Über den Red Dot Design Award
Um die Vielfalt im Bereich Design
fachgerecht bewerten zu können,
unterteilt sich der Red Dot Design
Award in die drei Disziplinen Red
Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot
Award: Communication Design und
Red Dot Award: Design Concept. Der
Red Dot Award wird vom Design
Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen organisiert
und ist einer der größten
Design-Wettbewerbe der Welt. 2015
feierte er sein 60-jähriges Jubiläum.
Established seal of quality with a guarantee of success
Manufacturers and designers from
54 nations have once more submitted their
latest product innovations for 2017. They
provided a lot of work for 39 experts from
all over the world – independent designers,
design professors and specialist journalists
– because a record number of over
5,500 products had to be closely examined.
The experts appointed to the jury
spent many long days on site in Essen
looking at each individual product – in
order that they could finally award the
Red Dot for high design quality and innovation.
Only those designs which displayed
excellent design quality receive the
coveted award.
The sustainability aspect of the »biobrush«
toothbrush caught the jury’s particular
attention: the plastic and packaging are
based on cellulose made from wood residues
from sustainable forestry. The dyes
and plastic are biologically degradable, and
the packaging can even be composted as
garden waste – for which reason the »biobrush«
was honoured with the Red Dot:
Best of the Best award.
They have been long established as industrial
robots, and now they are conquering
further product worlds: lawn mowing,
window cleaning or vacuum cleaning for
example; intelligent aids already play an
active role in many households. A new
approach, for example, is provided by the
PuduBOT, Red Dot: Best of the Best
winner in 2017 in the »Robot Technology«
category. It was created to assist waiters
in restaurants. PuduBOT brings
orders to the guest by means of high-precision
laser radar technology, and can even
interact using facial expressions and voice.
The award ceremony took place at the
beginning of July. The winners of the
highest award, the »Red Dot: Best of the
Best«, including Audi, Kartell, Artemide,
Hansgrohe, Bora, Electrolux, LG, Canyon
Bicycles, Philips, Puma, Niessing,
Apple and Bose were honoured at the Red
Dot Gala in the Aalto Theatre in Essen.
