« A spirit of optimism and
the economic revival – the 60s »
1960 - 1967
At that time, we implemented the first swap body system. It
was a roll-on system that allowed us to easily swap the swap
bodies. Back then, this system was ultramodern and set new
standards,” Löhr says.
Step by step, the company that had been founded ten years
ago further developed itself and arrived in the age of container
shipments in the mid 60s. From Rotterdam, Amsterdam and
Bremerhaven, 20’ and 40’ containers were shipped to New York
and Montreal.
1966 – The next generation
In 1966, the so-called “White House” – a former residential
building of the German Bundesbahn (German Federal Railway)
located near the first office building – was bought. This is where
the national, the import and the forwarding department have
been located since then. “After my time as a soldier for the German
armed forces, I entered into my father’s business in 1966
where I was responsible for truck scheduling at first. After some
time, I was also responsible for the expansion of international
business,” Hans-Wilhelm Löhr explains.
1967 – A second garage is built
In the end of the 60s, a second motor vehicle workshop was
built where office and order picking areas can still be found
today. Compared to the first one, this one had four work platforms
where the employees could repair vehicles. At that time,
the company’s fleet of vehicles had already grown to 35 tractor
units. The one-man business from 1951 has developed into a
company with more than 120 employees over the years.
1967
This decade was characterized by economic
growth throughout the whole
country. While looking at the photos
of that time together with Hans-Wilhelm
Löhr, the shareholder of LB GmbH clearly
remembers the formative events of that time. “At
that time, internationalization was already a big
issue even though you cannot compare the situation
with today. In those days, it was a real adventure
when a truck rode to France,” Hans-Wilhelm
Löhr laughs.
1961 – A company grows
In the beginning of the 60s, the first garage with
a work platform was built for the first vehicles. “It
really was a small workshop,” Hans-Wilhelm Löhr
remembers, “and it still exists today. However, the
small building is now used as a parking area for
the bikes of our employees – which best describes
its size.
