA-FLEX Montageteam
entweder per Schweißen, Bördeln, Pressen oder mit
einer Mutter-Schneidring-Kombination zu verbinden
hatte. Zusätzlich zum Rohrleitungsbau kamen auch
diverse Schlauchleitungen aus dem umfangreichen
HANSA-FLEX Sortiment zum Einsatz.
BRANDSCHUTZ GEWÄHRLEISTET
Papiermaschinen weisen gewaltige Dimensionen
auf: Anlagen, die sich über mehrere Stockwerke
erstrecken, sind in der Branche die Regel, nicht die
Ausnahme. Gewaltig sind vielfach auch die Anforderungen
an den Rohrleitungsbau. Dabei nimmt
der Brandschutz eine Schlüsselrolle ein. Denn nicht
immer ist die direkte Verbindung zwischen zwei
Punkten aus Brandschutzgründen zulässig. Ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal
von HANSA-FLEX sind hier
die gegen Brand geschützten, zertifizierten Wanddurchführungen,
die gemeinsam mit dem Bohrtechnikspezialisten
Hilti entwickelt wurden. „Wir
können als einziger Anbieter von Hydraulik-Technik
Schläuche mit zugelassenem Brandschutz verbauen.
Damit sind wir in der Lage, bei Großmontagen
direktere Verlegungswege für unsere Schlauch- und
Rohrleitungen zu finden und so die Kosten für unsere
Kunden zu minimieren und dabei auch die Komplexität
der Anlagen zu reduzieren“, bringt Frank Drietz,
Projektbetreuer im Industrieservice bei HANSA-FLEX,
die Vorteile für die Kunden auf den Punkt.
MONTAGE VOR ORT
Nach dem erfolgreichen Abschluss der Arbeiten in
den Niederlanden folgten Überarbeitung und Montage

betreibt, stellte der Industrieservice ein abgestimmtes
Material- und Werkzeug-Paket zusammen, das
in zwei Containern nach Townsend transportiert
wurde. Vor Ort nutzten die Montagespezialisten
von HANSA-FLEX die beiden Container als Lager und
Werkstatt. „Wir profitieren besonders davon, dass wir
bei HANSA-FLEX den kompletten Service aus einer
Hand erhalten – unabhängig vom Einsatzort“, erklärt
Georg Kamphausen. „Eine reine Verrohrungsfirma
hätte wohl Schwierigkeiten gehabt, weil sie sich
das Material erst beschaffen muss. Die schnelle und
zuverlässige Versorgung mit dem richtigen Material
und die qualifizierte Verarbeitung sehe ich aber als
wesentliche Schlüsselfaktoren für die Montagedienstleistungen
an.“

An Retrofitting-Projekten dieser Größenordnung
sind unterschiedliche Lieferanten und Dienstleister

The success of the retrofitting process depends on
reliable and leak-free pipework.
Cheaper than buying new, better performance than second-hand systems and committed to the principle of sustainability: the refurbishment
of systems and machines is a clear current trend. The HANSA-FLEX industrial service department played an important role
when GapCon GmbH retrofitted two paper machines. This is because in addition to reworking the two machines, on-site installation
services were also required in both England and the Netherlands.

of paper and cardboard. The importance of retrofitting
in this sector is constantly growing. And
whether new or used systems, fluid technology is
essential for the paper industry – which makes
choosing the right partner even more important:
“We value HANSA-FLEX as a reliable system partner
that not only offers a complete product range
but also supports us with custom services and
professional advice”, explains Stefan Raven, head
of purchasing at GapCon.
The Irish Smurfit Kappa Group, which bills itself as
Europe’s leading provider of paper-based packaging,
also relies on GapCon for its retrofitting requirements.
The packaging manufacturer purchased two
paper machines in Italy and had them refurbished for
its plants in Roermond (Netherlands) and Townsend
(England). In addition to GapCon’s reworking of the
machines (including using HANSA-FLEX components),
one of the central challenges was installing
the new pipework at the new sites. After all, the fluid
lines included pipes for hydraulics with an operating
pressure of 150 bar and pressure peaks of up to 300
bar. “When it comes to hydraulics, HANSA-FLEX is
always our first point of call. The HANSA-FLEX industrial
service department was able to provide us with
an offer that was precisely tailored to our requirements
and covered all the pipe installation needs for
the machines”, reports GapCon senior site engineer
Georg Kamphausen.
DIVERSE PIPEWORK
It is not just for paper finishing that the success of
the retrofitting process depends on reliable pipework
that ensures leak-free production and clean end
products. A complex pipe system supplies the paper
machine with air, vacuums, cooling water, grease
and hydraulic oil. The range of pipe designs was
equally as diverse as the range of functions: stainless
steel, thin sheet metal, folding and precision pipes
with diameters ranging from 8 to 133 mm were used.
The HANSA-FLEX installation team had to connect all
of these by welding, flanging, compression or with
nuts and cutting rings. As well as pipework, several
hose lines from the broad HANSA-FLEX range were
also used.
FIRE PROTECTION GUARANTEED
Paper machines have huge dimensions: systems with
multi-storey heights are the norm in the sector, not the
exception. The requirements relating to the pipework
are also equally as immense. Fire protection takes on
a key role here. This is because direct connections between
two points are sometimes not permitted for fire
protection reasons. One of HANSA-FLEX’s unique selling
points is that it offers wall ducts that are certified
as protected against fire. It developed these in cooperation
with the drilling technology specialist Hilti.
“We are the only hydraulic technology provider that
can install hoses with certified fire protection. When
working on large-scale installations, this enables us to
find direct routes when laying our hose lines and pipes
and to thus minimise the costs for our customers and
reduce system complexity”, comments Frank Drietz,
industrial service project manager at HANSA-FLEX, in
summary of the advantages for customers.
ON-SITE INSTALLATION
Once the work had been successfully completed in
the Netherlands, the second paper machine was
refurbished and installed in Townsend, England. As
HANSA-FLEX does not have a branch there, the industrial
service department created a customised package
of materials and tools and had it transported to
Townsend in two containers. On site, the HANSA-FLEX
installation specialists used the two containers as their
warehouse and workshop. “We particularly benefit
from the fact that HANSA-FLEX can offer us a full service
from a single source – wherever sites are located”,
Georg Kamphausen explains. “A company solely specialising
in pipework would have experienced difficulties
as it would first have had to procure the right materials.
However, I regard the quick and reliable supply
of the right materials and professional workmanship
as key factors in the success of the installation services.”
EFFICIENT COOPERATION
Retrofitting projects on this sort of scale involve multiple
suppliers and service providers, whose work and
services have to be coordinated. “The reliability, flexibility
and team working ability of all those involved are
crucial to the success of a project”, states Kamphausen
from experience. “What you need are system providers
like HANSA-FLEX who can not only seamlessly
integrate themselves into a team but also quickly find
intelligent solutions to unforeseen challenges.” Gap-

satisfied: “The working relationship was exactly as we

Formwerkzeuge, mit denen Bauteile gepresst
werden, sind oft sehr groß. Auch bei der
exaktesten Fertigung lassen sich teilweise
kleine Toleranzen nicht vollständig vermeiden.
Tuschierpressen drücken deshalb die Hälften
der Formwerkzeuge außerhalb des Produktionsprozesses
zusammen, um selbst kleinste Abweichungen
zu finden und zu beseitigen. Dazu färbt
ein Facharbeiter mit blauer Farbe das Formwerkzeug
ein – dann startet die Tuschierpresse. An
den Abdruckspuren erkennt der Spezialist, ob die
Formhälften richtig schließen. „Wenn das Werkzeug
nicht richtig funktioniert, steht solange
Nacharbeit an, bis es passt“, sagt Michele Pilling,
Projektleiter bei Millutensil s.r.l. aus Mailand.
„Erst wenn es endtuschiert ist, darf es in Betrieb
gehen.“
Bevor eine Tuschierpresse jedoch ihren Dienst aufnehmen
kann, steht ein großer logistischer Aufwand

an. Denn die Maschinen sind oft mehrere Stockwerke
hoch und arbeiten dennoch mit höchster Präzision.
Raum für Toleranzen gibt es nicht. BMW orderte eine
Presse des Typs MIL, die sich für mittlere und große
Formen (unter anderem Thermoplast-, Druckguss
und Gummiwerkzeuge) eignet. Diese Pressen arbeiten
mit einer maximalen Schließkraft von 5.000 KN
und einem maximalen Betriebsdruck von 300 bar.
Das bedeutet: große Ansprüche an die hydraulischen
Komponenten. Bei einem solchen Projekt über Lan-
desgrenzen hinweg benötigt Millutensil daher einen
Partner, der nicht nur einen kompletten Hydraulik-
Service anbietet, sondern auch international aufgestellt

A die and mould spotting press does not produce anything. Yet despite this, it is an indispensable piece of equipment in many companies
as it makes it possible to check the precise functioning of mould tools before they are used in production. BMW ordered a die and
mould spotting press for its Landshut plant from Millutensil in Milan. HANSA-FLEX took on responsibility for the hydraulic components
by means of international cooperation between the branches in Bolzano and Landshut.

„Bei der Zusammenarbeit mit Millutensil können
wir all das ausspielen, was HANSA-FLEX auszeichnet“,
erklärt Dietmar Dorfmann, Vertriebsleiter bei

VERWECHSLUNG
AUSGESCHLOSSEN
Als positiv sieht Pilling außerdem an, dass
HANSA-FLEX Schlauchleitungen mit X-CODE zur
Verfügung stellt. Der Kunde kann mit diesem an der
Schlauchleitung angebrachten alphanumerischen
Code alle Produktmerkmale exakt ermitteln, um
die richtigen Ersatzteile zu bestellen. Verwechslungen
sind ausgeschlossen. Das weiß auch ein Kunde
wie Millutensil zu schätzen. Dorfmann: „Wir sind
mittlerweile für die Tuschierpressen von Millutensil
der Standardlieferant von Schläuchen.“ •

Mould tools used to press components are
often extremely large. Even when produced
with the utmost of precision, certain
small tolerances cannot be entirely avoided.
Die and mould spotting presses therefore press
the two halves of the mould tool together outside
the production process to find and eliminate
even the tiniest of deviations. To do this, a
specialist paints the mould tool blue and the die
and mould spotting press then goes to work. The
marks made show the specialist whether the two
halves of the mould close together properly. “If
the tool does not work properly, it is reworked
until it does”, comments Michele Pilling,
project manager at Millutensil s.r.l. in
Milan. “Only when it has passed the
press test can it go into operation.”
Yet before a die and mould spotting press is ready for
use, a great deal of logistical work is required. This
is because the machines are often multiple storeys
high yet still work with the greatest of precision.
There is no room for tolerances. BMW ordered an
MIL press, which can be used for medium and large
moulds (including thermoplastic, die cast and rubber
tools). The presses operate with a maximum
closing force of 5,000 KN and a maximum operating
pressure of 300 bar. That means that the hydraulic
components are subjected to a great deal of strain.
For this kind of project involving different countries,
Millutensil therefore needs a partner that no only offers
a complete hydraulic service but also operates
internationally. A partner like HANSA-FLEX.
SEAMLESS COOPERATION
During the design and construction phase of the die
and mould spotting press in Italy, the HANSA-FLEX
branch in Bolzano acted as a system partner. Hydraulic
hoses and the suitable screw fittings were
supplied, adapted and installed. During the installation
of the machine at BMW in Landshut, the local
HANSA-FLEX team then provided its support. The
employees supplied the necessary hose assemblies
and produced the appropriate connectors
– with great reliability as always.
Both BMW and Millutensil were impressed
by the seamless cooperation
between the branches. “Our
machines are highly complex and
delivered worldwide”, explained
Michele Pilling. “We therefore
need professional partners who not only master the
technical side of things but can also support projects
on an international level. HANSA-FLEX fulfils these
requirements and does a great job.”
PLAYING TO STRENGTHS
“When working with Millutensil, we can play out
of HANSA-FLEX’s many strengths”, explains Dietmar
Dorfmann, sales manager at HANSA-FLEX Italy in
Bolzano. “We have outstanding technical expertise
and are large and flexible enough to manage demanding
international projects. Millutensil needs a
partner that is on an equal footing to it – and we are.”
Michele Pilling confirms this appraisal: “It is great for
us to have a contact that can deal with all our needs
and concerns – whether during production or at the
site where the die and mould spotting presses are
used.”

assemblies with X-CODES. The customer can use the alphanumeric
code attached to the hose line to precisely
determine all product features and order the right
spare parts. This eliminates the risk of mix ups – and a
customer like Millutensil knows the value of this. Dorfmann:

Hydrostatischer Fahrantrieb wird häufig für
mobile Arbeitsmaschinen verwendet. Er
ermöglicht eine stufenlose Drehzahlverstellung,
ein erheblicher Vorteil in der Bedienung
großer Maschinen mit Schwerlast. Bei hydrostatischem
Antrieb treibt ein Antriebsmotor eine
Pumpe an, die einen Volumenstrom, einen Ölfluss,
generiert. Dieser Ölfluss treibt wiederum
einen Hydromotor an, der z.B. mit dem Rad oder
Achsgetriebe der Maschine verbunden ist.
Mit dem Simulator lässt sich gefahrlos erproben, wie
sich das Verändern von Rahmenbedingungen auf das
gesamte System auswirkt. Zum Einsatz kommt ein
typisches Mobilhydrauliksystem mit einem maximalen
Betriebsdruck von 350 bar und einem maximalen
Volumenstrom von 200 l/min. Der besondere
Reiz der Übungsanlage besteht aber nicht nur darin,
dass sich damit der Fahralltag realistisch und risikolos
nachbilden lässt. „Wir können mit dem Prüfstand
Situationen einfrieren“, erklärt Uwe Möbius, Trainer

Dresden einen realistisch arbeitenden Simulator mit Sekundärregelung entwickelt.

werden Fahrwiderstände wie der Beschleunigungswiderstand
berechnet.“ Auf der dritten Achse kann
die IHA eine Pumpe mit anderen Reglern montieren
und das Systemverhalten erneut analysieren. Um die
Fahrsituation realistisch abzubilden, erhielt der Prüfstand
Bedienelemente eines typischen Radladers.
Eine Besonderheit ist die Sekundärregelung, die einen
sehr dynamischen Prüfstandbetrieb ermöglicht,
bei dem Einheiten wahlweise in beide Richtungen
antreiben oder bremsen. Dank der Regelung lassen
sich dynamische Fahrzyklen unter unterschiedlichsten
Belastungen simulieren. Das rasche Regelungssystem
ermöglicht aber auch einen energiesparenden
Rekuperations-Betrieb, bei dem die beim g

There is no denying that practice makes perfect, but often the necessary practice equipment is simply not available. This particularly
applies to the hydrostatic drives that are used in mobile work machines. As a result, the International Hydraulics Academy (IHA) in
Dresden has developed a realistic simulator with an auxiliary control system.
DER PRÜFSTAND BESITZT INSGESAMT

der Simulator mit einem hohen Wirkungsgrad von
bis zu 80 %.
Die IHA schult auf diesem Simulator Mitarbeiter, die
hydrostatische Anlagen warten, instandhalten und
reparieren. Möbius: „Die Resonanz bei den ersten
rund 30 geschulten Lehrgangsteilnehmern war sehr
gut, denn üblicherweise gibt es für diesen Personenkreis
sonst keine Gelegenheit, derart tief und
detailliert die Arbeitsweise eines hydrostatischen
Antriebsstrangs zu erleben. Da kam es zu vielen
Aha-Effekten bei der Schulung.“ Weil die Teilnehmer
keine Fahrer sind, sondern sich um Wartung und
Instandhaltung kümmern, werden auch typische
Alltagssituationen simuliert. „Wir erproben zum
Beispiel, wie das System auf eine zu lange Hydraulikleitung
reagiert. Dank dieser realistischen Nachstellungen
können wir das Feeling dieser speziellen
Antriebsart hautnah vermitteln.“
Damit die Lehrgangsteilnehmer das Erlernte besser
in Know-how umsetzen können, verstecken die Trainer
bei Kursende Fehler. Ziel ist dann, die gezielte

Hydrostatic drives are often used in mobile
work machines as they allow infinite speed
adjustment, a feature that is of great benefit
when operating large machines with heavy
loads. When using a hydrostatic drive, a drive motor
drives a pump, which generates a volumetric
flow or oil flow. This in turn drives a hydraulic motor,
which is connected to the machine’s wheel or
axle drive, for example.
The simulator can be used to conduct risk-free tests
on how changes to framework conditions would
affect the system as a whole. A typical mobile hydraulic
system with a maximum operating pressure
of 350 bar and a maximum volumetric flow of 200
l/min is used. However, the particular attraction
of the practice system is not just the ability to map
everyday drive behaviour in a realistic and risk-free
manner. “The test bench enables us to freeze situations”,
explains Uwe Möbius, fluid technology trainer.
“This means that training participants can drive up or
down a seemingly endless hill.”
The test bench has three drive axles: a subassembly
drives the drive unit’s pump and acts as a virtual diesel
engine. The hydraulic motor is positioned on the
second axle, which is used to simulate loads on the
drive unit. Möbius: “We set the gradient of a hill on
a control panel, for example. Driving resistances such
as the acceleration resistance are also calculated.”
The IHA can attach a pump with other controllers to
the third axle and re-analyse the system behaviour.
To realistically map the drive situation, the test bench
uses the operating controls from a typical wheel loader.
One thing that makes the system special is the auxiliary
control system, which enables the test bench
to be operated highly dynamically, with units optionally
driven or braked in both directions. Thanks
to the control system, dynamic drive cycles can be
simulated under the broadest range of loads. The
rapid control system also enables an energy-saving
recuperation mode in which the energy generated
when braking drives another axle. Thanks to the energy
being fed back in, the simulator works with a
high efficiency level of up to 80%.
The IHA uses this simulator to provide training to employees
who maintain, service and repair hydrostatic
systems. Möbius: “The feedback from the first about
30 people to receive the training was excellent as
there is usually no opportunity for them to get such
an in-depth and detailed insight into how a hydrostatic
drivetrain works. There were lots of ‘aha’ moments
during the training.” As the participants are
not drivers but instead responsible for maintenance
and servicing, typical everyday situations are also
simulated. “For example, we test how the system responds
to a hydraulic cable that is too long. Thanks to
these realistic simulations, we can closely convey the
feel of this special drive type.” To enable the training
participants to better put what they have learned
into practice, the trainers end the course by concealing
faults. The aim is to further refine and didactically
optimise the targeted fault identification and elimination
process – for even greater ‘aha’ moments. •

DAS COMEBACK DER VINYL-SCHALLPLATTE

Sie hat einen Durchmesser von 30 Zentimetern, wird mit einer Geschwindigkeit von 33,5 Umdrehungen pro Minute abgespielt und mit
der Einführung der Compact Disc schienen ihre Tage gezählt: die Vinyl-Langspielschallplatte. Doch seit einigen Jahren steigt die Nachfrage
wieder, mittlerweile werden allein in Europa wieder jährlich rund 15 Millionen LPs produziert. Einen Großteil davon stellt die Pallas Group
im niedersächsischen Diepholz her – ein Unternehmen, das rund um die reibungslose Produktion auch auf die Leistungen der HANSA-FLEX
Tochter Willmann Steuerungstechnik GmbH setzt.
Wenn Holger Neumann über Vinyl-
Schallplatten spricht, dann ist seine
Zuneigung zur Langspielplatte geradezu
greifbar. „Vinyl-Schallplatten leben, sie sind
auf eine einzigartige Weise thermisch und
physisch spürbar“, sagt der Geschäftsführer der
traditionsreichen Schallplattenfabrik Pallas.
Neumann führt das im Jahre 1948 gegründete Familienunternehmen
in dritter Generation. Mittlerweile
stehen unter dem Dach der Pallas Group vier Unternehmen.
Hier werden jährlich unter anderem mehr
als vier Millionen Vinyl-Schallplatten und bis zu acht
Millionen Compact Discs herstellt und vertrieben.
140 Mitarbeiter bringen ihr Know-how ein. Ohne sie,
so Neumann, hätte die Pallas Group nicht ihr Renommee:
„Dass unser Name für die beste Qualität von
Vinyl-Schallplatten weltweit steht, ist Verdienst des
gesamten Teams. Jeder hat seinen Anteil daran, dass
vom Musiker bis zum Endkunden alle von unseren
Leistungen profitieren.“
MODULARE LÖSUNGEN
Als Full-Service-Anbieter bietet die Pallas Group
alle Produktions- und Vertriebsleistungen modular
aus einer Hand. „Die großen Musik-Labels der Welt
benötigen ein anderes Lösungspaket als eine Firma
aus der Region, die eine mit unserer eigenen
und GEMA-freien Musik bespielte Picture-Disc als
Werbemittel bestellt“, sagt Neumann und stellt klar:
„Losgelöst vom Auftragsvolumen erhalten alle Kunden
die gleichhohe Fertigungsqualität.“
GEFÜHLSERLEBNIS VINYL
Es ist mehr als 80 Jahre her, dass in New York der
runde Tonträger aus PVC erfunden wurde. Die Vinyl-
Schallplatte galt lange Zeit als das einzig wahre
Medium für Musikgenuss und war für viele Menschen
ein Ereignis: Beim Stöbern in Schallplattengeschäften
wurde die Zeit vergessen, das erste Hören Zuhause
war ein Erlebnis, das Ausleihen ein Vertrauensbeweis,
das Zusammenstellen der Lieblingssongs auf Mix-
Kassetten eine Liebeserklärung an Freund oder
Freundin. Doch mit der Einführung der CD im Jahre
1982 nahm die Bedeutung der Vinyl-Schallplatte
rapide ab. Mitte der 90er-Jahre hatte der neue
Silberling die alte schwarze Scheibe fast vollständig
verdrängt.
BEINAHE-ENDE UND COMEBACK
„Das Ende der Vinyl-Scheiben schien gekommen“,
sagt Holger Neumann. „In aller Welt schlossen
Werke, manche Hersteller sattelten komplett auf CD
um. Auch bei Pallas nahmen wir die CD-Produktion
auf, dennoch hielten wir am Vinyl fest – wir glaubten
weiterhin an dieses wunderbare Produkt.“ Ende der
90er-Jahre erhielt Neumann einen Anruf, den er
rückblickend als seine persönliche Wiedergeburt der
Vinyl-Schallplatte bezeichnet: Dr. Motte, Gründer
und ehemaliger Organisator der seinerzeit weltweit
angesagten Berliner Musik- und Tanzveranstaltung
„Love-Parade“, war am Telefon. Er bat Neumann
um die Pressung von Vinyl-Schallplatten mit
bestimmten Musikstücken, um als DJ durch die
direkte Manipulation der abspielenden Schallplatten
mittels seiner Hände verschiedenste Sound-
Tricks und einzigartige Effekte hervorzaubern zu
können. Neumann: „Nach dem Telefonat war ich
überzeugter denn je, dass Vinyl eine Zukunft hat. Und
tatsächlich stieg die Nachfrage allmählich wieder
an. Mittlerweile feiert die Langspielschallplatte ihr
Comeback.“
PHOENIX AUS DER ASCHE
Im April 2013 zerstörte ein durch einen technischen
Defekt verursachter Großbrand die CD- und
DVD-Produktionshalle der Pallas Group bis auf
die Grundmauern. Für Holger Neumann und die
Belegschaft stand ohne Überlegen fest, dass das
Gebäude neu aufgebaut und mit modernster
Produktionstechnik ausgestattet wird. Intern wurde
das Projekt „Phoenix aus der Asche“ genannt. In
der Ende 2014 fertiggestellten Halle erinnert ein
riesiges Banner mit Vogelsilhouette und
Notenschlüssel daran, dass das gesamte Pallas-Team
die Hallenplanung mit Vorschlägen begleitete.
GENUTZTE SYNERGIEN
Im Zuge des Neubaus waren auch die Kompetenzen
der Willmann Steuerungstechnik GmbH gefragt.
Die hundertprozentige Tochter der HANSA-FLEX AG
unterstützt die Pallas Group bereits seit 2007 mit
verschiedenen Leistungen – unter anderem mit
Reparaturen und Wartungen an der Hydraulikanlage,
kompletten Pumpenwechseln und der Montage
von Filter-Kühleinheiten. Doch nun waren die
Spezialisten aus Vechta in einem ganz anderen
Umfang gefordert.
„Ursprünglich ging es um die Aufarbeitung der zehn
bereits über 40 Jahre alten Schallplattenpressen, die
später in die neue Halle integriert werden sollten“,
sagt Klaus Stuntebeck, der stellvertretend den
Geschäftsbereich Willmann leitet und zudem dessen
Vertrieb betreut. „Doch dann wurde entschieden, die
Maschinen vorerst nicht zu renovieren, sondern zehn
neue Schallplattenpressen zu bauen. Erst nachdem die
neuen Pressen die Arbeit aufgenommen haben, sollten
die alten Pressen nach und nach auf den neuesten
Stand gebracht werden. Somit musste in der neuen
Halle eine komplett neue Druckversorgung installiert
werden.“ Willmann erhielt den Auftrag zur Erstellung
der Hauptversorgungsleitung für Hydrauliköl, die
ringförmig vom Einspeisepunkt abgeht und alle
Abzweigungen und Entnahmestellen umfasst. Verlegt
wurden mehrere hundert Meter Rohrleitungen bis
zu einem Durchmesser von vier Zoll. Hinzu kamen
ein neues Hydraulikaggregat einschließlich der
Erneuerung von Filter und Ventiltechnik sowie drei neue
Motor-Pumpeneinheiten. Zudem wurde eine neue
Druckspeicheranlage (6 x 32 Liter Blasenspeicher)
installiert. „Der mögliche Ausfall einzelner Motor-
Pumpen-Einheiten oder der Ventiltechnik konnte
die Produktion zum Erliegen bringen. Mit einer
jederzeit zuschaltbaren Standby-Einheit schlossen
wir dieses Risiko aus“, so Stuntebeck. Aktuell werden
die zehn neuen Schallplattenpressen versorgt, doch
das System von Willmann ist so konzipiert, dass es
jederzeit erweiterbar ist.
Wie in so vielen anderen Projekten wurden auch
für dieses Projekt die Synergien der HANSA-FLEX
Unternehmensgruppe genutzt. Die Rohrleitungen
und Armaturen kamen aus dem HANSA-FLEX
Fertigungszentrum für Sonderrohre und
Sonderarmaturen in Dresden-Weixdorf. Und beim
Spülen der Hydraulikanlage wurde das Spülaggregat
des HANSA-FLEX Fluidservice mit einer Förderleistung
von bis zu 1.000 Liter pro Minute eingesetzt.
GEMEINSAMES PROJEKT
Mittlerweile wird in der neuen und rund 2.800
Quadratmeter großen Halle unter besten
Arbeitsbedingungen im Dreischichtbetrieb gefertigt.
Holger Neumann: „Alle bei der Pallas Group sind sehr
zufrieden mit der hochmodernen Fertigungshalle.
Bei Willmann wussten wir aus der vorherigen
Zusammenarbeit, dass uns nicht nur erfahrene Profis
unterstützen, sondern uns auch ein mitdenkender
und flexibler Partner zur Seite steht. Pallas und
Willmann haben das Vorhaben von Anfang an als
gemeinsames Projekt betrachtet.“ Eine Beurteilung,
die Klaus Stuntebeck uneingeschränkt teilt. „Beide
Unternehmen sind erfahrene Lösungsanbieter
mit hohem Selbstanspruch an die zu erbringende
Leistungsqualität, so dass wir eine Sprache sprechen.
Abgesehen davon war es spannend, bei der
Entstehung einer Schallplatten-Fertigungsanlage
dabei gewesen zu sein.“ •

AN ALL-ROUND SUCCESS
VINYL RECORDS MAKE A COMEBACK

It has a diameter of 30 centimetres, is played at 33.5 rotations per minute and its days seemed numbered when the compact disc was
born: the vinyl record. Yet demand has once again been growing in recent years and around 15 million LPs per year are produced in
Europe alone. Many of these come from the Pallas Group in Diepholz, Lower Saxony, a company that uses the services offered by the
HANSA-FLEX subsidiary Willmann Steuerungstechnik GmbH to ensure a smooth production workflow.
When Holger Neumann talks about vinyl
records, his love of LPs is truly tangible.
“Vinyl records are alive. They give off
thermal and physical energy in a unique way,”
comments the managing director of the traditional
record factory, Pallas.
Established in 1948, Neumann is the third generation
manager of the family business. The Pallas
Group now has four companies. Every year, it produces
and sells more than four million vinyl records
and over eight million compact discs, among other
products. This is thanks to the expertise of its 140
employees, without whom Neumann says the Pallas
Group would not have its excellent reputation:
“The fact that our name stands for top quality vinyl
records worldwide is down a team effort. All of our
employees play a part in ensuring that everyone
benefits from our services, from the musicians to
the end customers.”
MODULAR SOLUTIONS
As a full-service provider, the Pallas Group offers all
production and sales services modularly from a single
source. “The world’s biggest music labels need
different packages of solutions to regional companies
who order a picture disc with our own, royaltyfree
music as advertising,” comments Neumann,
clarifying: “Regardless of the order volume, all of our
customers receive the same high level of production
quality.”
THE EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE
OF VINYL
It is more than 80 years since the circular PVC record
was invented in New York. For a long time, vinyl
records were the only way to enjoy music and were
regarded by many as an experience: you could lose
hours browsing the racks in record shops, listening to
a record at home for the first time was an experience
in itself, lending records to others was a sign of trust
and making mix-tapes of your favourite songs was a
way of declaring your love for your girlfriend or boyfriend.
Yet when CDs were launched in 1982, vinyl records
quickly became sidelined. By the mid-90s, the
new silver discs had almost completely wiped out the
old black ones.
THE NEAR END AND THE
COMEBACK
“It seemed that the end of the vinyl record was
nigh,” comments Holger Neumann. “Factories around
the world closed down and several manufacturers
switched entirely to CDs. Here at Pallas, we too
started producing CDs, but we also kept making vinyl
– and held fast to our belief in this amazing product.”
At the end of the 1990s, Neumann received a phone
call, which he heralds as the point that vinyl records
were reborn for him: Dr Motte, founder and former
organiser of the then global hit the Berlin music and
dance event ‘Love Parade’, was on the line. He asked
Neumann to create vinyl records with specific pieces
of music so that he could directly manipulate the
records with his hands as they played to create the
broadest range of sound tricks and unique effects
while he deejayed. Neumann: “After the phone call,
I was more convinced than ever that vinyl still had
a future. And I was right... demand gradually grew
again. The long-play record is now enjoying its comeback.”
PHOENIX FROM THE ASHES
In April 2013, a technical fault caused a major fire
that burned the Pallas Group’s CD and DVD production
facility down to the ground. For Holger Neumann
and the staff, there was nothing to think about - the
building would be rebuilt and equipped with the
latest production technology. Internally, the project
was known as the ‘phoenix from the ashes’. The new
production plant opened in late 2014 and contains
a huge banner with a silhouette of a phoenix and a
musical clef as a reminder that the entire Pallas team
helped to design the plant with their suggestions.
SUCCESSFUL SYNERGIES
The skills offered by Willmann Steuerungstechnik
GmbH were also used within the scope of the rebuild.
As a fully-owned subsidiary of HANSA-FLEX AG, this
has supported the Pallas Group with several services
since back in 2007, including with hydraulic system
repairs and maintenance, entire pump replacements
and the assembly of filter cooling units. This time,
however, the specialists from Vechta were needed for
a whole different reason.
“Originally, the job was to recondition ten vinyl record
presses, all of which were already over 40 years
old but were to be integrated into the new plant,”
comments Klaus Stuntebeck, Willmann deputy
manager and sales director. “Then, the decision was
taken not to renovate the machines after all but to
instead build ten new record presses. Only once the
new presses were up and running were the old ones
to be gradually updated. As a result of this decision, a
brand new compressed air supply had to be installed
in the new plant.” Willmann received the contract to
create the main supply line for hydraulic oil. This travels
from the inlet point in a circular path and includes
all branches and extraction points. Several hundred
meters of pipeline with a diameter of up to four inches
were laid. A new hydraulic unit was also added
and filters and valve technology were replaced. Three
new motorised pump units and a new pressure accumulator
(6 x 32 litre bladder accumulator) were
furthermore installed. “If individual motorised pump
units or valves failed, production could be brought
to a standstill. We eliminated this risk by connecting
a standby unit that can be activated at any time,”
comments Stuntebeck. Ten new record presses are
currently supplied but the design of the Willmann
system enables its expansion at any time. As in many
other projects, the synergies of the HANSA-FLEX
Group were also used here. The pipelines and fittings
came from the HANSA-FLEX Dresden-Weixdorf production
centre for special pipes and fittings and the
hydraulic system was flushed using a flushing power
unit with a capacity of up to 1,000 litres per minute
supplied by the HANSA-FLEX fluid service.
A JOINT PROJECT
Today, products are produced in three shifts and under
the best working conditions in the new, 2,800 qm
plant. “Everyone at the Pallas Group is delighted
with the ultra-modern production plant. From our
previous experience of working together, here at
Willmann we knew that we were not only being
supported by experienced professionals but also by
a proactive and flexible partner. Pallas and Willmann
regarded the venture as a joint project from the
outset.” This is a verdict that Klaus Stuntebeck one
hundred percent agrees with. “Both companies are
experienced solution providers committed to high
levels of quality with regard to the services supplied.
As such, we speak the same language. Regardless of
this, it was simply exciting to be there as the record
production plant was created.” •

ausmacht. Spanien hat seine Sprache in einem großen Teil der Erde verbreitet. Ohne Spanien wäre die Welt eine andere – und
darauf ist das Land zu Recht stolz.
RUND UMS LAND
Das Königreich Spanien (amtlich Reino de España)
liegt in Südwesteuropa auf der Iberische Halbinsel.
Zu Spanien gehören außerdem die Inselgruppe der
Balearen im Mittelmeer, die Kanarischen Inseln im
Atlantik, die nordafrikanischen Städte Ceuta und
Melilla sowie die in Frankreich liegende Exklave Llívia.
Spaniens Gesamtfläche beträgt 505.990 km²,
auf denen rund 46,3 Millionen Menschen leben. Das
Land teilt sich auf in 17 autonome Gemeinschaften
und die beiden autonomen afrikanischen Städte.
Unterhalb der autonomen Gemeinschaften ist der
Staatsverband in 50 Provinzen unterteilt. Hauptstadt
ist Madrid.
Staatsoberhaupt der parlamentarischen Monarchie
ist König Felipe VI, Ministerpräsident Mariano Rajoy
leitet das Kabinett seit Ende 2011. Amtssprache ist
Spanisch, anerkannte Regionalsprachen sind Katalanisch,
Baskisch und Galizisch. 95 Prozent der Bevölkerung
gehören der römisch-katholischen Kirche
an. Spanien ist unter anderem Mitglied der EU, UNO,
OECD und NATO.
GESCHICHTE SPANIENS
Die Ursprünge der spanischen Völker sind nicht eindeutig.
Wandmalereien in den Höhlen Cuevas de
Altamira gehen auf das Jahr 11000 v. Chr. zurück.
Ab 1100 v. Chr. gründeten die Phönizier erste Handelsniederlassungen
in Spanien, später eroberten
die Römer das Land. Mit dem Zerfall des Römischen
Reichs fielen die Vandalen und Westgoten ein. 711
setzten die moslemischen Mauren über die Meerenge
von Gibraltar und eroberten die gesamte Halbinsel.
Im Zuge der Reconquista eroberten die Christen
das Land in einem Jahrhunderte dauernden Feldzug
zurück.
1492 wurde Amerika durch Christoph Kolumbus
entdeckt. Nachfolgend eroberte das Königreich fast
ganz Mittel- und Südamerika. 1808 marschierte Napoleon
in Spanien ein – nach einem sechsjährigen
Unabhängigkeitskrieg zog sich Frankreich zurück.
1931 wurde die Republik ausgerufen. Fünf Jahre
später löste General Francos Putschversuch den
dreijährigen Bürgerkrieg aus, dem mehr als eine
halbe Million Menschen zum Opfer fielen. Nach
Francos Sieg blieb Spanien bis 1975 eine Diktatur.
Die aktuell gültige Verfassung des Landes trat am
29.12.1978 in Kraft.
AKTUELLE WIRTSCHAFT
Spaniens Wirtschaft stellt aktuell die fünftgrößte
in der EU und die dreizehntgrößte Volkswirtschaft
weltweit dar. In 2014 legte das Bruttoinlandsprodukt
(BIP) gemäß des spanischen Statistikamts um
1,4 Prozent zu und wuchs damit erstmals seit dem
Krisenjahr 2008. 71 Prozent des BIP werden durch
Dienstleistungen erwirtschaftet, von denen ein
Großteil auf den Tourismus entfällt. In 2014 sorgten
65 Millionen Reisen ausländischer Touristen für einen
neuen spanischen Besucherrekord. Bedeutendste
Handelspartner sind die EU-Mitgliedsländer. Wichtigste
Exportartikel sind Automobile, landwirtschaftliche
Produkte sowie chemische Erzeugnisse und
Ausrüstungsgüter. Importiert werden vor allem Energieträger,
Automobile, Elektronik und Maschinen.
Spaniens Arbeitslosenquote ist zuletzt rückläufig,
liegt aber noch immer deutlich über 20 Prozent. Vor
allem junge Menschen finden nur schwer einen Job.

Die Spanier sind ein lebhaftes und geselliges Volk.
Die Familie ist in der spanischen Gesellschaft hoch
angesehen, die Kinderliebe der Spanier ist ein stehender
Begriff. Freizeit wird möglichst außerhäuslich
und in Gesellschaft verbracht. Ausgedehnt Essen
gehen und in Bars oder Cafés mit der Familie und
Freunden zusammen sitzen, beherztes Diskutieren
und lautstarkes Feiern sind spanisches Kulturgut.
Auch im Geschäftsleben spielt die persönliche Ebene
eine große Rolle, weshalb schnell zum „Du” und dem
Vornamen übergegangen wird. Spanische Geschäftsleute
schätzen Effizienz, Zuverlässigkeit und den persönlichen
Kontakt.

It is for good reason that Europeans are often heard to say that someone is as proud as a Spaniard: Spaniards are
proud people who love every element of their lives. The Spanish language is wide-spread around the globe and
without Spain, the world would be a different place. This is something the country is quite rightly proud of this.
ABOUT THE COUNTRY
The Kingdom of Spain (officially: Reino de España) is
located on the Iberian Peninsula in south-west Europe.
The Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the
Canary Islands in the Atlantic, the North African cities
of Ceuta and Melilla and the French exclave of Llívia
are also part of Spain. Spain has an area of 505,990
km² and a population of 46.3 million people. The
country is divided into 17 autonomous communities
and the two autonomous African cities. Within the
autonomous communities, the state is also divided
into 50 provinces. The capital city is Madrid.
The head of state of the parliamentary monarchy
is King Felipe VI. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has
been in charge of the cabinet since the end of 2011.
The official language is Spanish, with Catalan, Basque

SPAIN’S HISTORY
The origins of the Spanish people are still unclear.
Cave paintings in the Caves of Altamira date back
to the year 11000 B.C. The Phoenicians established
the first commercial settlements in Spain from 1100
B.C. and the Romans later conquered the country.
With the fall of the Roman Empire, the Vandals and
Visgoths invaded. In 711, the Muslim Moors crossed
the Strait of Gibraltar and conquered the entire
peninsula. During the Reconquista, the Christians
conquered the country in a military campaign that
lasted a century.

The Kingdom of Spain subsequently conquered most
of Central and South America. In 1808, Napoleon
marched into Spain; France finally withdrew after
a six-year war of independence. The Republic was

attempted coup triggered the three-year civil war,
to which more than half a million people fell victim.
After Franco’s victory, Spain remained a dictatorship
until 1975. The country’s current Constitution entered
into force on 29/12/1978.

Spain currently has the fifth largest economy in the
EU and the thirteenth largest national economy in
the world. According to the Spanish Office of Statistics,
the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by
1.4 percent in 2014, growing for the first time since
the 2008 crisis. 71 percent of the GDP is generated
through services, many of which are connected with
tourism. In 2014, 65 million visits by foreign tourists
marked a new record high for visitor numbers to
Spain. The most important commercial partners are
the EU member states. Important export products
include cars, agricultural products, chemical products
and equipment. The main imports are energy sources,
cars, electronics and machinery. Spain’s unemployment
rate is now falling but is still at way over 20 percent.
Young people in particular struggle to find work.
THE SPANISH WAY OF LIFE
Spaniards are very sociable and full of life. Family
plays an important role in Spanish society, with the
love of children a standard concept. Most Spaniards
spend their free time away from home and in the
company of others. Going for long meals, sitting in
bars or cafés with family and friends, holding spirited
discussions and loud parties are all part of Spanish
culture. Even in business, a more personal touch is
important, with the informal address of ‘tú’ and forenames
quickly being used. Spanish business people
value efficiency, reliability and personal contact.
HANSA-FLEX IN SPAIN
It is at this precise point that HANSA-FLEX is positioning
itself in Spain: HANSA-FLEX has offered hydraulics-related
services in Madrid and the Basque Country
since 2005. More recently, it also started doing
so in Barcelona. “Our services are in the high-priced
quality sector,” comments Thomas Schiborn, Managing
Director of HANSA-FLEX Iberica S.L. “Spanish customers
greatly value our precision and our reliability.”
These properties particularly pay off with regard to
the original equipment for tool and machine builders
as great strain is placed on the hydraulic cables used
and they have to be of high quality. This is a service
that only HANSA-FLEX can provide in these areas and
within this scope. In the last few years, the economic
situation in Spain was difficult but the market is now
gradually recovering. As such, Spain should continue
to be developed as a HANSA-FLEX location. “We currently
have 15 employees in the four Spanish offices
but will expand our workforce in the future.” •

Johannes Schneider ist 25 Jahre alt und kommt gerade mit einer Gruppe Kollegen aus der Mittagspause. „Sehen Sie, das ist Johannes,
eben ganz pünktlich. Der hat eine Uhr eingebaut“, freut sich Frank Lehmann über seinen Schützling. Herr Lehmann leitet den
Warenausgang der Firma HANSA-FLEX im Weixdorfer Gewerbegebiet.
Irgendwie sticht Johannes jedoch aus der Gruppe
heraus. Aber nicht aufgrund seiner Behinderung,
schuld ist die blaue Latzhose. Die anderen
tragen schließlich firmenrote Einheitskleidung.
Das hat aber keinen ausgrenzenden Grund,
vielmehr einen ganz pragmatischen: Johannes
Schneider arbeitet bei HANSA-FLEX auf einem
ausgelagerten Arbeitsplatz der Kleinwachauer
Werkstätten. Ein Werkvertrag zwischen dem
Unternehmen und der Werkstatt für behinderte
Menschen regelt dabei, dass Johannes weiterhin
seinen Lohn von der Werkstatt erhält, diese wiederum
die geleisteten Arbeitsstunden direkt mit
HANSA-FLEX abrechnet. Natürlich ist Johannes
mit diesem Modell noch nicht auf dem allgemeinen
Arbeitsmarkt angekommen, das Gefühl „in
einer Firma dazuzugehören und gebraucht zu
werden“ wiegt das aber auf. „Ich verstehe mich
super mit meinen Kollegen, wir sind ein richtiges
Team“, freut sich der junge Langebrücker.
Neun Mitarbeiter hat Frank Lehmann in der
Abteilung Warenausgang unter sich, davon zwei
Beschäftigte aus den Kleinwachauer Werkstätten.
Mit charmantem Witz koordiniert der Oberlausitzer
seine Schützlinge aus Kleinwachau und findet dabei
für jeden eine passgenaue Aufgabe. „Natürlich
fordert mich die Arbeit mit behinderten Menschen
auch selbst“, sagt er und präzisiert das so: „Ich
muss einige Dinge anders erklären, es einfach und
verständlich machen.“ Johannes aber braucht es gar
nicht so einfach, auf seinem Fertigungsprogramm
stehen heute unsagbar schwere Worte: Pressnippel,
Überwurfmutter und Kupferlotring. Mit viel
Fingerspitzengefühl macht er sich an die schweren
Fachbegriffe. Von ihm kommentiert klingt der
Arbeitsschritt dann doch ganz einfach: „Kupferlotring
kommt auf Pressnippel, mit Röhrchen reindrücken,
klick-klack, sitzt und ab in die Kiste.“ Diese Routine
fasziniert selbst Frank Lehmann: „Johannes ist sehr
wachsam und irgendwie immer in Bewegung. Er
sieht die Arbeit, ihn muss man nicht erst darauf
hinweisen.“
Es sind lobende Worte für eine Zusammenarbeit, die
schon vor vielen Jahren begann. Damals wurden die
Produkte direkt in den Kleinwachauer Werkstätten
montiert. „Wir optimierten diesen Prozess, indem wir
vor allem die Transportwege einsparten um somit
auch schneller auf Produktionsspitzen reagieren zu
können“, fasst Frank Lehmann den Grundstein für
die ausgelagerten Arbeitsplätze zusammen. Also
holte sich Herr Lehmann die Werkstattbeschäftigten
direkt in die Weixdorfer Produktionshallen. Anfangs

waren das noch Praktikumsplätze, die dann nach und
nach dank erfolgreichem Inklusionsmanagement in
ausgelagerte Arbeitsplätze umgewandelt wurden.
Auf die Betreuung aus Kleinwachau muss Johannes
aber nicht verzichten. Einmal in der Woche kommen
Mitarbeiter vom Sozialen Dienst der Werkstatt an den
ausgelagerten Arbeitsplatz. „Sie fragen mich nach
Problemen, aber die gibt es kaum“, sagt Johannes
und dreht sich wieder um zu den Pressnippeln und
Kupferlotringen. Er hat hier eine Aufgabe, die ihn
spürbar zur Firma dazugehören lässt. •

Johannes stands out in the group somehow. It
is not the fact that he is disabled, but that he
is wearing blue overalls, while all of the others
are in matching ‘company red’ uniforms. But
this difference is not to segregate Johannes, but
rather for purely pragmatic reasons: Johannes
Schneider works for HANSA-FLEX at a remote
workplace provided by the Kleinwachau workshops.
In line with a service contract between the
company and the workshop for disabled people,
Johannes receives a salary from the workshop,
which in turn invoices HANSA-FLEX directly for
the number of hours that he has worked. Although
Johannes has not yet gained entry to
the general labour market with this model, this
is offset by the sense of “belonging to a company
and being needed”. “I get on great with my colleagues;
we are a proper team,” the young man
from Langebrück states happily.
Frank Lehmann from Upper Lausitz manages a team
of nine employees in the goods issue department,
two of whom are from the Kleinwachau workshops.
He coordinates his protégés with charming humour
and finds the right jobs for each of them. “Working
with disabled people is naturally also challenging for
me,” he comments, substantiating this with: “I have
to explain certain things differently, and make them
simple and understandable.” But Johannes does not
need things to be quite so simple. His production list
currently includes several unspeakably tricky terms:
crimp nipple, union nut and copper solder ring. He
deals with these terms with a great deal of dexterity
and makes his work sounds simple after all when he
describes it: “You put the copper solder ring onto the
crimp nipple, press it in with the little tube until it
clicks firmly into place and then into the box it goes.”
This routine fascinates even Frank Lehmann: “Johannes
is very attentive and always seems to be on
the go somehow. He sees the work that needs doing;
you do not have to point it out to him.”
These are words of praise
about a working relationship
that began many years
ago. Back then, the products
were assembled in the
Kleinwachau workshops
themselves. “We optimised
this process, particularly
by reducing the transport
distances, which in turn
made it possible to respond
to production peaks more
quickly,” states Frank Lehmann in summary of how
the remote workplaces came about. As such Mr
Lehmann brought the workshop employees to the
Weixdorf production plant. What initially began as
apprentice positions was gradually transformed into
remote workplaces thanks to the successful inclusion
management.
But Johannes can still avail of support from
Kleinwachau. Social workers from the workshop
visit the remote workplace once a week. “They ask
if I have any problems, but I rarely do,” comments
Johannes, turning back to the crimp nipples and copper
solder rings. He has a job here that notably makes
him feel part of the company.•

REGELMÄSSIGER LUFTAUSTAUSCH HÄLT GESUND UND WACH

Wenn sich mehrere Mitarbeiter ein Büro teilen, sorgt das Thema Lüften häufig für dicke Luft. Insbesondere im Winter können geöffnete
Fenster schnell die Stimmung verderben. Doch beim Lüften geht es um mehr als kalt oder warm.
Die Atmung von Menschen in Räumen erhöht
den Anteil von Kohlendioxid (CO₂) in
der Luft – und CO₂ ist ein Müdemacher. In
Büros verbrauchen nicht nur Mitarbeiter, sondern
auch Geräte wie Drucker und Kopierer wertvollen
Sauerstoff. Zudem verändert durch Heizungsluft,
Teppichböden, Aktenordner und vieles mehr
entstehender Staub die Büroluft. All dies führt
zu verbrauchter und stickiger Luft, die neben
der Abnahme von Konzentrationsfähigkeit und
Leistungsvermögen auch zu gesundheitlichen
Beeinträchtigungen führen kann. Daher sollte
durch regelmäßiges Lüften ein Luftaustausch
herbeigeführt werden.
DIE VERSCHIEDENEN ARTEN
DES LÜFTENS
Bei geschlossenen Räumen wird zwischen der freien
und der technischen Lüftung unterschieden. Die
freie Lüftung erfolgt über geöffnete Fenster und
offenstehende Außentüren, die technische Lüftung
durch Lüftungs- und Klimaanlagen. Frei gelüftet
wird mittels Spaltlüftung (gekipptes Fenster), Stoßlüftung
(kurzzeitig ganz geöffnetes Fenster) und
Querlüftung, bei der gegenüberliegende Fenster beziehungsweise
Türen ganz geöffnet werden.
SCHLÜSSELTHEMA
LUFTFEUCHTIGKEIT
Die Außentemperatur beeinflusst das Lüftungsergebnis.
Kalte Außenluft enthält nur wenig Wasserdampf.
Die hereingelassene Außenluft wird durch
den Heizkörper erwärmt und beginnt, sich trocken
anzufühlen. Das liegt keineswegs daran, dass Wasser
verloren geht, denn in der erwärmten Luft ist noch
immer die gleiche Menge Wasser enthalten wie in
der kalten Luft. Doch da warme Luft mehr Wasser
in sich aufnehmen kann, verdampft die Feuchtigkeit
schneller. Selbst wenn draußen bei 1 Grad Celsius Nebel
herrscht, wirkt die überwässerte Luft (die mehr
Wasserdampf enthält als sie aufnehmen kann) nach
der Erwärmung durch die Heizung auf 20 Grad Celsius
sehr trocken.
An warmen Tagen enthält die Außenluft mehr Wasserdampf.
Doch feuchte und stehende Luft – die zu
Schimmel und Pilzwachstum führen kann – kommt
nicht nur von außen, sondern auch von den Menschen
im Raum: Verbrauchte Atemluft wird beim
Einatmen durch Nase und Lunge angefeuchtet, beim
Ausatmen wird diese zusätzliche Feuchtigkeit abgegeben.
Auch daher ist regelmäßiges Lüften sehr
wichtig.
STOSSEN STATT KIPPEN UND
DURCHZUG
Das Maß der richtigen Lüftung ist die Luftwechselrate.
Sie gibt an, wie häufig pro Stunde die Luft in
einem Raum ausgetauscht wird. Die Bundesanstalt
für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin empfiehlt die
Luftwechselrate 1, was heißt, dass im Abstand von
einer Stunde die gesamte Raumluft gegen Frischluft
gewechselt wird. Dieser Austausch sollte durch
Stoßlüften stattfinden, denn bei der Kipplüftung ist
der Luftaustausch unzureichend und die Fensterlaibungen
kühlen aus. Quergelüftet werden sollte nur
in menschenleeren
Büroräumen, da
während kälterer
Außentemperaturen
die Zugluft
beziehungsweise
der Luftstrom unter
anderem zu Verkühlung
im Nacken
führen kann – und nicht außer Acht zu lassen sind
die umherfliegenden Unterlagen.
DIE ARBEITSSTÄTTENRICHTLINIE
REGELT‘S
In Deutschland geben die Technischen Regeln für
Arbeitsstätten (ASR) den Stand der Technik, Arbeitsmedizin
und Arbeitshygiene sowie sonstige gesicherte
arbeitswissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse für das
Einrichten und Betreiben von Arbeitsstätten wieder.
Die ASR werden vom Ausschuss für Arbeitsstätten ermittelt
und angepasst, und vom Bundesministerium
für Arbeit und Soziales bekannt gegeben.
Die ASR A3.6 beschreibt die Anforderungen an die
Lüftung für Arbeitsplätzen in geschlossenen Arbeitsräumen,
auch die Temperaturen sind geregelt. So gilt
bei körperlich leichten Arbeiten – darunter fallen die
meisten Bürojobs – eine Temperatur zwischen 19 und
20 Grad Celsius als angemessen, bei mittelschweren
Arbeiten sollte es zwischen 17 und 19 Grad warm
sein, und bei schweren Arbeiten, die nur im Stehen
oder Gehen verrichtet werden können, 12 Grad.
Der Arbeitgeber hat die Pflicht, erforderliche Maßnahmen
zum Arbeitsschutz zu treffen. Sofern es also
wiederholt Uneinigkeit über das Lüften gibt, muss
der Arbeitgeber einschreiten und festlegen, wann
und wie häufig gelüftet wird. •

HOW TO VENTILATE THE OFFICE
REGULAR AIR EXCHANGE PROMOTES GOOD HEALTH AND KEEPS YOU ALERT
When multiple people share an office, the topic of ventilation can often cause a bad atmosphere. In winter in particular, open windows
can quickly cause complaints. But ventilation is about more than just whether people are hot or cold.
When the people in a room breathe, the
amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the air
increases, making them feel tired. In offices,
it is not just the employees but also equipment
such as printers and photocopiers that consume
valuable oxygen. Furthermore, dust caused
by the air from the heating system, the carpet,
document files and many other things also alters
the office air. Together, these factors lead to old,
stuffy air, which not only impairs people’s concentration
and performance but can also be damaging
to their health. Air exchange should therefore
be enabled through regular ventilation.
THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF
VENTILATION
In enclosed spaces, a differentiation is made between
free and technical ventilation. Free ventilation
occurs by opening windows and external doors; technical
ventilation uses ventilation and air conditioning
systems. Free ventilation can take place in the form
of gap ventilation (windows tilted open), shock ventilation
(windows opened fully for a brief period) or
cross-ventilation (doors and/or windows positioned
opposite one another opened fully).
THE IMPORTANCE OF HUMIDITY
The outside temperature influences the result of ventilation.
Cold outside air only contains a low amount
of water vapour. The outside air that is let in during
ventilation is heated by the radiators and starts
to feel dry. However, this is not due to water being
lost; the heated air still contains the same amount of
water as the cold air did. However, as warm air can
absorb more water, the moisture evaporates more
quickly. Even if it is 1 degree Celsius and foggy out,
the overhydrated air (which contains more water vapour
than it can absorb) seems very dry once it has
been heated to 20 degrees.
On warm days, the outside air contains more water
vapour. However, damp, stale air, which can cause
mould and fungal growth, does not only come from
outside but also from the people in the room: as they
breathe in, the respiratory air is dampened by their
nose and lungs; on breathing out, this additional
moisture is emitted. This is a further reason why
regular ventilation is very important.
SHOCK RATHER THAN GAP
VENTILATION AND THE PROBLEM
OF DRAUGHTS
Correct ventilation depends on the air exchange rate.
This indicates how many times an hour the air in a
room should be exchanged. The Federal Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) recommends
an air exchange rate of 1, which means that all the
ambient air should be exchanged for fresh air every

hour. This exchange should take place using shock
ventilation as the air exchange with gap ventilation is
inadequate and the window jambs cool down. Crossventilation
should only be used in rooms without
anyone in them as, when cold outside, the draught
or air flow can cause problems such as cold necks, not
to mention the risk of documents flying around!
THE WORKPLACE RULES ARE KEY
In Germany, the Technical Rules for Workplaces (ASR)
cover the state of the art, occupational medicine and
occupational hygiene as well as other established ergonomic
findings with regard to setting up and operating
workplaces. The ASR are determined and adapted by
the Workplace Committee and published by the Federal
Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.ASR A3.6 describes
the requirements regarding the ventilation of workplaces
in enclosed spaces, including the temperatures.
For example, a temperature of 19 to 20 degrees Celsius
is regarded as suitable for non-physically demanding
work (which includes most office jobs), a temperature
of 17 to 19 degrees for medium-duty work and 12 degrees
for physically demanding work that can only be
carried out while standing or walking about.
Employers are obliged to meet the necessary occupational
health and safety measures. If regular
arguments about ventilation ensue, employers must
therefore take action and determine when and how
often offices are ventilated. •
Eigentlich ist der Begriff „3D-Drucker” unpassend,
denn 3D-Printer sind keine Drucker, die
Farben auf Papier bringen. Vielmehr sind es
Geräte in unterschiedlichen Größen und Formen,
die dreidimensionale Objekte erzeugen. Dazu
muss einem 3D-Drucker eine passende CAD-Datei
(CAD = Computer-Aided Design) zugespielt werden,
die Informationen über das zu druckende
Objekt liefert. Diese wurde zuvor entweder manuell
am Rechner erstellt oder mittels Computersoftware,
etwa über eine Webcam, von einem
bereits vorhandenen Gegenstand erzeugt.
Die Konstruktionsdaten werden nun in dreidimen-sionale
Objekte und Formen umgesetzt. Dies geschieht
durch das Auftragen von 80 bis 400 Mikrometer dünnen
Schichten. Diese Schichten bestehen aus einem
Werkstoff, zum Beispiel Metall, Keramik, Kunstharz
oder Kunststoff. Die Werkstoffe werden erhitzt und
dann Schicht für Schicht auf einer Baufläche aufgetragen.
Ein hochauflösender Druckkopf trägt Binder
auf die Schichten auf und verklebt sie. Die Maschine
wiederholt diese beiden Auftragsschritte solange, bis
die Bauhöhe des gewünschten Objektes erreicht ist.
NEUE LÖSUNGSWEGE FÜR
DIE INDUSTRIE
Als der US-amerikanische Ingenieur Charles Hull
im Jahre 1984 den weltweit ersten 3D-Drucker
entwickelte, hat er sich nach eigener Aussage nicht
vorstellen können, dass sich drei Jahrzehnte später
mit einem 3D-Printer nahezu jeder denkbare
Gegenstand damit produzieren ließe. Heute nutzt
die Industrie den 3D-Druck im zunehmenden Umfang:

der Entwicklung und Konstruktion. Ein weiterer
Vorteil ist die Kostenersparnis, denn beim 3D-Druck
wird kein Materialüberschuss produziert. Vom
Prototypenbau über die Ersatzteilplanung bis hin
zur Einzelteilfertigung entsteht ohne aufwendige
Werkzeugkonstruktionen ein fertiges Produkt, das
sofort genutzt oder als Teil einer größeren Struktur
weiterverarbeitet werden kann.
Wie lange ein 3D-Print dauert, hängt neben der
Größe und Komplexität der Form auch von der Leistungsfähigkeit
des Druckers ab. Von wenigen Minuten
bis hin zu mehreren Tagen ist alles möglich. g

UND FABLABS
Das Geschäft mit 3D-Druckern nimmt immer mehr
Fahrt auf. Betrug der weltweite Umsatz mit 3D-Printern
im Jahr 2013 noch 700 Millionen US-Dollar, stieg
er 2014 auf 1,3 Milliarden und soll nach Einschätzung
von Experten in 2018 auf 5,4 Milliarden wachsen.
Doch während für die Industrie die Anschaffung
eines 3D-Druckers immer interessanter wird, rechnet
es sich für viele Privathaushalte (noch) nicht.
Für solche Kleinstaufträge stehen professionelle
3D-Auftragsdrucker bereit, die Aufträge ganz unkompliziert
über das Internet annehmen. Oder
man macht sich auf den Weg in eine sogenannte
FabLab (fabrication laboratory). Hierbei handelt es
sich um ein global wachsendes Netzwerk offener
und kostenlos nutzbaren Werkstätten, die Zugang
zu digitalen Fabrikationsmaschinen bieten. Dort
gibt man nichts in Auftrag, sondern bedient die 3D-
Drucker selber. Adressen solcher Labore finden sich
im Internet.
DIE FRAGE MIT DEN
SCHUTZRECHTEN
Wie immer, wenn es um die Herstellung von Kopien
geht, geht es auch im 3D-Druck um Schutzrechte. Die
Technologie des 3D-Prints macht es einfach, Gegenstände
zu kopieren und je nach Gegenstand müssen
Nutzungsrechte, Patent- und Gebrauchsmusterrechte
sowie Marken- und Designrechte beachtet werden.
Aus diesem Grunde lassen sich Auftragsdrucker
von ihren Kunden immer die Einhaltung der Rechtsordnung
schriftlich bestätigen. •
MIT EINEM 3D-PRINTER LÄSST
SICH NAHEZU JEDER DENKBARE
GEGENSTAND PRODUZIEREN
The term ‘3D printer’ is actually rather misguiding
as 3D printers are not printers that
apply ink to paper. Instead, they are devices
of different shapes and sizes that can create
3D objects. To this end, a suitable computeraided
design (CAD) file with information about
the object to be printed has to be uploaded to a
3D printer. This file would have been manually
created on a computer or generated using computer
software, such as a webcam, on the basis
of an existing object.
The design data is now converted into three-dimensional
objects and shapes. This occurs through
the application of layers with a thickness of just 80
to 400 micrometres (abb. µm, where 1 µm = 0.001
mm) and made from a material such as metal, ceramic,
synthetic resin or plastic. The materials are
heated and then applied to a construction surface
layer by layer. A high-resolution print head applies
an adhesive binder to the layers to stick them
together. The machine repeats these application
steps as many times as is necessary to reach the
height of the desired object.
NEW INDUSTRY SOLUTIONS
Even the American engineer Charles Hull who developed
the world’s first 3D printer in 1984 has admitted
that, on doing so, he never imagined that three
decades later, 3D printers would be able to produce
almost any conceivable object. Today, 3D printing is
being increasingly used by industry: whether as a
low-cost way of manufacturing medical prostheses
or to produce architectural models. In the mechanical
engineering sector, the digital manufacture of
parts purely on the basis of CAD data is enabling
new solutions in the fields of design and development.
Cost savings are a further benefit as there is
no material wastage with 3D printing. From prototype
building through spare parts planning to individual
part production, a finished product can be
created without any laborious tool designs, ready
for instant use or as a part that can be further processed
to create a larger structure.
The time it takes to create a 3D print depends on
not only the size and complexity of the object but
also the performance of the printer. Everything is
possible, from just a few minutes to several days.
CONTRACT PRINT SHOPS
AND FABLABS
Business is booming in the world of 3D printers. While
the global revenue with 3D printers was 700 million
US dollars in 2013, this rose to 1.3 billion in 2014, with
experts forecasting revenues of 5.4 billion in 2018. Yet
while buying a 3D printer is of increasing interest to
industrial companies, this is not (yet) worthwhile
for many private individuals. These can instead use
the services of professional 3D contract printers,
who simply accept orders over the internet, or alternatively
head to a FabLab (fabrication laboratory).
FabLabs are a growing global network of accessible
and free-to-use workshops that offer access to digital
production machines. Instead of commissioning
someone to create the 3D print for you, you operate
the 3D printer yourself. The addresses of such laboratories
can be found online.
THE QUESTION OF
PROPERTY RIGHTS
As always when looking at making copies, property
rights also come into play with regard to 3D printing.
The 3D printing technology makes it easy to
copy items and, depending on the item, usage, patent,
utility patent, trademark and design rights all
have to be considered. Contract printers therefore
always ask their customers to confirm in writing
that they are complying with legal regulations. •

Die Straße ist vollgesperrt. Scheinwerfer trotzen der Nacht und tauchen die Baustelle in helles Licht. Die 34 Meter lange und mehr als 100
Tonnen schwere Stahlkonstruktion hängt an einem mobilen 800-Tonnen-Teleskopkran. Ohne Ruck geht es gleitend in die Höhe. Während
aus einiger Entfernung die Schaulustigen gebannt zusehen, sitzt auf der Baustelle jeder Handgriff. Minuten später ist die Stahlkonstruktion
punktgenau eingehoben und sicher verankert. Der Lückenschluss der neuen Brücke ist vollzogen. Nach nur einer Stunde Sperrung wird die
Straße gegen 1 Uhr wieder freigegeben.
Was dank hydraulischer Technik schnell
ging und spielerisch einfach wirkte, war
der Schlussakkord einer langen Vorplanung.
Die Peutebahnbrücke ist für den Hamburger Hafen von
logistischer Bedeutung. Die über der Veddeler Straße
verlaufende Eisenbahnüberführung verbindet das
Schienennetz der Deutschen Bahn mit der Peute, einer
vor allem industriell genutzten Binneninsel der Elbe.
Die mehr als 100 Jahre alte Peutebahnbrücke wurde
aufgrund ihres Veschleißes im Jahre 2013 demontiert
und durch einen 2014 eröffneten Neubau ersetzt.
Eine Brücke besteht grundsätzlich aus Überbau und
Unterbau. Der Überbau, auch Tragwerk genannt, ist
die eigentliche Fahrbahnplatte. Auf diese Fahrbahnplatte
wird der Fahrbahnbelag verlegt, im Fall der
Peutebahnbrücke die Schiene. Zum Überbau gehören
auch die Auflager – jene „Füße”, mit denen der Überbau
auf den Unterbau gesetzt wird. Der Unterbau
umfasst alle Bauteile, die bei einer Brücke unterhalb
der Fahrbahn liegen. Er stützt den Überbau und trägt
dessen Lasten über Lager, Widerlager, Pfeiler und
Fundamente auf den Baugrund ab.
VIER NÄCHTE FÜR 800 KILOMETER
Der Stahlüberbau der neuen Peutebahnbrücke wurde
in Zwickau gefertigt und per Schwerlasttransport
in die Hansestadt geliefert. Den Transport übernahm
die Hamburger Spedition Thömen. Das in vierter
Familiengeneration geführte Unternehmen ist auf
Schwertransporte und Kranlogistik spezialisiert und
seit vielen Jahren HANSA-FLEX Kunde. Die Vorbereitung
des 800 Kilometer weiten Transportes dauerte
acht Wochen. Behördliche Genehmigungen, die Erstellung
des Streckenprotokolls, Rücksprachen mit
Straßenmeistereien und vieles mehr banden Zeit.
Aufgrund des Gewichtes und der Abmessung des
Bauteils konnte der Transport nur zwischen 22 und
6 Uhr durchgeführt werden. Vier Nächte lang war das
50 Meter lange und 182 Tonnen schwere Fahrzeug
mit maximal 60 Stundenkilometern unterwegs. Begleitfahrzeuge
sicherten den Transport ab.
Am Bestimmungsort wartete bereits der Teleskop-
Fahrzeugkran, um in der folgenden Nacht das
Bauteil einzuheben. Auch hierfür war Thömen
zuständig. Der mobile Neunachser war mit 200
Tonnen Gegengewicht bestückt worden, welche
die Gefahr des Neigens und Kippens des frei auf der
Veddeler Straße stehenden Krans minimierte. Diese
Gefahr hätte bestanden, sobald die Gewichtskraft
des Stahlüberbaus in vertikaler Richtung auf einen
Punkt außerhalb der Aufstandsfläche des Krans
einwirkt. Überhaupt war rund um das Einheben des
Brückenteils für Risiken kein Raum. Daher war auch
ein Einsatzfahrzeug des HANSA-FLEX Hydraulik-
Sofortservice vor Ort, um im Fall der Fälle mit den
benötigten Ersatzteilen die Zeit des Kranstillstands
so kurz wie möglich zu halten.
ÜBERALL VOR ORT
„Ohne hydraulische Komponenten und Systeme
funktioniert ein Teleskopkran nicht“, so Achim Jäger,
Außendienstmitarbeiter bei HANSA-FLEX. Er betreut
das Unternehmen Thömen. „Die Bedienung der hydraulischen
Antriebe der einzelnen Kranbewegungen
erfolgt über elektronisch betätigte Proportionalventile.
Diese Ventile kommen dort zur Anwendung, wo
die Ausgangsgröße des Volumenstroms im gleichen
Verhältnis zur Eingangsgröße verändert wird. Die
hydraulische Teleskopierung von Lasten, also das
gleitende Ein- und Ausfahren des Teleskops mit Last,
Baustelle Autobahndreieck Barnim (neuer Name; vormals Schwanebeck)

ist die Besonderheit von Teleskopkranen, denn nur
so ist Millimeterarbeit wie bei der Peutebahnbrücke
überhaupt erst möglich.“
Lars Thömen, Geschäftsführer der Thömen Spedition
GmbH & Co. KG, überlässt rund um die Hydraulik
der Fahrzeuge und Krane seines Unternehmens
nichts dem Zufall. „Wir benötigen in dem Bereich
regelmäßig Unterstützung und greifen stets auf
HANSA-FLEX zurück”, sagt er. „Das beginnt mit der
reinen Schlauchlieferung und geht über die spezielle
Schlauchleitungsfertigung und Rohrbiegung vor
Ort in unserer Werkstatt bis hin zu den Einsätzen des
Hydraulik-Sofortservice überall in Deutschland. Wo
auch immer wir gerade mit unseren Schwertransporten
und Kranen im Einsatz sind: Innerhalb einer
Stunde ist ein Fahrzeug des Hydraulik-Sofortservice
da und sorgt als mobiles Ersatzteillager dafür, dass
wir bei der Hydraulik im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes
nicht auf dem Schlauch stehen.”
ROUTINE – ABER KEINE
GEWOHNHEIT
Arbeiten wie die an der neuen Peutebahnbrücke
hat Thömen bereits mehrfach ausgeführt. Einige
transportierte und eingehobene Stahlüberbauten
waren noch gewaltiger, denn schließlich führt
das Traditionsunternehmen Schwertransporte bis
200 Tonnen durch und verfügt über die mobilen
Teleskopkrane, um diese auch einzuheben. Lars
Thömen: „Aufgrund unserer Erfahrung haben wir
eine bestimmte Routine, aber von Gewohnheit
sprechen wir nicht – denn Gewohnheit kann zur
Nachlässigkeit führen. Für uns ist es gut zu wissen,
dass wir mit HANSA-FLEX nicht nur hier oben in
Hamburg einen leistungsstarken Partner haben,
sondern überall in Deutschland. Die Einsatzwagen
des Hydraulik-Sofortservice und das dichte Netz
an Niederlassungen garantieren, dass HANSA-FLEX
immer auf kurzem Wege bei uns ist.” •

The road is completely closed. Floodlights cut through the dark night sky and brightly illuminate the construction site. The
34-metre-long steel structure weighing more than 100 tonnes hangs from a mobile, 800 tonne telescopic crane and rises
smoothly into the air. While a few curious onlookers stand a short distance away, gazing at the spectacle in awe, everything
on the construction site is conducted with painstaking precision. A few minutes later and the steel structure has been lifted to
precisely the right height and securely anchored in place. The gap in the new bridge has been sealed. After a mere one hour
closure, the road is reopened at around 1 a.m.
What went quickly and looked extremely
easy thanks to hydraulic technology
was actually the culmination of lengthy
planning.
The Peutebahn railway bridge is of great logistical
importance to the Port of Hamburg. The bridge runs
over Veddeler Straße and connects the Deutsche
Bahn rail network with the Peute, an inland island
on the River Elbe that is primarily used for industrial
purposes. The former, rather deteriorated Peutebahn
bridge was built more than 100 years ago and demolished
in 2013, ready to be replaced with a new
bridge the following year.
Bridges are essentially made of a superstructure and
a substructure. The superstructure or ‘supporting
structure’ is the actual carriageway slab on which
the carriageway surface is laid. In the case of the
Peutebahn bridge, this meant the railway tracks. The
superstructure also includes the supports – the ‘feet’
used to place the superstructure on the substructure.
The substructure means all parts of the bridge that
are below the carriageway. This supports the superstructure
and transfers its loads into the subsurface
via bearings, abutments, piers and foundations.
800 KILOMETRES IN FOUR NIGHTS
The steel superstructure for the new Peutebahn
bridge was produced in Zwickau and delivered to the
Hanseatic city of Hamburg by heavy-duty transport
vehicles operated by the Hamburg-based company
Spedition Thömen. The fourth-generation family
business specialises in heavy-duty transportation
and crane logistics and has been a HANSA-FLEX customer
for many years. It took eight weeks to prepare
for the 800 kilometre journey. Official permits, the
creation of a route map, discussions with highways
maintenance departments and many other matters
all took time. The bridge section’s weight and size
meant that it could only be transported between 10
p.m. and 6 a.m. The 50 metre long, 182 tonne vehicle
was on the road for four nights at a maximum speed
of 60 kilometres per hour. Support vehicles ensured
good safety throughout the journey.
On arrival at Veddeler Straße, the free-standing telescopic
vehicle crane was already waiting to hoist
the component into place the following night. Thömen
was also responsible for this part of the work.
The mobile nine-axle crane was equipped with 200
tonnes of counterweight to minimise the risk of it
tilting or tipping over. This risk would have existed
as soon as the weight of the steel superstructure was
vertically applied to a point outside the crane’s surface
contact area.
There was no room for any risks when hoisting the
bridge section. As such, a HANSA-FLEX mobile rapid
hydraulic service vehicle was also on site to keep any
crane downtime to a minimum if the worst case scenario
occurred and spare parts were required.
ON SITE EVERYWHERE
“A telescopic crane won’t work without hydraulic
components and systems”, comments Achim Jäger,
field sales technician at HANSA-FLEX and account
manager for Thömen. “The hydraulic drives for the
individual crane movements are operated using electronically
activated proportional valves. These valves
are used where the volume flow output is changed at
the same ratio as the volume flow input. The hydraulic
telescoping of loads, i.e. the gliding retraction and
extension of the telescope with a load, is what makes
telescopic cranes special as this is the only thing that
enables them to work with millimetre precision, as
was required for the Peutebahn bridge.”
Lars Thömen, Managing Director of Thömen Spedition
GmbH & Co. KG, leaves nothing to chance when
it comes to the hydraulics for his company’s vehicles
and cranes. “We regularly need support in this area
and always get this from HANSA-FLEX”, he comments.
“This can simply mean hose delivery but also
special hose lines manufacturing, pipe bending on
site in our workshop or even activities by the mobile
rapid hydraulic service all over Germany. Wherever
we are with our heavy-duty transport vehicles and
cranes, a mobile rapid hydraulic service vehicle is
always with us within an hour and acts as a mobile
spare parts warehouse to ensure there’s quite literally
always a solution in the pipeline when we’re facing
hydraulics issues.”
ROUTINE – BUT NOT HABIT
Thömen has carried out multiple jobs like the one for
the new Peutebahn bridge. Some of the steel superstructures
that it has transported and hoisted have
even been bigger and heavier than this one. After
all, the tradition-steeped company transports objects
weighing up to 200 tonnes and has the mobile
telescopic cranes needed to hoist these as well. Lars
Thömen: “Our experience has enabled us to develop
a routine, but we don’t talk about habits – habits can
lead to carelessness. For us, it is good to know that
by working with HANSA-FLEX, we not only have a
competent partner up here in Hamburg but also all
over Germany. The mobile rapid hydraulic service vehicles
and the large network of branches ensure that
HANSA-FLEX is never far away.” •

JOHN RABE RETTETE HUNDERTAUSENDEN ZIVILISTEN DAS LEBEN

In der Heimat lange Zeit unbekannt, wird John Rabe in China seit bald acht Jahrzehnten als „Der gute Deutsche von Nanking” verehrt. Denn
als die japanische Armee Ende 1937 die damals 1,3 Millionen Einwohner zählende Stadt einnahm, rettete Rabe bis zu 250.000 Menschen
vor dem Tod. Wer war der Mann, der sich in die chinesischen Geschichtsbücher geschrieben hat?

Der Kaufmann John Heinrich Detlef Rabe
wurde 1882 in Hamburg geboren. Von 1903
bis 1906 war er in Afrika tätig, seit 1908
in China. 1931 wurde er Geschäftsführer der
Siemens-Niederlassung in der damaligen chinesischen
Hauptstadt Nanking. Ende 1937 stand
schließlich sein Abschied bevor, NSDAP-Mitglied
Rabe sollte in die Siemens-Zentrale nach Berlin
wechseln. Doch die Nacht vor der geplanten Abreise
änderte alles.
HAKENKREUZFAHNE ALS
SCHUTZSCHILD
Im Sommer 1937 brach der japanisch-chinesische
Krieg aus. Nach der äußerst verlustreichen Eroberung
Shanghais marschierte die kaiserliche japanische
Armee nun auf die damalige Hauptstadt Chinas
– Nanking – zu. Die Regierung und nahezu alle
Ausländer hatten die Stadt bereits verlassen, lediglich
wenige Amerikaner, Briten und Deutsche waren noch
dort, darunter John Rabe. Mehrere Tage lang wurde
Nanking belagert. Während Rabes Abschiedsfeier
auf dem Siemens-Betriebsgelände am Abend des
12. Dezember begannen japanische Tiefflieger mit
der Bombardierung der Stadt. Rabe ließ daraufhin
die Werkstore öffnen, um der Bevölkerung auf dem
Firmengelände Schutz zu bieten. Als Rabe auf dem
Innenhof eine Hakenkreuzfahne spannen ließ,
drehten die Flugzeuge der mit Nazi-Deutschland
verbündeten Japaner ab. Doch am folgenden Tag
nahm Japan Nanking ein. Bei der als „Massaker von
Nanking” bekannten Belagerung der Stadt wurden in
wenigen Wochen vermutlich bis zu 300.000 Chinesen
von den japanischen Truppen getötet. Ohne John
Rabes nun beginnenden Einsatz wären es vielleicht
noch einmal so viele geworden.
ERRICHTUNG DER ZIVILEN
SCHUTZZONE
Angesichts der Gräueltaten der Japaner gründeten
die wenigen in der Stadt verbliebenen Ausländer
ein Schutzkomitee, um der chinesischen
Bevölkerung zu helfen. An die Spitze des Komitees
wählten sie John Rabe. Ohne jede offizielle
Legitimation trotzte das Komitee den Japanern
eine zwei mal zwei Kilometer große Schutzzone
für Zivilisten in Nanking ab. Rabe nahm die
Schlüsselrolle bei den Verhandlungen ein, denn als
stellvertretender Ortsgruppenleiter der NSDAP in
Nanking wurde er von den verbündeten Japanern
als von Berlin unterstützte Autorität anerkannt.
Die Schutzzone ließ Rabe hinter seinem Wohnhaus
einrichten, die Hakenkreuzfahne kam erneut zum
Einsatz und wurde über dem Boden aufgespannt.
Selbst der japanische Kommandant respektierte
das Areal, das Rabe konsequent mit energischem
Auftreten verteidigte. Unentwegt brachten Rabe
und seine Helfer unter größter persönlicher Gefahr
so viele Menschen wie möglich in der Schutzzone
in Sicherheit. Bis zu 250.000 Menschen entgingen
so dem Tod.
LEBENSENDE IN ARMUT
Im Februar 1938 musste Rabe auf Anweisung
aus Deutschland in die Heimat zurückkehren. Als
er dort öffentlich auf das Massaker von Nanking
hinwies, wurde er von der Gestapo vorübergehend
festgenommen. Nach dem Ende des Zweiten
Weltkrieges wurde er erst im zweiten Anlauf
entnazifiziert, denn Rabe hatte sich öffentlich zur
NSDAP bekannt. Schließlich kam ihm aber sein
humanitärer Einsatz in China zugute. Ausgebombt,
verarmt und krank lebte er mit seiner Frau in einem
kleinen Zimmer in Berlin und war nun für Siemens
als Übersetzer tätig.
Am 5. Januar 1950 starb John Rabe an einem
Schlaganfall. Während in China über seinen Tod
berichtet wurde, war er in Deutschland kaum
bekannt gewesen. Erst nach der Veröffentlichung
seines Tagebuchs über das Massaker von Nanking
im Jahre 1996 wurde Rabe auch außerhalb
Chinas ein öffentliches Thema. Als der damalige
Bundespräsident Johannes Rau in 2003 an einer
Rabe-Büste in Nanking einen Kranz niederlegte,
wurde Rabe erstmals von deutscher Seite offiziell für
seinen Einsatz gewürdigt. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt stand
sein Grabstein bereits auf dem Ehrenfriedhof von
Nanking. Seine Enkelin schenkte ihn 1997 der Stadt,
die sich bis heute vor John Rabe verneigt. •

John Heinrich Detlef Rabe was a businessman
who was born in Hamburg in 1882. He worked
in Africa from 1903 to 1906 and then in China
from 1908. In 1931 he became CEO of the Siemens
office in the then Chinese capital of Nanjing. At
the end of 1937, it was finally time for him to say
goodbye. As a member of the Nazi party, Rabe
was to move to the Siemens head office in Berlin.
But the night before his planned departure everything
changed.
SWASTIKA FLAG AS A
PROTECTIVE SHIELD
The Japan-China War broke out in summer 1937.
After taking Shanghai following great loses of life,
the Imperial Japanese Army marched on China’s
then capital, Nanjing. The government and almost
all foreigners had already left the city; only a few
Americans, Brits and Germans remained, including
John Rabe.
Nanjing was besieged for several days. During Rabe’s
farewell party on the Siemens premises on the evening
of 12 December, Japanese aircraft started to bomb
the city. Rabe opened up the factory gates to offer
people protection on the company site. He
spread a swastika flag across the inner courtyard
and the Japanese planes turned away
due to their allegiance with Nazi Germany.
But the next day, Japan took Nanjing. During
the siege of the city, known as the ‘Massacre
of Nanjing’, up to 300,000 Chinese are
thought to have been killed by Japanese
troops in a matter of weeks. Without John Rabe’s involvement,
the figure could have been double that.
CREATION OF THE CIVILIAN
SAFETY ZONE
In view of the atrocities performed by the Japanese,
the few remaining foreigners in the city established a
protection committee to help the Chinese people and
elected John Rabe as its leader. Without any official
legitimation, the committee prohibited the Japanese
from entering a two by two kilometre safety zone
for civilians in Nanjing. Rabe took on the main role
during negotiations as he was recognised by the
Japanese as the authority backed by Berlin due to his
position as deputy group leader of the Nazi party in
Nanjing.
Rabe had the safety zone set up behind his home,
again using the swastika flag, which he laid on the
ground. Even the Japanese commander respected
the area that Rabe consistently defended with his energetic
presence. Rabe and his assistants incessantly
brought as many people as possible to safety in the
zone at great personal risk. Up to 250,000 people
thus escaped death.
END OF LIFE MARKED BY POVERTY
In February 1938, Rabe had to return home following
an instruction from Germany. On speaking out in
public about the Nanjing Massacre, he was temporarily
arrested by the Gestapo. After the end of the
Second World War, Rabe was finally de-Nazified on
his second attempt. The process was made difficult
because Rabe had openly been a member of the
Nazis but his humanitarian work in China eventually
worked in his favour. Bombed out, impoverished and
ill, he lived with his wife in a small room in Berlin and
worked as a translator for Siemens.
On 5 January 1950, John Rabe died of a stroke. While
reports of his death went out across China, hardly
anyone in Germany had ever heard of him. Only after
the publication of his diary about the Nanjing Massacre
in 1996 did Rabe become known by the public
outside China. When the then Federal President Johannes
Rau laid a wreath by a Rabe bust in Nanjing
in 2003, Rabe and his work were officially acknowledged
by the Germans for the first time. By then, his
tombstone had already been moved to a cemetery in
Nanjing. In 1997, his granddaughter gave this to the
city, which still bows to John Rabe even today. •
