Neues Spritzgießwerkzeug für die Messung von Entformungskräften
New injection mold for the measurement of demolding forces
Mikrostrukturierte Kunststoff-Bauteile, die im Spritzgussverfahren
hergestellt werden, finden immer häufiger Verwendung,
insbesondere in der Medizintechnik bzw. in
den sogenannten „Life Sciences“.
Regeln für das Entformungsverhalten aufgestellt werden;
Microstructured injection molded plastic parts find more
and more applications, especially in medical engineering
and life sciences. During the production of these
precision parts, several challenges have to be tackled from the
complete filling of the micro-channels to the demolding step,
which in many cases can be the deciding factor, if a part can be
produced without errors or not.
The demolding step is influenced by a complex interaction of different
influencing parameters. In the framework of a cooperation
with STRATEC Biomedical AG (former Sony DADC BioSciences
GmbH) in Salzburg a new instrumented injection mold was developed
at the Chair of Polymer Processing, which enables the systematic
investigation of these influencing factors under real process
conditions as well as a quantitative evaluation. With this
mold fundamental research on the demolding behavior was performed.
Four key parameters, which influence the demolding step,
were systematically investigated: the polymer, the design of the
microstructures, the mold as well as the injection molding process.
The investigations showed clearly that due to the complex interrelation
and interaction each constellation of polymer -
structure - mold - process has to be examined individually. All
the more it is important to have the possibility to obtain information
on the demolding behavior of a planned product with
an acceptable measurement effort. With the presented mold it
is possible to quantitatively determine the relation between the
different influencing factors.
Potential applications for this process near measurement system
are for example the targeted improvement of the demolding
properties of polymers, the investigation of the effect of additives
for an improved demolding step, the development of dehesive
mold coatings, improvement of product design or optimization
of micro- and nano-structures.
