Nicht erst seit Benedict Staben im April 2016 sein erstes Turnier auf der Pro
Golf Tour gewonnen hat wird ihm zugetraut, in die internationale Top-Riege der
Profigolfer aufzusteigen. In „Golfregion Hamburg“ erzählt das Ausnahmetalent,
welcher Schläger der wichtigste für einen guten Score ist, was man auf der
Runde bedenkenlos essen kann und er verrät, welche seine Lieblingsplätze in
Hamburg sind.

as a professional golfer long before he won his first tournament on the Pro Golf
Tour in April 2016. Here, the Hamburg native reveals his must-have clubs, what
he snacks on to keep going on the green and the city’s must-visit courses.

Welche Schläger spielen Sie derzeit?
Seit 2016 spiele ich Callaway. Die Hölzer
sind aus der Big Bertha Alpha 816 und
meine Eisen aus der Apex MB Pro Serie.
Mein Putter ist von Odyssey.
Können Sie sich noch an Ihr erstes Set
erinnern?
Mein erster Satz war ein US Kids Golf.
Er war ein Geschenk meiner Großmutter
zu meinem achten Geburtstag. Ich habe
ihn gleich in meinem damaligen Heimatclub,
dem Hamburger LGC Hittfeld, auf
dem 17. Loch ausprobiert. Ich glaube,
dass ich die Schläger nachts auch mit ins
Bett genommen habe.
Haben Sie im Hamburger Land- und
Golf-Club Hittfeld eine Lieblingsbahn?
Die 17. Sieben Jahre, nachdem ich meine
ersten eigenen Schläger ausprobiert
habe, durfte ich nach einem Umbau den
neuen Platz mit dem „Goldenen Ball“
eröffnen – ebenfalls auf dem 17. Loch,
What drew you to golfing and to go
pro?
The game never gets boring – there’s
a new challenge every day. Playing a
good round and walking confidently
across the course is the best feeling.
Which clubs are you currently using?
Recently, I've started playing only with
Callaway clubs. My woods are from the
Big Bertha Alpha 816 and my irons are
from the Apex MB Pro series. I use an
Odyssey putter.
Can you remember your first set of
clubs?
My first set was a US Kids Golf set: it
was a gift from my grandmother for
my eighth birthday. I went straight to
my local club at the time, Hamburger
LGC Hittfeld, and tried it out on the
17th hole. I think I even slept next to
the clubs that night.
Do you have a favourite hole at the
Hamburg Hittfeld Golf and Country
Club?
The 17th. I was able to open the newly
renovated course with the “golden
ball” seven years after I tried out my
first clubs – that was at the 17th hole,
a par-four with a fantastic view. Two
hundred people watched as I hit the ball

spezieller Moment!
Welche Golfplätze in der Golfregion Hamburg gefallen Ihnen
besonders gut?
Meine fünf Lieblingsplätze sind der Hamburger Golfclub Falkenstein,
der Golfclub Hamburg Walddörfer, der Gut Kaden
Golf und Land Club sowie der Golf & Country Club Gut Bissenmoor.
Und mein erster Heimatclub, der Hamburger Landund
Golf-Club Hittfeld natürlich.
Was ist für das Ergebnis einer Golfrunde wichtiger: gut am
Abschlag oder gut auf dem Grün zu sein?
In Hamburg muss man gut vom Tee sein – sonst lässt man zu
viele Schläge im Wald liegen. Aber generell ist ein guter Putter
das Wichtigste.

Which courses in the Hamburg region do you like the best?
My five favourite courses are the Hamburger Falkenstein Golf
Club, the Hamburg Walddörfer Golf Club, the Gut Kaden
Golf and Country Club, the Gut Bissenmoor Golf & Country
Club and – I can’t forget my first-ever home club – the Hamburg
Hittfeld Golf and Country Club.
What is more important for a good round: the tee off or putting
well on the green?
In Hamburg, you have to be good at the tee; otherwise, you’ll
lose too many balls in the woods. But, generally, a good putter
is the most important thing.
Any tips for loosening up at the first tee?
Getting worked up is part of the game. Every professional golfer
is nervous at tournaments. I always try to concentrate on
